Greeter more interested in sharing photos on phone with friends rather than greet my arrival. Server came up and quickly led me to a table. I returned to the greeter (to confirm my booking via Open Table) and again had to interrupt the greeter who was still talking with several friends.
At the table, initial service was rushed, then slow.
Dinner was good but overall experience was not exceptional.
This is the best Persian restaurant I have been to. The service is good, the food is delicious and the portions are very generous.
Excellent food and excellent service. A very good, family restaurant with healthy portions and very reasonable prices. I will definitely be back!
Excellent meal as usual. Well worth it.
I haven't been to Bandar in about three years. I used to come in at least once a month for about fifteen years. Everything was as great as I remember it. Service was great, drinks were great, value for the money is great, but most important, the Chicken Kabobs remain the VERY BEST i have ever had. This is one of the few restaurants that has survived for about 20 years because they do not change what works well!! I can't wait to fly back to San Diego for a dinner at Bandar!
Adar polo could have fed 4. EXCELLENT!
The food was good and plentiful. I suggest you order an entree for every two people. The chicken with rice and lentils was very good but two or three people could have eaten from this one entree.
It was a great place, outstanding Valentine's Day date gonna definitely come back.
The location was prefer when going to a show at the Balboa Theater, at Horton Plaza. The food was tasty and the portions were huge!!!
My wife and I have eaten in Bandar several times and go there whenever we have a function at the Balboa Theatre or the Lyceum. Bandar is a family run restaurant with outstanding Persian food and dishes on the menu that I have never seen before in other Persian/Iranian restaurants. Every item we have had from their menu has been excellent, well prepared, well seasoned, and served with the best rice ever. The service is pleasant, the staff friendly, and each dish outstanding. They also bring a basket of lavash at the beginning which is more like the lavash I am used to, soft, not crisp like flatbread. They have a full bar and a decent wine list. We eat out often and wouldn't eat here as often as we do if it weren't wonderful.
The staff were brilliant. They helped us select a family style meal for 16 and it was outstanding. Just the right amount of food, great quality and wonderful service. Highly recommended.
Awesome Persian food. Everything is cooked to perfection!
Bandar, frankly, is rather inconsistent. I have eaten here three times in the past 6 months. You never know what kind of experience you are going to have here (unfortunately). The first time I ate here, I was alone and ate at the bar. That worked out well--the bartender couldn't help but notice (and serve) me, and the food was different and quite good. The second time I was a member of a party of four seated at a table. And that, my friends, is where the trouble begins--and was repeated on my last visit only a few days ago (also with friends). Harried staff, no recognition we were there after we were seated, took far too long to be given menus and start the dining process. Other trusted friends who also have been here have remarked to me that the service here can be pretty iffy. As for the food, I think it is generally good--but avoid any chicken dish. (They overcook it consistently.) This place needs a service tuneup in a big way. This isn't a new problem. I'm going to check out some other restaurants downtown before I come back here. Too expensive to risk disappointment. : (
excellent service every time !
Shame on me for not trying Bandar’s sooner. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and quantity of good food. Wonderfully seasoned, we all loved our meals. Two generations, boomer and millennial all thought Bandar was a hit!
Eggplant was to die for!! Food was great the service should’ve been better but the food made up for it for sure!
Great dinner. Our waiter Dave did Ana amazing job!
Our server did not check up on us after we received our food. The quality of the food was poor and extremely overpriced. We paid over $30 for my husbands meal for average lamb with way too many portions of rice on one plate. My food had way too much rice and the ground beef I had wasn’t good nor seasoned well.
perfecttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Great food and service!
Portions were very large. Food was good and service was pleasant. On a Tuesday night the restaurant was nearly empty.
This restaurant is behind the main street (5th) in Gaslamp, SD. Nice location, good service at the table and the price is fair (one dish can be ordered for two people due to its size). I preferred the main dish than the dessert, that was a cup with a mix of ice cream and other undefined ingredients..
We’ve been eating at Bandar for years. It’s always delicious, healthy and definitely the best chicken in town. Order Adas Polo because their rice with lentils, dates and raisins is extraordinary good and the chicken marinated in lime juice and saffron is unique.
It’s a family run business and you always feel very welcomed. The service is excellent. We highly recommend eating at Bandar.
This place was pretty terrible. My beef Barg (filet mignon) was absolutely terrible. Tough, flavorless, one of the worse pieces of steak I've ever had. The only thing that's preventing me from giving it a one star review was that my girlfriends lamb was actually pretty good.
Service was sub par. The waitress and waiter we had weren't mean or rude, there was something just off about them. Oh, and for what the food is, it's incredibly overpriced.
Will not be back.
Food was lackluster. Service was inattentive.
What a terrible experience. Not only are the dishes extremely expensive, and the portions unnecessarily huge, it took us about 50 minutes to get an entree. In addition to this, a simple glass of white wine required me to prompt the waiter twice. To top it off, The floor was sticky, the place had a foul smell and I had a mini heart attack looking at the bill. Would not reccomend Bandar to anyone who possesses tastebuds.
We dined here pre theater and had a wonderful meal. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. They made sure we got in and out in order not to be late for our show, which was conveniently located right across the street. I recommend the Chicken Soltani. The plate was full of succulent charbroiled chicken and the Koobeidah kabob was juicy and delicious. Also tried the king salmon which was equally amazing.
Wait staff was very rude! We were still eating and they already clearing the table.
Disappointing food..very ordinary, and expensive to boot , tho to be fair, presentation and service were good. Overall however, We felt let down .
Nice menu, good service and very large portions. We all thought the meat was a little overcooked so you may want to order a temp lower.
Don’t let the staff let you order entrees each , it should be noted it is more family style dining . It not the kitchens fault if you order too much, ask your server, they may or may not give a recommendation.
Delicious food presented in an elegant way!
Food was fantastic but really poor service. Server should have advised that Ordering 4 entrees was WAY too much food.
Nice introduction to Persian food. One entree was ample and pleasant for 2 people. Gracious service.
We picked this restaurant because it was rated highly in the local city magazine. The food was mediocre at best. The hummus had much more garlic than we care for. The pita was cold and obviously out of a bag. We chose two chicken dishes. The portion size is huge. Each dish had what I would estimate to be close to a pound f chicken breast and three or four cups of rice. It would have been nice for our waiter to warn us. Seasoning was minimal. We left very full but not very satisfied. Go as a group and order half of what you think you need.
Service was incredibly slow.
My wife and I eat here frequently and as I go through the menu trying different dishes I am never disappointed. The food is authentic, flavorful , and the portions are substantial. A great place for ethnic food.
Was not impressed. Overpriced and food was average.
Second time here and I was disappointed. I do not like the room to the right...too loud and ambiance is not nice like the main room when you walk in. Ice tea was never filled always had to ask. The room was so loud and made me uncomfortable.
The grilled chicken in the combo plate was quite dry
