Welcome to Balmoral Restaurant. Grand Scottish Fare as you’ve never experienced before.
Lush, dark Scottish wood tones greet you upon entering Balmoral Restaurant. A deep-set coffered ceiling hides recessed lighting, designed to light your table elegantly, providing just the right mood. Scottish designs surround you, from the tartan carpet, to wrought iron fixtures, to the swords and shields of lore, to wall murals that evoke the placid Scottish countryside. At Balmoral, we bring the incomparable splendor of Scotland to you.
We came for a late lunch/early dinner on Sunday. We started with a beer and cocktail, a great dirty martini! We then ordered the Sunday roast ham dish, and the mushroom rib eye steak dish. Both were excellent, we love the included side dishes as well - mashed potatoes, croquettes, green beans and glazed carrots. The homemade bread to start is delicious as well. Finished the meal off with the strawberry meringue dessert, just delightful! Portions allow you to take some home for another meal tomorrow. Great food, extensive menu, we enjoy coming here and will return!
Food was excellent and service was robust. Will save this for special occasions only due to price!
Earl at the bar will guide you through your scotch journey. Then enjoy the Haggis Drambuie before a fantastic, Scottish-eclectic assortment of entrees.
Awesome as always
Interesting menu with a good variety of dishes. We enjoyed the smoked haddock starter and the haggis starter. The ribeye steak was tender and delicious and the braised lamb shank was fantastic. In addition to the food they have a huge variety of whiskeys, but work commitments kept me from trying any. Finally, sticky toffee pudding was very good.
Wonderful ambiance and creative menu! Having visited Scotland, we found Balmoral authentic and a trip overseas without leaving Chicagoland.
Went for our anniversary dinner. Requested a quiet table and ended up in the middle of the dining room and no acknowledgement of the reason for the reservation. Server was awesome though there was a lady walking around taking orders to help out and she completely forgot one of our appetizers and the server really did nothing to compensate for that other than say “this is why I like to take my own orders”. I cannot stress how amazing the food was, and the bartender is great. Overall I will go back for food but hopefully the order is placed correctly this time.
An amazing experience from start to finish!
To start, we were greeted by a bagpiper at the door, which was very unexpected. As soon as we walked in, the restaurant manager greeted us with a smile and a warm, hospitable welcome. Our server and server assistant to right there with bread, waters, and cocktail menus practically the minute we were seated. I went with the blood orange old fashioned, and it did not disappoint. The cocktails are pricey, but boozy! For dinner I chose the Beef Wellington, a dish I’ve never tried before but have always wanted to, and it was perfection- Crispy, flaky pastry on the outside, and perfectly medium rare filet inside. I have no idea how I’ve gone 44 years without having it in my life! For dessert we had the Millionaire Shortbread, and it may possibly be the best dessert I’ve had at a restaurant ever.
The delicious food aside, what really stands out is the level of service at The Balmoral. The servers are attentive, but not overbearing. They know the appropriate times to come check on the table, which is a skill lacking a lot of servers these days! They truly care about the guests having an enjoyable experience, and they achieve just that. They made us feel practically like royalty from the minute we arrived to the minute we walked out the door. Definitely unexpected in Wasco, IL, but totally worth the trip. Dinner was not cheap, but worth every penny for the outstanding and very memorable experience. We will definitely be back!
Delicious, high quality food served with all the touches to make it a special occasion, nice linens, quality utensils, crystal glasses and china. The bread and butter are delicious, as were our entrees. Our service was disrupted by so many people asking us how was our dinner, that it was a little too much-waiter, waiters helper, manager (several times) and owner. The owner is friendly, always nice to chat with him. Noise level was higher this night than is normally the case, every one was in a festive mood.
Lot's of nice scotch and very nice ambience. Food was pricey, ordered lamb and steak. Lamb was heavily covered in gravy, taking away any chance of tasting the meat. Steak advertised as aged, it was 1/2" thick and to salty to eat. Brought it home and made hash in the morning.
Would go back for a scotch and maybe an app but not dinner.
Thank you for your feedback. We have taken these issues to our chef and staff and have made immediate adjustments. At Balmoral, our goal is to give our guests a great evening from the ambience to our traditional Scottish fare. We encourage our guests to speak openly with our servers immediately when there's a concern so that we can give you the best dining experience.
This was a really fun place, with great atmosphere and a celebratory feel.
We had the breakfast — salmon and omelet entrees. Delicious. The salmon tasted ocean-fresh.
It was my birthday and they gave me a goofy crown which was fun to wear. They also gave me a wee cake and candle, sang, and presented me with a card and a $20 certificate to spend on our next visit. And we will definitely be back.
We went for our anniversary. The food is amazing. The service was not very efficient, but to be fair, I think it was done in a very laid back Scottish way. Would return in a heartbeat!
Great Birthday dinner! Haggis is amazing!
Nicely appointed decor and professional, knowledgeable staff. Interesting menu. We had rib eye steaks (from Reams in Elburn) smothered in mushrooms and sauce...excellent! Shared cooked vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection. We will be back!
The lovely manager had no servers due to call ins & handled everything herself beautifully. So service was as wonderful as always. The food -every time we go -was awesome!
Wonderful experience! We sat outside since it was such a beautiful night. A little loud from street traffic but it was too nice to sit inside.
Beautiful place settings! Food was delicious. We had the watermelon and goat cheese appetizer, poached salmon and blue cheese filet. Wonderful wine and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Our server, Rachel was fabulous!
It is a bit pricey but everything was delicious! Would love to go back on a cold night for a cozy dinner inside
this was a group of four ladies for afternoon high tea, and it was an outstanding experience
for all pf them. they enjoyed each and every morsel. they are looking forward to the next visit
A real gem for the far western suburbs. The food and service were excellent. My wife has some food allergies and our server, Rachael, was very attentive and helpful. My wife had the pheasant and I had the trout and both were delicious as was the desert. We will be back soon.
Unique! There is front entrance greeter dressed in the traditional Scottish kilt while playing the bagpipes, a plaid interior decor with canvas wall paintings, beautifully decorated china, crystal glassware, traditional Scottish items on menu (Yes!. . .haggis), and attentive service . . . all making for a memorable dining experience. If Anthony is your server, you will get amazing service!
Afternoon Tea was perfect!
Sandi, thank you so much for the feedback! We are happy to hear you thought your Afternoon Tea was as special as we think it is!
Wonderful place to celebrate my birthday with my family!
Thank you for choosing us to make your birthday special, Maria! We hope it was everything you hoped for and more.
a memorable evening -a wonderful way to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Balmoral. Great food and attentive service. We also were serenaded to Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by bagpipe. That was special!
We always hope to give our guests an unforgettable experience-- it is our pleasure to know we accomplished this for you! Thank you for the kind words, and we hope to see you again soon.
Fabulous, authentic Scottish food and ambiance
Exceptional food and service! Great place for a special celebration!
We pride ourselves in treating every guest like royalty! We hope you enjoyed your meal with us and hope to see you in again soon!
As always the food was outstanding and Anthony, our wait-person was equally outstanding. Friendly, fun and very interesting to chat with.
This is by far one of the absolute best, and outstanding, restaurants in the Western Suburbs.
Thank you so much for the recognition! We are proud to hear you think so, and can't wait to serve you again-- the Scottish way!
What a unique experience! Our first time but we will definitely be back. The service was outstanding, food delicious, wine and drink list beyond reasonable and huge! We were there celebrating a birthday they entertained us with bag pipes awesome. The bar is so cozy a great place to sit and have a drink and some apps.
Outstanding meal: wonderfully done traditional Scottish cuisine (truly cuisine not just "food"). Extremely well paced. Presentation was a pleasure. Service excellent.
Enjoyed the bag pipe greeting. He even played Happy Birthday for another table. The hostess was gracious and very accommodating. Our server Sabrina was very attentive as well. Loved the ambiance, china and crystal. The food was delicious and chocolate martinis were great too ! Really enjoyed the experience. We will return for lunch !
We have been to Balmoral many times and the food is always excellent.
Very nice but too noisy. They should correct this.
It was lovely & the food delicious. We have also been there for Afternoon Tea! Tea was fabulous!!
Excellent as usual! Appetizers Black pudding and bacon excessively reheated, dry with bacon over cooked. Chicken liver mousse with orange marmalade delicious but the double layer of fat was too rich. More liver less fat, maybe in a smaller container. Entrees. Ream. 16oz steak excellent and perfectly cooked. Mushroom gravy should be served on the side. Steamed salmon was succulent and perfectly cooked. Love the soda bread! Dessert. Sorry too full maybe next time.
We were there on a Tuesday evening for the Taste of Scotland, a four course dining experience - It was fabulous! There were options for both vegetarians, perhaps vegans and hearty meat eaters. The atmosphere is like no other, decadent almost but not over the top.
We were blown away by this place! The food and atmosphere, it was a pleasant surprise.
Great food, prepared expertly. Balmoral is a great place for a special dinner or a meal with friends. The service is wonderful and friendly.
We came mid afternoon for the Sunday roast. Started with a beer and one of their creative cocktails-yum! Their wonderful homemade bread starts you off, before entrees arrive. We ordered the prime rib roasts - comes with gravy, fabulous crispy Yorkshire pudding, and a nice selection of veggies and potatoes. Between the ambiance and the food, you are transported back to Sunday roast dinners in the U.K.! The service is always super friendly and top-notch. Looking forward to returning soon!
We had a lovely Sunday afternoon at the Balmoral. Highly recommend this Scottish Restaurant.
Lovely and unique dining experience, featuring food you won’t readily see at most dining venues. Great waitstaff! Friendly environment and great food.
