"Fideo and borracho beans with cilantro and pork belly simmering on the stove, the spicy warmth of menudo every Christmas and New Year’s, egg salad with a fried egg between a butter toasted bolillo, and puffy tacos stuffed with lengua carnitas and crushed avocado and doused with pequin chile vinegar salsa. These are just some of the dishes that have inspired me – the food that I was nurtured with by the women who raised me. Bar Amá is my interpretation of their Tex-Mex." – Chef Josef Centeno

Very slow service and not the most friendly or accommodating server. The food made up for it because it was delicious!
The food was delicious - great combination of unexpected ingredients to create wonderful tex mex. Service was friendly and attentive. It's a busy place, make sure to make a reservation.
The shrimp was to die for. Quest fundito was perfect, drinks and service great. We came for a birthday of 10 people . The staff was very accommodating when we had to add 2 more people last minute
The restaurant itself is very nice inside. Hip vibe. Food is pretty as plated. Taste was good. Table guacamole was delicious.
Unfortunately, the waitress was a total pill. She had a sour face the entire time and looked like she would rather be anywhere else than where she was. Considering we were celebrating a co-worker's birthday, she did nothing to add to the celebration and basically did the bare minimum in taking our orders and handling our table. That alone made me not want to return. I may give it one more try in case she was having a bad day, but honestly, I'm not in a hurry to go back.
First time. I enjoyed it. The menu isn’t intuitive and I wasn’t sure what i was getting, but the food was good. And the servers were on top of everything. Good stuff.
Rich, Vibrant flavors – some of the best Tex Mex food I’ve ever had. The queso dip with chorizo is outstanding, even though we did have to have it warmed up a bit when the first offering was delivered lukewarm. Mom’s green enchiladas were delicious, with amazing and deep smoky, spicy and cheesy flavors. It’s always a little crowded and loud inside, but the food is absolutely worth it.
It was all good but a little annoyed by not being seating at the table so we could order drinks before our husbands found parking (we over shot valet and then they got stuck on 1-way streets and street closures due to filming). And then once seated, being told we need to vacate by 9:00pm
No WiFi, slow service. But overall a nice place with good food.
Was quite enjoyable for the first time.
This restaurant was really nice. Loved the music and the vibes. Waitress new her stuff and recommended a lot of good options it was my first time there and for sure I’ll be recommending people to stop by
The guac was amazing! Loved my enchiladas! I do think the food was a little pricey though.
Date before an evening event. Servers were friendly. Decor is trendy industrial inside with hip hop, pop and r and b playing at an energetic level but you can still have a conversation. Cocktails are good and pack a punch.
I had the sweet potatoes tamales which were a little dry and not that flavourful but still pleasant. Also, shared an enchilada with my dining partner which was delicious.
Would recommend for a casual date or food with friends.
Always amazing delicious unique and yummy
Great food, drinks & service. Lots of close parking.
Good creative take on Mexican food and good execution in a comfortable setting and good service too..
Very attentive staff, food came out fast. Very tasty. Guacamole was delicious. I got the chicken mole enchiladas which was amazing with the bus driver hot sauce.
Great food! 👌🏻
What a weird city LA is. Two days before Christmas in any other city and the place would be hopping. As it was we practically had the place to ourselves, could chat without shouting, loved the food, were waited on attentively, all of which made for a lovely evening. The peel and eat shrimp was sumptuous
This is an excellent restaurant., I wish I'd made it to the reservation time, but I was late, so we just bellied up to the bar and called it good.
Always love coming here!!
Still a great little spot downtown with great food and a friendly wait staff.
Bar Ama is one of my favorite restaurants and Sunday night was no exception. The generous waitstaff refilled our chips bowls at every request and were patient and kind despite the grumpy 16 year old who joined us. I need to go back with an extra tip for our server, Evelyn (I believe), as I realized when leaving that my stepfather-in-law tipped an embarrassing amount less than we agreed : /
Absolutely wonderful meal—every dish was delicious. Some of the best Mexican Food I’ve had in a long time!!!
Ordered several vegetarian dishes and each one was unique in it’s own right and extremely tasty! Hands-down best guac in town. If we lived closer to DTLA Bar Ama would be an addiction.
Food was spectacular and the wait staff polite and very efficient
Bar Ama has really good food. The place is energetic, which is cool; however, since we don’t live in NYC, I don’t live sitting right next to someone else. I mean, right next to someone else. It’s just a small space, so be mindful of that. With that said, if your focus is good food and drinks, you will get it here!
The food at bar ama is amazing. It’s elevated Mexican food with plenty of vegan options, a great cocktail menu and fun ambiance. It’s one of my favorite restaurants!!
Excellent server and receptionist!!
We had originally planned a birthday lunch for 6 by reserving Tartine Bianco DTLA a month ago. Less than 24 hours before then, they called and cancelled our reservation because they decided to convert to a pizzeria !?!? Luckily Bar Ama had an opening so we were able to have our DTLA birthday lunch as planned. The treatment we got from them was wonderful especially in light of the poor treatment we got from that other place. Food is creative and delicious and service is impeccable. It more than made up for the bad experience we had with Tartine Bianco.
All four people at our table enjoyed every plate. The Ranchero chicken was perfectly spiced and the and Carne Guisada was excellent. We also had the brussel sprouts and cauliflower sides and they were amazing. All the flavors were different and they all fit perfectly together. Oh and the quesadilla with pork and a hint of pineapple was my favorite. The added bonus was that we all could hear each other. It was packed but the acoustics were great. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes.
Very lively on a Saturday night. Place was packed. The server made an excellent tequila recommendation. All the food was fantastic. Plates large enough to share. Definitely would go back.
Absolutely loved the food. The server knew how to accommodate our gluten allergy and dairy free requests. Will be coming back soon!
