Welcome to Balmoral Restaurant. Grand Scottish Fare as you’ve never experienced before.
Lush, dark Scottish wood tones greet you upon entering Balmoral Restaurant. A deep-set coffered ceiling hides recessed lighting, designed to light your table elegantly, providing just the right mood. Scottish designs surround you, from the tartan carpet, to wrought iron fixtures, to the swords and shields of lore, to wall murals that evoke the placid Scottish countryside. At Balmoral, we bring the incomparable splendor of Scotland to you.
Best Fish and Chips in the Mid West. Great service.
Placed was packed. Unfortunately got seated on the isle across from ordering computers - got bumped and disturbed often. Server needed training badly. Service not good - drinks real slow and table appetizers and main course not served to all at same time. Food not hot either. Too noisy. Seemed that restaurant/inexperienced staff was overcome with full house. Previous experience was majorly better!
Beyond a doubt one of our best dining experiences, EVER!.Food prepared as ordered to the nth degree, timely served, superb staff, waiter, bus persons, hostess. While it appeared every table was taken, there was not a hint of it being crowded to affect our dinner. Is there a higher rating than 10? If so, we give that rating.
From the moment you're greeted by the piper at the door, you feel like you've left Illinois far behind! A very special dining experience with phenomenal food and excellent service.
We have enjoyed Balmoral several times now and this time was as we have come to love, great again!
Loved the ambiance and beautifully done tables. Large menu selection but we found it to be a bit pricey, especially cocktails. My Sean Connery 007 was tasty but weak in the liquor department for $15.
Nice wine selection; scotch lovers will be in heaven. My husband enjoyed the fish and chips and our dinner guests enjoyed their beef Wellington. My dish of bangers and mashed was just ok. I’ve had better bangers but in an Irish restaurant.
We will go back but on,y for a special occasion due to the. Enjoy prices.
We loved everything about this restaurant! What a wonderful and personal dining experience!
Meals ordered: beef Wellington, Shepard’s pie. Both were delicious! We were celebrating a birthday and they made it subtlely special. They gave me a card for a discount off our next visit, which we will surely use!
Make your reservations now! I hope you will love it the minute you walk in the door until the end of your evening.... we did!
5th time there , been to Scotland several times, food is spot on and the staff is fantastic!!!
Great ambiance, excellent service, delicious food and a wonderful restaurant to celebrate any special occasion. Would definitely return to try other menu options!
Great as always. Food and service was impeccable.
Great place for a special occasion! Excellent service and delectable food.
We did High Tea on a Saturday afternoon for my grandmother’s birthday. Balmoral was AMAZING! The ambiance was awesome—gorgeous dark wood, comfy mismatched chairs, beautiful china... The food was exquisite—freshly prepared just before being served. My grandma felt so fancy. Then the manager brought out a birthday crown for my grandma to wear 😁. It was a perfect way to celebrate!
Shepards pie was great!
First timer of Scottish heritage! Perfectly executed ambiance, music, decor, food, and service! Only flaw. . . Ran out of Scotch Eggs!
Main entree food portions could be bigger for the price you pay. However, food was awesome! Loved the atmosphere, the bartender was great and very informative and server was great. We will definitely return.
Great food and service!
Always a wonderful experience. Earl is just the best! And always good to see Colin! Thank you for another awesome dinner and the best service!
A really nice Scottish experience in the burbs. Food was spectacular.
We really enjoyed Balmoral. From the bagpipes playing outside the entrance, the fine China, the whimsical menu, excellent service and very interesting and delicious menu we had a wonderful date night out. We enjoyed all the food we tried. The owner stopped and chatted and thanked us for coming in. Service was exceptional. They even had a sampler platter on the dessert menu. We highly recommend Balmoral.
Lovely experience. We felt like we were on vacation in the UK for a couple of hours. Delicious cocktails...bourbon maple and bourbon cider. We only had main courses but they came with sides so we were quite full. Husband had duck and it was 6-8 ounces and perfectly cooked. I had fish and chips with the best mushy peas I’ve ever had. And the breads.... wow!
5-stars for everything except service, which I gave 4 stars for. It was our server's 2nd day, and she was not 21, so knowledge of spirits is not developed yet (obviously). Our favorite restaurant is Balmoral.
The food and service were, as I indicated, outstanding. Seth, our server did a fine job and was most attentive. We were greeted and sat immediately, but of special note was the fact that we weren't hurried at any time and this added to the overall experience.
One negative comment.... The 'sides/vegetables' were sparse, and barely sufficient for two people, let alone the three of us. In addition, there doesn't seem to be much variation in these sides, but, instead, only consist of carrots, beans and mashed and croquet potatoes both times we have visited. Surely, seasonable vegetables and a variation on the potato theme would be a 'plus', for example, asparagus always makes a fine compliment to a good steak.
Small points but maybe something to consider.
What a gem in the far western suburbs. Amazing menu plus 100's of scotch selections! Homemade warm bread - 3 different types! Scotch egg - outstanding. All of our entrees were excellent. The owner Colin is delightful. You are greeted by a bagpiper. At least on Saturday night. Overall, we will be back to try the pheasant and Loch Ness monster shrimp!
Great restaurant! It is truly a dining experience. Fantastic authentic Scottish food and great service. Lots of added touches.
It was my first time at Balmoral and I thought it was fabulous!! The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere truly Scottish! Loved it and will be back!!!
Great experience! Food and service were spot on
Excellent as always!!!! The restaurant is always so on point!!!!
As usual, our food choices were beyond compare. Balmoral is definitely our "Go To" choice for special occasion dinners.
We went for the “tea” and as my first experience was for dinner everything was phenomenal !
I could not say enough to give this restaurant the accolades it deserves.
Thank you for such an enjoyable day!
So many rave reviews...we had to see what the buzz was about. Came with a party of 6. Were seated promptly and bagpiper opened door for us (no tunes lol). Substantial cocktail menu...had a hard time choosing. Drinks came and so did the dinner menu.
Many choices on menu with a wide variety from traditional Banger and Mash/Shepard’s Pie to chicken and fish. We had the mushroom appetizer which was good, a tad bit pricey for button shrooms. Beef Wellington was very delish as was the Bangers and Mash and the White Fish (forgot what it was? trout?). If you get dessert- get the Toffee Pie or whatever it’s called. Amazing!!
Skip the sticky pudding - blah, no sticky !!
We spent $200 per couple...so it’s expensive. For this price tag I expect phenomenal. It was good, just NOT phenomenal! It’s not like I am dying to go back.
From appetizer to dessert every item was outstanding
This was my first visit to Balmoral, and I can't wait to return! I tried Haggis, and thought it was amazing. The restaurant is an advocate of the farm to table concept, sourcing from local farms. My family shared Pheasant, Rack of Venison, and Beef Wellington. The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, and the service was outstanding.
Fantastic did in the burbs. A truly unique dining experience worthy of a revisit. Kudos.
This restaurant and its exquisite food transported me back to Scotland. It is so refreshing and lovely to find a Scottish restaurant, let alone one with a live piper! From the first piece of brown bread and honey butter, to the last bite of strawberry meringue, I was in heaven. Thank you for such a lovely experience; I can't wait to come back.
excellent restaurant. this was our first visit. we'll definitely be back
We have been wanting to try Balmoral for a while now and our only regret is not making it there sooner! Absolutely top notch in every way. Impeccable service in a lovely atmosphere with phenomenal food. We are already planning our next visit.
I’ve been twice and both have been absolutely amazing! No detail left undone
Immediately upon entering you felt the relaxed elegance. We were seated in moments and our waiter appeared right away to inquire of our needs. I had caught a glimpse of a well stocked whiskey bar and walked over to get the bartender’s insights. He found me a never tried and excellent bourbon. The menu was intriguing and unique, never having been to a Scottish restaurant. We had a wonderful liver mousse and Haggis as appetizers and continued on to lamb shank and an incredible rack of venison.
This was one of the best meals that I’ve had in a long time. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. The ambiance- it felt like we were in a quiet little place in Scotland.
Everything about our experience here was perfect and the food was top notch. Highly recommended!
