BaoziInn - Romilly Street
Baozilnn -人民公社, meaning “people’s canteen” has been brought to you by Barshu group, which, twelve years ago, caused a sensation on the London restaurant scene by opening Barshu Restaurant.
Food used to be authentic and good value for money. Now the food isn't authentic and it's way overpriced! For example, inauthentic fried rice (people complaining about why it had chili powder on it) that was a small bowl for over £11!! Reminded me of Chinese tapas - small portions, huge pricetag. I won't be going back. :(
Apart from not confirming our attendance with Open Table, we didn’t have to wait more than a few minutes to be seated upstairs, We had a window table with a great view of Bar Shu on the corner of Frith St and Romilly St. which had a Chinese red lantern in every window! Our waitress was attentive, although our last dish did not arrive. We understood, as it was Chinese New Year, the kitchen was very, very busy, and we had already enjoyed Dim Sum and Salt & Pepper Squid. All in all, a great experience.
Excellent as always and our friends loved it as well.
Great location, service and food. But it’s very expensive for what it is.
I have come a couple of times and decided to booked it for my birthday dinner, they were all wonderful, even though I hadn't told them it was my birthday (as I don't like the fuss) they realised it was a birthday and brought us out some buns with a candle in! Incredibly thoughtful! I don't live int London but always make a stop to Baozi Inn for dim sum when I am over and I have never been let down. Great quality food and service!
Extremely delicious dim sum and amazing Chinese dishes! There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options - the fried oyster mushrooms and mapo tofu were a particular highlight. Really quick service too - ideal for a pre-theatre dinner. I'll definitely be back again.
Slow but pleasant service. Flavours a little bland. Seating uncomfortable.
The food was really good but the menus could have more detail to help understand what you are ordering. Sadly the staff were not really helpful. They even got one order completely wrong bringing 2 non veg meals when one should have been veg.
Excellent service and food. Very good value for central London
Great food and service
Food was not very good plenty of garlic to cover any flavour. Very expensive and the wine was really poor quality too. Overrated place.
I have no idea about Chinese food generally even though I have travelled through China. But I enjoyed the experience of meeting a friend in Baozilnn, the staff were extremeply pleasant and helpful and the food was good, the price "normal" for central london, the menu was clear and advice on what to order hellpful.
Despite an amazing menu and great food quality this place deserves a poor rating due to the horrible service...
Interesting range of dim sum. Reasonably prized. Helpful staff. Benches rather narrow and menus need a wipe/clean/replace.
The restaurant was not what I had expected. I had booked online. However, this was a good thing. The restaurant was lovely. The service was excellent and the food was really lovely. We were surprised the rice appeared first but then shortly after all the other plates of food appeared. It was a bit like Chinese tapas.
Overall the food was delicious and we would definitely return.
We focused on the dim sum options and were very pleased with our choices. The food was vibrant and presented nicely. It’s a small place but one would think it large for the quality of food. When in London, we will seek it out again.
The food is just stunning. A lovely spot.
Great restaurant, went for a quick lunch and such delicious food and many options. Highly recommend.
Really lovely food and atmosphere. The restaurant is very small but has a nice feel to it. We felt comfortable and enjoyed our lunch. Would have preferred more of a choice of tea and perhaps not just a teabag in a mug. Apart from that the dumplings were delicious.
Overall, the food is fresh and tasty and good value for money. The place is quite small and perhaps a little disorganised. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was the slightly slow and chaotic service. In the end, we were offered a large table in a private alcove...a luxury for 3 for Sunday lunch. £75 for the three of us including tip for dim sum. I would go again, but not if I was in a hurry.
I booked a table for 6 people at Baozilnn - Romilly Street to celebrate a friend that was leaving London. The food and service were amazing and all my friends were very delighted with the choice. There are no many places in London where you can have great quality of food at a very honest price. Will come back for sure and I have already recommended the venue to couple of friends.
A perfect spot for a fast lunch!
We enjoyed everything, that was delicious and fresh!
We loved it!
When I arrived they didn’t have a table ready even though I made a reservation, which was not great... but the food was really good and the place looks lovely
Really good food, dumplings, and noodles were all amazing!
Excellent Chinese food. The pak choi was just right: a tiny bit crunchy and not overcooked with a lot of flavour and served with garlic. The pork was very tender and juicy, and the scallops cooked just right. I had previously had the spinach which was a delight. It is better to book but we were always well received and had a nice table.
Such a great experience at BaoziInn, the staff were very helpful and attentive, and the food was phenomenal! Lots of great options and food arrived speedily. Highly recommend the Prawn and Chive dumplings.
Food was flavourful and authentic, albeit fairly small portions. The service was attentive and our server was really helpful, though clearly overworked in terms of number of tables. The dim sum was tasty though rather sticky. The scallops were absolutely fantastic. Our table was in a small and stuffy room in the back that was lacking in ambiance. This was a pity given that my parents were visiting from overseas and I had requested a good table. There was nothing particularly bad about BaoziInn, but I'm not rushing to recommend it.
My husband and I visited for our anniversary. We booked via open table cause you had good reviews and you were on time out. We couldn't have been more disappointed.
When ordering from the menu it wasn't clear what all the ingredients were in the items on your menu. I asked the person serving us what was in all of the colourful dumpling sets as I only ate seafood and vegetables (no meat). He pointed out the ones that had prawn and we ordered that and the turnip cakes.
I had assumed that we would have been told there was meat inside as I told the server I don't eat meat.
When the meal came, I ate a turnip cake and felt I could taste someathing strange. I started to feel a bit sick and ill so I asked the waiter if there was meat inside the turnip cakes. He said no I don't think so but I will check just incase. When he came back he confirmed there was.
I had told the lady to approached our table what happened. She was nice and offered something to help or change the food but at that stage it was too late. She also said she thought the menu was clear but its doesn't show ingredients. I was sick in the theatre after our meal and again at home and have been left ill all weekend. This totally ruined my weekend, our anniversary night and the theatre booking we had made that evening. The restaurant also didn't appear to care too much as they said I should have known better!
The place is a little bit dark but it makes it even more cosy. I can't remember names of two girls who were serving us but they were both very lovely and patient as we couldn't decide what to have. We got our food pretty fast and oh my, that food.
I've had Dan Dan Noodles for the first time in my life and it was simply amazing. My boyfriend had Spicy Beef Shin Noodles in Broth and it was also great.
We're not from around London but next time we're there we're definitely coming back.
The value is true to the quality and the overall experience was great.
They must have had an off day
Il cibo è ottimo, il servizio altrettanto. Rapporto qualità prezzo non bilanciato. Porzioni non abbondanti.
The only bad thing was that there were no more Xiao Long Bao, that created a kind of a disappointment
Food is good but service is quite slow and doesn’t check on you much
Good food, service and ambience.
We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food a lot!
Decent meal, with decent service in a central location
I’ve dined here a few times before and always had a good experience. But this last time was ruined after one of the waiters spilled chilly sauce all over my mum’s coat. They apologized and gave us some wet wipes. The stains never came out, even after a few trips to the dry cleaners. Won’t be going back.
What we could eat - we don’t eat pork - was delicious! We had the dim sum platter ( 3 type of prawn), the wontons (2 types of prawn), the salt and pepper squid and the king prawns (again) on a stick. All delicious but glad we didn’t have a shellfish allergy or dislike!
Not very welcoming. Too pricey. Not much room to eat. My tea came in a mug and cost me £2.80 !!! I will not go again
