Contemporary American
A local favorite, Banning’s Tavern is located in the heart of Easton’s historic district. Long known for the excellence of our traditional and contemporary menu items, Banning’s has also become famous for the variety and depth of our whiskey and craft beer selections, unmatched anywhere in the region. The Tavern is named for a local historical figure, Jeremiah Banning. Seaman, raconteur, aide de camp and advisor to Washington and Jefferson. Jeremiah was well known for the quality of his table and abundant hospitality, a tradition we are proud to carry on in his name.

The room was so loud that we could not hear our friends across the table. The food quality was poor for all four of our sandwiches. The service was also poor. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Fantastic Shepard's Pie and Beef and Guiness Stew. Beautiful cozy venue thats a step up from your average pub with white table clothes and lovely crockery. Friendly staff.. Will definitely be back.

Only issue was that they were out of several things (day after Thanksgiving). Otherwise we all enjoyed and will return

The tavern is located in a repurposed movie house with beautiful woodwork behind the bar and glass elements that the owner remarked were brought in from other older buildings to enhance the ambiance. The bar has a nice wine list and reasonable prices and a many quality whiskey choices.Menu selections range from creative tavern selections to unique entrees, all well prepared and more than adequate portions. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the Easton and St.Michaels area.

We're happy that Bannings is back - the waitstaff are friendly and competent, the food is terrific (we both had chicken pie - reminiscient of pot pie but with less crust; sides of rich and gooey mac'n'cheese and green beans almondine). Some nice beers on tap - but we would have liked to see more local brews available.

Not understanding the one star reviews-we’ve dined at this restaurant many times and mostly been very satisfied. Maybe it’s the difficulty getting good help and supplies lately due to COVID. We were needing Banning’s Burgers and they were very good. Worth the yogurt and fruit to make up for the calories the next day. :) Chase was a very attentive server. We will return.

I booked this reservation on Open Table for Wednesday September 22nd 2021 at 7:00 p.m. on September 10th 2021. I even received an email and text on Tuesday September 21st 2021 requesting that I confirm as to whether or not I would be there-I replied that I would. Imagine my surprise upon our arrival on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. to find that Bannings was closed. There was a sign on the door stating the restaurant was only open Thursday through Sunday.

In the future, Open Table needs to verify with restaurants using their service what the exact operating hours are. I will no longer be using Open Table to make reservations as frequently now.

Pre-performance at the Avalon. The restaurant was crowded but we were seated quickly and had a very pleasant dinner. My husband thought his rockfish dinner was one of the best he’d ever had.

We went on Valentines Day so they had specials that included prime rib and lobster. I had the prime rib and it was delicious! It was a bit loud but it is a tavern after all.

Quaint place, actually it's adorable. Small, decorated nicely, seating is a bit tight. Our service was excellent, the food was excellent. The menu is fairly limited. I looked the menu up on line before making my reservation. I found food and wine that I can drink. I cannot drink wines from US, the wine list online showed an imported White. When we arrived there wasn't 1 imported wine. Therefore, if you are flexible about your wine selection you will enjoy the food, service and ambiance.

If you like a locals happy hour crowd with friendly service and great food- it's the place to go. I'm not a local but eat at Banning's before every show I go to at the Avalon- park once- eat dinner- walk next door (literally next door) and catch some live music! Who can ask for more! I do recommend reservations

Happy hour on a Friday evening so it was very noisy at our table in the main bar. Settled down after 7 PM so it was reasonable during our meal. Food is good: carefully prepared and served. Service was attentive and friendly. Prices reasonable and a good draft beer selection. Very convenient if you are going to the Avalon, which is directly accessible. We'll be back.

Holiday gathering co workers ordered grill cheese, cheese not even covered the whole bread. Looked like one slice of cheese on the sandwich. Out of oysters, also rye bread. 2 orders were suppose to have other sides came out with chips.
One sandwich had something like black plastic on the plate.

I was displeased with the meal. Usually I have found it to be a decent place to eat a meal but for the money the issues experienced should not happen. The crab dip was small and extremely fishy tasting, the juice on my filet was very salty and running all over plate into my onion rings which were then soggy, the Brussels sprouts done on outside hard in center. I do not complain but if you want to be a great tavern be that...if you want to be upscale restaurant then be that ...if you can't do both pick one .

My husband and I had dinner there on a Friday night. It was a little loud, but not too bad. My husband had the Rockfish and I had the Braised Short Ribs, both were fantastic. They only had cheesecake for their dessert selections so we did not partake in dessert. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. We will definitely return the next time we are in Easton.

We ate at Bannings Tavern while in town for the annual Waterfowl Festival. The chowder was, as the menu says, 'world famous' and the crabcake was one of the best I've had - which is saying a lot on the Eastern Shore. The crab cake was lumps of backfin with what seemed like shredded crabmeat 'filler' - cooked perfectly (soft on inside with slight crust on outside). The sound level was moderate since we were seated near the bar - and folks were celebrating the Waterfowl Festival - but all were cordial. The staff was very efficient and pleasant. All in all - a very nice experience that I'd recommend to anyone.

The beef short ribs had a marvelous sauce, but were very tough and dry. I ate only a couple of bites. I’m glad I had a large salad prior to the main course.
