Baptist Grill at L’oscar London
The Baptist Grill is already set to become a great London destination. Synonymous with food created with a flourish, it will bring lightness and creativity to the traditional grill, with a classic table-side Gueridon service that promises to bring a sense of the theatre to this remarkable dining room
I was one in a group of 4 that went on a Saturday night. From the moment we walked in, we had a fabulous experience at The Baptist Grill. We were 20 mins early, so we started with a drink at the downstairs bar and were then escorted upstairs to the beautiful dining room. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is relaxed. It was quiet in the restaurant but not awkward - the chatter from the bar up through the atrium gave it a nice background hubbub and the background music was well chosen. We had the pre-theatre menu which is great value and I would thoroughly recommend it - there is a choice of 3 dishes for each course. Each dish was seemingly simple but was transformed into an absolutely delicious, delicate but rich, beautifully presented course. With a couple of chef's treats provided in between, we were pleased that we shared 2 desserts, as we were happily full by teh end. The only warning is that the wine prices start at over £40 a bottle which takes the edge off the value but now I know, I would definitely go again for a special occassion.
From the moment the doors opened, you knew it was going to be a great night. Such an amazing welcome by all the staff. The wow factor of the building to the decor and then lead through the building to your seats upstairs. The food was amazing and great tentative, yet friendly and open service. The team are always happy to stop and expline to you about the wines, food and history of the building. Great night and a lovely place to dine all night. Then drop down stairs to the Bar afterward.
The food was original and couldnt fault it. Very friendly staff. Elegant surroundings and quite beautiful with alot of comfort and space. Spot on. Timings of courses very good too.
All aspects of the experience were fine, but just not up to the level of polish one would expect considering the price.
Food excellent, shame after the main course arrived the service was non existent. As an example we poured our own wine, topped up our water once we got our main where previously the waitress topped it up. We had to ask for more wine later in the meal also.
Last point, the main menu cheese board dessert needs more crackers or bread. We have about 10 crackers between 4.
We thoroughly enjoyed lunch at the Baptist Grill - we had a mixture of a la carte and set menu, all 5 members of the group loved the food, ambience and service.
Great surroundings, excellent menu and great service!
Food was mostly pretty but parts were tepid to quite cool, as though the kitchen had struggled to get every component ready at the same time. This spoilt the dishes, unfortunately. Some aspects were fantastic! Timing of service was rather amiss (we were served bread towards the end of the starter). Decor lovely. Maybe a bit of style over substance?
I visited the Baptist Grill Second time The Christmas lunch was fantastic.
Wonderful from the moment you step through the door. Very chic and grand and loved the Baptist Grill. Staff are attentive and clearly love working here, which always helps. I do not return to many places, as there is so much choice in London, but this is one I would certainly add to the list and is an elegant find
This is one of the best restaurants we have been to for a long time.
Everything about it was excellent, the food quality the principal highlight.
The setting is very unusual and great fun. We did not have time to use the bar but when we go again we will make sure we go early for an aperitif.
We visited L’Oscar to host our Global Client Services and Hospitality client (no pressure) for Christmas lunch. From the moment we were great off the street by the doorman and through to restaurant and to the table the service was spot on. Great decadent decor and an intimate layout but with nicely spaced tables (and clearly lots of history to draw the eye). The service and attention to detail was fantastic, our client picked up on the British tableware - a nice touch. As you would expect from a Tony Fleming kitchen, the food was amazing and a menu which appealed to all. Drinks at the bar followed and again a really nice atmosphere and layout with good selection. Great start to a new establishment, expect 5 stars across the board once bedded in more. Will be back!
Unusual place, we loved the ambiance. But very expensive! Wines are also dear and they added a 20% service charge to the meal(and everything else - we stayed in the hotel (650 a night) and 20% service charge was added to bar bill, room service and breakfast.) Beware, for very special occasions only.
We opted for the festive set menu and everything was utterly sublime. Sadly, the restaurant was not busy when we went, however, the acoustics mean that we could hear every word from the table on the other side of the restaurant. If the restaurant were full and the lower bar open, I imagine it would be very noisy indeed. We did need to bring to the attention of the waiter that the amuse bouche needed a health warning: I imagine it had been microwaved and I burnt both my tongue and fingers on the near-molten cheese. That aside, the food and service were amazing and the venue is jawdroppingly beautiful, so highly recommended.
This consciously designed venue works well in the winter months. The dark rooms, backlit alabaster bar and low lighting all conspire to offer refuge from the cold. Service is attentive and mostly appreciated (apart from the over zealous topping up of the wine leaving an empty bottle before the starter had arrived).
Cocktails are an inventive treat and a perfect preamble to the restaurant.
The food was rich, well prepared and full of flavour, the only gripe being that it was delivered tepid. It seems that the kitchen is a little way from the dining room. What a shame. They did offer to recook the dishes for us but we didn’t want to wait as we were already eating late.
We really enjoyed the food and the experience so I do hope they are able to resolve this issue.
An amazing menu, appropriately seasonal, served in elegant surroundings with a well chosen wine list. One of the finest eateries that I've experienced in London
Amazing place, good atmosphere and service .
I’ll definitely come back.
My boss (ChrisA) brought me here for lunch and we were both impressed with the venue, food and service - all superb. I will definitely be going back!
Fabulous food. The stand out dishes were the coronation crab and curried shepherd's pie. The building itself is beautiful and is a perfect match for the service and the food. The whole things comes together to make a fabulous treat.
The food was first class with very imaginative touches. A hot blackcurrant souffle for pudding was perfection and a souffle is always the supreme test for a kitchen! Service was attentive and the surroundings atmospheric. A wonderful restaurant for a special occasion.
Had a dinner booked for my birthday - a very special place, would love to go back!
From the moment we stepped into L’oscar, we couldn’t fault it. The service, the decor, the atmosphere, the food, the wine - all fabulous. The attention to detail is second to none. You will not be disappointed. The restaurant manager is Mariano Bianchino - he’s clearly doing something right. We’ll be back - soon.
We visited the Baptist Grill at L’Oscar on a recent trip down to London. What can I say, from the moment we walked through the door from the moment we left the service from all members of staff was outstanding. The hotel and setting is beautiful, very grand but not pretentious. The restaurant was exceptional, everything was perfect, from the service to the food. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to and I will 100% be returning again. 5 stars!
The Baptist is an incredible restaurant and bar, unfortunately I had an upset stomach after eating there. However, the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is very opulent.
Great value and quality food. The room is stunning and the server was very knowledgeable on the history of the room. Look forward to going again
A beautiful place, excellent service, a great experience.
Stunning venue and excellent service! Had a birthday meal and drinks with my husband. Perfect place for a romantic night out
strange place; almost empty on saturday night. food was mostly good, and prices very fair, but there was zero atmosphere. building is very impressive, but the decor is like a mayfair hotel trying to appeal to russian/middle eastern money. can't say I'd recommend it.
Perfect evening! Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Excellent service, brilliant recommendations. Extensive, well thought wine menu, with perfect reccomendation for meal. Perfectly crafted food with thoughtful pairings. Beautiful setting, decor and surroundings. Great live music with incredible acoustics. Can’t fault our experience at all!
I feel lucky to have caught this one on the up. Everything was excellent from start to finish. Beautiful environment, chilled ambience, deliciously sophisticated food.
I hope that I can get back in when it becomes busy & celebrated.
It was our anniversary and we visited for cocktails and dinner in Baptiste. There was music in the bar which was a nice surprise and the bar team were very helpful and accommodating.
Dinner, the sommelier was amazing and helped us choose wines which complimented each course perfectly. The food was great the waiting staff were slightly too laid back and didn’t make any recommendations so missed a trick in our opinion and especially when they have only been open for s few weeks. Overall though a lovely evening and would recommend a visit.
Awesome ambience and food
10/10 ambience. 10/10 service.
Faultless dinner. Treated like royalty and pictures cannot show how amazing this place is. A must go :)
Food was incredible. Service outstanding. Prices at the top end of the market but not unaffordable if for a special occasion
Wonderful evening at this newly opened restaurant. Fantastic service and food. A really special night!
Went to the opening day at the Baptist Grill for lunch and was really impressed. The food and service were excellent - I will definitely be going back.
