"Fideo and borracho beans with cilantro and pork belly simmering on the stove, the spicy warmth of menudo every Christmas and New Year’s, egg salad with a fried egg between a butter toasted bolillo, and puffy tacos stuffed with lengua carnitas and crushed avocado and doused with pequin chile vinegar salsa. These are just some of the dishes that have inspired me – the food that I was nurtured with by the women who raised me. Bar Amá is my interpretation of their Tex-Mex." – Chef Josef Centeno

The food was amazing! I’m not a fan of spicy food, but I was told their food is more TexMex style… and that’s very true! Drinks and food had a smokey taste opposed to hot spicy. I had the green enchiladas and mezcal margaritas. Yum! Everything had great flavor! Drinks were a little expensive, but I think that’s normal for DTLA. Overall loved it! Will definitely go back soon!
all around wonderful...! great drinks and queso fundido is a classic
Food was great, drinks were just okay. Service was almost over attentive the host refilled our water almost every 5 mins
Not what it used to be.
The food was exceptional and there were even some favorite dishes from the shuttered Baco Mercat that we remembered and enjoyed. We'll be going again very soon.
The food was absolutely amazing!! Unlike any Tex mex I’ve ever had. Compliments to all the chefs and staff 👏
It was great as always. Loving the patio in the alley vibe. I really hope that can continue after Covid restrictions are up.
Food was delicious! The pitcher of margaritas was easily shared between 4 people. Food was brought out quickly and the waiters were so kind and attentive. Would definitely come back for another girl’s night!
We had hoped our experience at Bar AMA would be a good one but we were pleasantly surprised with an outstanding experience. The food was exceptional! We had the queso and steak and chicken puffy tacos. We also tried the fish tacos which were great with a request to substitute the flour tortillas with the puffy tortillas for which Chef Josef Centeno is well known for. We also had the opportunity to meet Chef Josef and what a wonderful and kind person! Overall would definitely recommend and cannot wait to return!
Over priced for the quality of food.
Staff was awesome
Food is always delicious and creative. So fresh. Drinks are incredible
I always want to like Bar AMA, but the food consistently underwhelms. The mushroom birria in particular was very disappointing.
Outside dining only at this time.
Very tasty take on Mexican food. Favorite dishes were the queso and the ceviche, which was outstanding.
They are taking Covid seriously, which is appreciated.
Best to order tequila or Mezcal vs the cocktails.
THE best! Food was as delicious as I remembered. Great experience. Thank you!!!!
We went for happy hour. We ordered amá margaritas, nachos, guac, and tacos dorados. I really loved the guac and the chips. The chips are so good! The nachos were good. Honestly I enjoyed everything. No complaints. The outdoor seating area is super cute and cozy. You have so much space to socially distance but also to have an intimate conversation. It is very hard to find parking though. I ended up getting a parking ticket ($63) bc I didn't get to my meter in time to renew it. There is a parking lot for $10 a couple blocks before the restaurant on 4th that I should've parked at haha. Oops. But I liked this place and I'm happy I tried it.
Loved this for my first post lockdown dinner. Great staff, food and atmosphere.
While the food has remained consistent, the have removed some of the best menu items and the service is very poor.
Amazing food and a super cute outdoor seating area!
Lovely restaurant. Delicious food. The drinks are diluted.
No good for the price, we order margarita pitcher and you can taste the cheap tequila on it.
Great food but a little bit pricey considering the ambiance. Didn’t like plastic glasses for a wine...
A casual relaxed atmosphere with extremely friendly and professional service.
Food and drink by Josef Centeno is always full of wonderful surprise.
Excellent food and friendly staff! I loved the fresh guac and the sweet potato tacos.
still tasty food (1/2 spicy chicken excellent). But can't get over terrible service (eg, asked for wine with dinner, server came out to tables 8 times thereafter and never made eye contact, never brought wine). With guaranteed 18% tip, perhaps servers not motivated to be observant. And the whole plastic cup for $13 cocktails is just frustrating.
Maybe experience will be better when they move back indoors?
Service was great and the patio they set up in the adjacent alley way was super cute! Really appreciated all the Covid-safety measures they had in place. Drinks and food were delicious as always (love that the nachos and some baco Mercat items were available to order too!)!!
Bar Ama continues to provide delicious food and excellent service despite the restrictions necessary for safety during COVID-19
Nice to enjoy the extraordinary flavor profiles that chef produces. Service shined and we enjoyed a lovely evening.
One of my Favorite places in Los Angeles. The queso is incredible.
Could use more heaters considering it gets so cold at night
Always the best food at this chef’s restaurants. Went for the Bside baco menu and am so glad to have the Crudo back in my life. It’s been too long, crudo! Service is always warm lovely and attentive. Food delicious, wine superb. Covid safety measures in full effect. This is the only place I’m staying to eat at right now. Do wrap up to dine in on the patio until it gets a little springier tho.
Did an amazing job of creating a rad ambience in the alley. We had a lovely time
Bar Ama is one of my favorite spots DTLA. This time wasn’t the usual quality/vibe but I completely understand and appreciate that they are open and making it happen- given the circumstances. I will be back!
Always a great place for date night or just a casual dinner. Food and drinks are amazing! Also they have queso !
It was excellent as always! And we all felt very safe.
Had a wonderful evening. Food was amazing but drinks a little pricy. Oerall an A+ and will definately be going back soon.
I enjoyed the ambiance of the lights and outdoor vibe. The food was incredible and the servers were friendly.
We love Bar Ama! Food and service is great, outdoor arrangements are very good with good distancing between other guests. It's always been a little pricey.
Great as always! Thank you!
