Two friends and I celebrated Thanksgiving with a delicious dinner at Bar a Vin 1855. One friend was celebrating her first Thanksgiving in the U.S. We each ordered turkey (the alternative was ham), as well as three sides (out of five to choose from) and a piece of pie with whipped cream (out of three to choose from). The portions were substantial without being excessive. The service was excellent. It was our first time at this restaurant, and I am sure we will be returning. I highly recommend it.
The wine pairing was interesting. Glad we ordered the pairing with the tasting menu.
Not much wine on the menu and the service was pretty bad. Wouldn’t come back.
Excellent food, professional waitstaff and nice ambiance!
If you can't travel to France anytime soon -- go here for dinner instead. The food is authentic with gorgeous small plates and an elegant Charcuterie to share. The wine list is amazing. It was a lovely and perfect birthday dinner with friends.
Everything was great, including the service. Only disappointment was menu description of pork belly as pork roast. Big difference, acknowledged by management after the fact
good food, service (in terms of timing and knowledge) was a bit uneven and not what i would expect for the price.
Awesome service and interior is gorgeous!
This is a hidden gem in Back Bay. One of the best wine lists with lots of options!
Lovely spot but very poor service. Went for brunch and got there before it became crowded. Our order was taken but never “put in”.
We were fine as we weren’t in a rush. Then the order came and it was only half of what we ordered. Waited again and still wasn’t right. Very frustrating.
We were told my mimosa would be comped and it wasn’t. But paid and left as we were so done by that point.
Hello Kelli, We appreciate your honesty, and we are so sorry that you had a very frustrating experience. We are doing our best to improve our service and food, and we would love to welcome you again in the future. We will take care of you and make sure these mistakes never happen again. - The Bar à vin 1855 team
Lovely brunch experience. Omelets with toasted bread delicious. Very elegant though not at all pretentious. Definitely go back.
Bonjour! We are so honored that you enjoyed our new brunch experience with us. We hope to see you again soon! - The Bar á vin 1855 team
Very atmospheric French bistro. Tasty food but small portions.
Very mediocre Food which was supposedly Contemporary French cuisine. Didn’t resemble any French food I’ve had in Paris. Was only fair, in my opinion. Service was good.
Hello, We are sorry our menu was not to your liking. We are changing our menu biweekly in order to propose fresh and original recipes for our customers. We would like to welcome you back in the future, so you can have a new taste of our latest menu. - The Bar à vin 1855 team
Great spot for people watching. Outdoor seating. Service was terrific! Food is wonderful and the wine selection as you might imagine is extensive and well priced.
We had a wonderful dinner out at Bar á vin 1855 - we ate from the tasting menu, and each item was flavorful and well-prepared. We also appreciated the friendly and knowledgeable service.
Hello, Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you were happy with the tasting menu, as well as our staff! We would love to have you again in the future. - The Bar à vin 1855 team
Went for an early weekend brunch (10:15 am reservation), at which time Newbury St is not so busy. Food was very good, and staff were excellent. Outside seating is comfortable and portions were responsible. Clearly popular as there was quickly a line and we were being encouraged not to linger over our coffee. Otherwise very nice, and we'd come again.
The service at Bar à Vin 1855 is always very thoughtful and the brunch (our first time there other than dinner or aperitifs) was delicious, with a manageably sized menu both of both food and cocktails.
What an amazing experience!! We were treated in the beautiful al fresco area and it felt like Europe. Jarret was an amazing waiter!! He guided us through the menu and we had such great conversations with him. Each dish that came out was so beautifully presented and every morsel was simply heaven. You can tell Chef Rizvi is incredibly passionate about the local produce and you can see his passion in cooking in each dish. The smokiness in the beef tartare was so delicate and divine. You know a chef is talented when your emotions get hightened with each morsel of food tasted. It was an honor to be able to meet chef and speak to him about his lineage and his passion about food and cooking. I can’t wait to come back and try his handmade gnocchi with truffles again and all the other dishes that he will create in the future.
We have been to this restaurant pre covid and the quality of food and waitstaff was much higher, will probably not be returning
Excellent outdoor seating in a lively area in the heart of Boston's Back Bay.
The quality of the main course on the price fixe menu was not great. The steak was 1/2 fat and gristle.
We had an opportunity to eat using outside seating on a day when Newbury street was closed to all the traffic. We had a tasting menu, which provided plenty of food. Service was excellent. Wine sommelier was very helpful, providing us with very good wine with an excellent value. Food was great, prepared in the traditional French style. We had an excellent dining experience. Will definitely come back.
A great experience all around. Very much a French bistro experience even right out on Newberry Street. Fantastic wine selection (both by the bottle & glass) with very approachable prices. Wonderful service and delicious dining. Very glad we gave it a try and would definitely return.
We had a FABULOUS evening at Bar a Vin. We were a group of 5 and we all got the tasting menu. Each course was exquisitely prepared and both looked and tasted divine. The sommelier brought wine after wine that went perfectly with each course, and even brought us each some champagne at the end as an extra touch. We also had one member of our party who was gluten free, and they easily accommodated her diet concerns. The outside patio offered a perfect dining spot. SO happy we found this place.
Wonderful place, thoughtful and knowledgable staff, delicious wine and food.
Very nice! Great service.
Had a wonderful outdoor table that felt like we'd been transported to Paris. The service was awesome as was the food. The Burrata salad and Steak Tartare were excellent.
Food was delicious. Especially the burrata. Server not so great. Had a definite attitude but warmed up slightly when he learned we are from Back Bay.
What a great little hidden gem. Chef Ozzy Rizvi has worked under Michelin royalty like Chef Thomas Keller and the composition of each dish reflects the artistry of a true talent. In the few dishes missing the slightest mark on execution were quickly recovered by the very attentive and thorough sommelier providing us wine pairings with each dish of the chefs tasting. Overall it was a spectacular night and we will definitely return.
Outstanding food and very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. Wine pairings were really well done. We’ll definitely be back!
Manager Matthieu and Chef Ozzy are a great partnership! Food tasted delicious, looked beautiful and paired with the perfect wine. Highly recommend!
One of the best meals that we’ve had in years. Champignons and eggplant appetizers were amazing. We chose the cheapest bottle of Burgundy red, and it was fantastic. Service also outstanding.
Good quality of the food but portion sizes were really very small. Very slow service which will be probably be improved. Not adapted if you are hungry.
Food is phenomenal. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. We will be back.
We love this place. It’s a small an cozy restaurant. Good service and great wine list.
The food was good but however the portion was very small. I hope they could adjust the portion or the price in the future but over all we had a great time and we will return soon!
The manager was knowledgeable and a great host. Merci beaucoup.
Excellent food and ambiance. The restaurant is a bit small so make sure you have a reservation, but that makes the setting a bit more private / cozy

We came for Boston Dine Out-had never been. It was AMAZING! Service was so attentive but not intrusive. Could actually have a nice quiet conversation as music and others diners at modest level. Their choices for Dine Out were delicious. Will most surely return.

This French restaurant is a new take on some French classics and they are pretty tasty. We enjoyed our meals and cocktails here. The dishes are very flavorful and perfectly executed. The service was great and friendly. Price point was fair for Newbury Street venue. The atmosphere was perfect for 7s since it was Sunday night. We would definitely go back there again.

The wine list is extensive, as you would expect, with a great selection of wines by the glass in addition to wines by the bottle. We shared the carpaccio and mussel appetizers which were quite good. The lamb chops were flavorful but a little more done than the requested medium. The butter poached was also flavorful and mostly tender but the tips of the claws were a bit hard and chewy. Service was attentive and friendly. We would return for the wines and the appetizers.
