Welcome to Balmoral Restaurant. Grand Scottish Fare as you’ve never experienced before.
Lush, dark Scottish wood tones greet you upon entering Balmoral Restaurant. A deep-set coffered ceiling hides recessed lighting, designed to light your table elegantly, providing just the right mood. Scottish designs surround you, from the tartan carpet, to wrought iron fixtures, to the swords and shields of lore, to wall murals that evoke the placid Scottish countryside. At Balmoral, we bring the incomparable splendor of Scotland to you.
Musselburgh's Fish and Chips
Boneless filet of haddock. If you went to a 'Scottish chippy', this is what you would get: real chips and real fish, as it's cooked in Scotland. Succulent fish in our beer batter with mushy peas and our house-made tartar sauce. I eat this weekly, reminds me of home.
A succulent 16oz rib-eye steak — choose your option from three different sauces: crushed peppercorn, buttery garlic or creamy mushroom with black truffle oil. These make for the most flavoursome steaks ever. Wow. They have the power of taste all over them. What more can I say. Served with our Chef's choice of two vegetables and two potatoes.
Ye Auld Sticky Toffee Pudding
The Scot's favorite. moist date cake smothered in buttery toffee sauce with house made whisky custard.
Balmoral was Scottish comfort food at its finest. We tried the Haggis appetizer and it was outstanding. So yummy and a great way to introduce ourselves to something new. We also had the Beef Tenderloin and the Peasant's Pheasant. Both dishes were delicious! The Mr. Connery's 007 martini was great too. The only downside was the cost. The food was so good, we'd love to make it a regular, but the cost prohibits that. Might be more of a special occasion type place.
Underwhelming and overpriced. Food was lukewarm, unseasoned.
Excellent, as always. It can get pretty loud at times during peak seating times, but it’s part of the fun, and terrific food, drinks, and staff. Highly recommend.
From the minute we walked in the door, we were impressed. From the at atmosphere, decor, door man, bag pipes. The owner sat us and offered us a few options on where we would like to sit. He spoke with us and checked on us frequently. The liveliness of the occasions celebrated with so g and bag pipes was awesome. The food was so so good. Presentation as well as taste magnificent. We cannot see more about how wonderful our whole experience, the food and everything less. The drinks were wonderful. The food was cooked perfectly everybody was delicious. Worth every penny. I would highly recommend this place not only for a special occasion or a date night for friends family and couples but I would go above and beyond to say that the owners heart was really put into putting this restaurant together from the fine china, the menu and the perfection. Our server was outstanding and polite and there every step of the way without being in your face and interrupting. Five stars for sure.
We love Balmoral! It was our last week in Illinois before moving to Michigan, and went twice in a week . The food is delicious and the staff are always amazing. We will be stopping in whenever we’re in town.
Jacqueline Z was very helpful. Any restaurant that uses Ream’s meats is a must eat place
Service was great it’s a Scottish themed restaurant. Most of the food on the menu is Scottish but certainly taste very gourmet. If you don’t like Scottish food there’s ample on the menu you would enjoy. They even had a bagpipe player greeting guests outside the door. He came to our table and played us a short song on the bagpipe in honor of our anniversary. I highly recommend you give it a try
I want to support this restaurant because of the good work the owner performs in the community but the food and drink prices are ridiculously high. $262 for four people with just two drinks total. I will not go back.
This is a hidden gem in Compton Hills. This is the 2nd time we have gone to this restaurant. This time it was a belated birthday dinner for my son-in-law. They loved it too. We will be back again. Everything was marvelous from start to finish.
Great steaks. The food is wonderful. Great drinks. We love everything about it. It's our new favorite restaurant.
Great table setting ! Makes you feel very special.
Splurged to celebrate my sister’s 30th birthday. Balmoral is not easy on the wallet, but it truly is an experience worth paying for! Kylie, our server, measured out the courses so we never felt rushed OR waiting…the perfect balance of ease and comfort. Love the China, the chairs, the dark wood if the Great Room, the bagpipe player at the door! And the food will NOT disappoint. From appetizer to dessert, everything was exquisite (never thought I would like Haggis…the app is amazing). Highly recommend.
Great food, atmosphere and service!
Very friendly service. Food was excellent. It was fun being greeted by a bagpiper playing. Drinks were great. Our place to go for a very special evening.
We agree with all those"best of" recognitions that Balmoral has received. We were delighted with our experience and plan to return to try more of their menu!
This was a wonderful choice to celebrate our anniversary. Balmoral is an upscale Scottish themed restaurant that brought back visions of our time traveling the hills of Scotland on our last tour. The menu is thoughtfully brought together and the bartender took the time to make a cocktail, not just a drink. I ordered the ribeye with the peppercorn sauce and loved it. The 16 oz portion was as big as I wanted it to be and the flavor was excellent. My better half ordered a perfectly executed beef wellington and we shared the chefs choice of sides. All in all, it was a fantastic dinner and wonderful way to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you to Mr Smith for bringing this experience to Wasco and opening the door to a glimpse of fine dining in the Fox River Valley.
Birthday celebration that was wonderfully memorable…Thank you!
Second time going to this place in less than a month and plan on keeping going.
Beautiful place, nice employees and fantastic food
To those who may have complained about a single server on a weeknight, our server, Kiley, was extraordinary. She handled a half-full house with great expertise and a friendly attitude. And kudos to the hostess, who also bussed tables!
Always a great meal and time. Bagpipes are awesome! Will be back next month for another occasion.....
Excellent FOOD and service, a bit noisy at times. A good value.
Absolutely unbelievably amazing!! I had the venison my wife had the beef Wellington both were perfect! Earl was amazing helping me pick the perfect whiskeys that matches my favorite taste! Collin, the owner!, Checked on our end also advised on some amazing Scottish dishes like the scotch eggs, they even have a bagpiper! This place is all around amazing we will certainly return again!
Just a great ambience - wonderful dining experience
Earl the bartender sets the stage for what you can expect all evening. Impeccable, friendly service only to be matched by the 5 star menu, atmosphere & presentation!
Wonderful experience! Everything was outstanding.
Always friendly staff and the bartender is GREAT! Missed seeing the owner walking around table to table. Food was excellent!
Amazing food, service and ambiance!! Great selections on food and drinks. A must dining experience!!
Outstanding service and delicious food! Made our anniversary memorable! Thank you!
This is a gem of a restaurant. Old fashioned friendliness, excellent service and an amazing representation and execution of Scotland's cuisine. Food is well prepared with obvious attention to detail. If the food isn't enough of a reason, and it is a good reason to go, you need to explore the whiskey list. Just outstanding. Yes it is a bit pricey but I believe the pricing to be fair given the quality of the food.
Clean, very welcoming, friendly, amazing list of whiskey, will be going back on a regular basis !
Balmoral staff are first class !
What a wonderful surprise!. Never expected to find such an atmosphere and food quality in the suburbs. I will no questions be back there soon.
Cool place, great menu choices
This restaurant is a hidden gem. We would definitely go again. Higher end prices for some folks, but worth every penny.
This was our first dinning experience at Balmoral. We went early and the services was good; however within a half-hour the restaurant began filling up and the service deteriorated rapidly. By the time our entree arrived, we couldn't even get our water glasses refilled. The True Scotch Egg was excellent. My Beef Wellington was supposed to be served medium rare, bur was cooked all the way through and was tepid by the time it was served. My wife ordered Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. The waitress said the restaurant was out of rutabagas and the neeps were not being served. (Every time I've had neeps in Scotland they were made from turnips.). I will say the restaurant only employed one waitress and I thought she was inordinately overworked.
From an incredibly involved owner, to a great server, and to great food, this place is a jewel. Beef Wellington features excellent filet, the chicken was amazing, and you have to try the haggis.
All of us had been to Balmoral before and enjoyed it very much. This time was different. It was very loud and the service was very slow and not attentive like we have experienced in the past. This was a Friday night and given the current employment situation(seems like no one wants to work) Perhaps they were short staffed. The food was good except for one person at our table had a too done filet. She did not tell our waitress. The slowest part was getting a drink.
Outstanding dining experience. The food quality was excellent and the selection options remarkable. A great meal and wonderful time.
Celebrated our kids' birthdays. A quiet Sunday afternoon dinner. Salmon, venison, haggis and pork chop were all cooked just right. The sides and appetizers were filling. We took no take home bags. Service excellent.
Fine dining for sure. We have been here once for a special occasion. We were greeted at tree front door by a gentleman playing a bagpipe. Great start! The service was excellent, Anna was our server. Although she has only worked there a few months she was super, she couldn't get any better. Both my wife and I started with an Old Fashioned. Very good. For starters we had the mushrooms and I must say that I've never had any better. I ordered the Manor duck (I think that's what it was called). I would definitely recommend that. Again, the best that I've ever had. My wife ordered shrimp and they were huge and very tasty. They looked like mini lobsters. Our sides were green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes and small fingerling potatoes. Our dessert was a shortbread toffee covered with chocolate. Good but not great. Overall an excellent experience and I will definitely go back for a special occasion. It was a bit pricey but I felt worth it.
Fantastic experience! The atmosphere is charming, fun, and cozy. All of the staff were cheerful and added to the amazing experience. The food was delicious. The steamed salmon was the best salmon I have had--fresh and perfectly cooked. The beef Wellington was above and beyond. Make sure to save room for dessert- delicious choices.
