We come here all the time and food is always great! They the best selection of beer out of any of the big breweries in the area!!
We booked reservations for the Kettle Room on line. When we arrived we were told it was not open on weekdays. We ate in the main tasting room, which has no table service. The bar tenders take food orders as well as beer orders. They were clearly overwhelmed by the volume . There were runners that delivered our meals. We were never asked if we wanted any more beer. We had planned a night of tasting, but the poor service and loud environment, we hit the high road. I was also surprised by the cost. Normally, when you drink at a brewery the cost is lower because there is no transport or distribution fees. I literally paid $15 for a pint. Don't get me wrong, the beer was awesome. But there was no way I was gonna stand in line and wait for another. Such a disappointment.
We hadn’t been to Ballast Point since it switched ownership. I had forgotten how loud it can be inside. Our server was fabulous (slow start due to him having to move a few kegs in the back), he apologized and even gave us our first round on the house (which was very appreciated but not expected). The carne Asada tacos were out of this world and I wish I had ordered all three carne Asada. All in all it was a nice date night but would probably only come back with a group.
Love the watermelon dorado ipa and the flight was delicious...food was okay...i had fish tacos and wings which paired well with the beer but the quality of food reminded me of an upscale version of the bar appetizer menu in Applebees
Family and friends meeting.
Easter brunch was disappointing. $35 for brunch + 1 beer. Beer was good but food was disappointing. Very little selection: an omelet bar that made a 1 egg omelet with very few choices; fresh fruit was rather small plate of blue berries, blackberries and whole strawberries; pastries / muffins could have been from Costco; shrimp; lox; roast beef (I'm told that it was good); potatoes. They ran out of plates around 11:30 and that took several minutes to solve while everyone asked "where are the plates". All the employees were friendly and helpful. But they seriously need to improve food quality and selection for a $35 brunch. I would recommend for a beer but not brunch.
Easter brunch was great!!
Great food and drinks! Will be returning.
Busy as usual always great!
Ballast point exceeded my expectations for a brewery/restaurant in so many ways. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is absolutely stunning. The brewery is by far one of the most aesthetically pleasing and the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The food is 5 star and the beer is as well. Recommend this place for a date night or a night out.
Wonderful experience on outdoor dining area. Fantastic service!
Extremely poor service, slow and inattentive.
Always wonderful. Enjoyed the burger night.
WOW! This location is amazing! It's a large yet cozy location. Beautiful indoors and outdoors. This was the perfect place for having the surprise party that I put together for my loved one.
Ballast was so accommodating, I mixed up my reservation time and Ballast happily pushed back my reservation for me (thank goodness ).
We originally were set up outside but it got a little blustery out and our server was so accommodating and helped move us inside.
It was an amazing night from the reservation to the event to all in between. Our server was EXCELLENT and I appreciated everything he helped us with!
The surprise was a success and an amazing fun time! It couldnt have been better!
The only thing i would say it's the food to a while to come out. About 45 minutes. But other than that it was great!
I highly recommend this location!
The beer was great. The kitchen was very slow. We waited a very long time for our entrees then they came out 1 or 2 at a time over a 15 min period. There were only 5 of us. The server was good but the kitchen put him in a bad spot. This experience will make us think twice about going back for dinner.
Cool space with great beer and good food. Our waitress was nice, but took FOREVER to get our food after ordering. We were out with friends and in no rush, but I could see others around us were clearly frustrated by how slow food was coming out of the kitchen.
Birthday celebration
The selection of beers was great. The food was okay kind of just bar food. The waiter was rude when we asked about Corned beef for St Patrick's day. He called one of us grand pa which was insulting and he was not very gracious in explaining why they did not have Irish food on St. Patrick's day.
Great food! Great Beer! It wasn't until after we made a reservation that we found out that they had patio heaters....We'll make sure to book for outdoor dining next time!
Great experience! Food was amazing and the beer was even better!!! IPA lovers heaven 😇
First night on vacation in the San Diego area and this was the best choice for dinner with our family! The service was amazing and went above and beyond—-left with a new 6 pack of my new favorite beer! We will definitely be back the next time we vacation in the area.
The duck confit nachos were superb! I also ordered the pretzel with cheese and mustard. The pretzel had caraway seeds which was a really nice surprise, but I didn't care for either of the dips. And WOW! What a beer selection. My server gave some great recommendations based on what I like to drink and he nailed it.
Be prepared to park super far away, or do valet.
Very comfortable, friendly services and tasty fiod
Wasn't impressed by the food, plus took quite awhile for my order to arrive and the same goes for the check. Most know that this place is known for their beers, I tried one of their flights of beers and definitely wasn't disappointed. I've had the Sculpin in the past and would say that it is my favorite IPA. Overall I was kind of underwhelmed with the restaurant, which definitely disappointed me.
As usual, Ballast Point brought out terrific and nuanced beer and tasty food, of which I definitely ordered too much.
Great beer selection (almost 50 in-house brews), great hamburgers, service OK (server has too many tables on a Friday night).
It was our first time at this Ballast Point Brewery and it was a fewest experience. We sampled a total of 12 beers, which all but a couple suites our tastes. The food was great and came out quickly even with a busy restaurant. We got the tomato pesto flatbread, the wings, garlic truffle fries and a couple desserts. The desserts weren’t our favorite but everything else was great. Max was a great server and continuously had us laughing and brought out a couple extra samples that were great. Definitely planning on returning for beer samples and an overall good time.
Food was a great deal, Monday was beer and burger for $10. Or server checked in with us and made sure we got the deal (we were going to order drink first) and after he took our order we didn’t see him again until we were all done. Didn’t check back at all until the food and drinks were gone and when we got the check.
Other than that I would go back and try agin because the food was good.
Enjoyed the location and the food but service needs help.
Only our second visit. We love it!!!!
I loved making a reservation through open table, so easy and simple. The Valet was awesome, very kind gentleman. After we ere seated, The doors to the patio/self seating area were open, making it very cold inside the dining room. We asked them to close them and they did, but servers kept propping them open to get in and out easier. This made it very uncomfortable. I didn't want to freeze, that's why we reserved for inside seating. Also, I was disappointed in the waitress, Michelle. My husband ordered a specific BBQ burger and she brought a plain cheese burger out. When we asked to have the one we ordered brought out, she asked if it was ok if she just brought out some bacon to put on it. I was completely surprised by this lazy gesture. She should have taken it back and brought back the completely correct order. Dates here tend to be great, but I was let down. The tables for two were uncomfortably too close as well. The couple next to us kept leaning over and commenting to us during the date.
We had reservation before hand, so we didn't wait to sit down, however, it took almost half hour a person, host, waiter/waitress, any person to come to greet us, I recommended the place and we were there to celebrate birthday, so it was very embarrassing for me. Then they brought our drinks and some appetizers we ordered fairly fast, however, it took another half hour a person to come to take our entree orders, and the food came very very late. So it was Friday evening, one of the busiest evening, but still waiting almost two hours to eat was unbelievable.
Love the food and of course the beer! Friday and Saturday nights are extremely busy. I felt like our server was overwhelmed. For the amount of people she was helping, there definitely should have been another person. I don’t think you should receive your appetizers before your drinks either; which happened. Regardless of the visit, I will still come back because I love this place.
Great place to have a blast, love Ballast Point beer and the service was amazing.
Unfortunately our experience at Ballast Point was just awful. The service was incredibly slow from start to finish, and the food sat so long before being delivered that it was cold and nearly inedible. The waiter was practically non-existent and even if I had wanted to order a second one of Ballast Point’s extremely tasty beers - I would probably still be waiting for it to be delivered now, two days later. I wish we hadn’t wasted so much time waiting for our food (at least 90 minutes from getting seated to getting the check for lunch - despite ordering simple items - tacos, salad, sandwiches and hamburgers - and telling the server twice during the long waits that we had a commitment to get to after the meal) - so that I would have had the opportunity to speak to a manager. Had the food been served at the correct temperature- it might have been good. Who knows?
The food is always good here but really, we come for the beer. It's the best!
Great place to eat anytime of the day. Best part is the flights and sampling the R&D drafts on tap. Reservations highly recommended. Sunday afternoon brunch menu only.
Food arrived lukewarm. Calamari was rubbery. Duck confit nachos were too sweet.
Service was awful. Waited 10 minutes for anyone to come by after we were seated to pour water and take our order. After finishing dessert, we sat there with empty plates for another 10 minutes until finally asking some random server for the check.
Service was so slow that we ended up staying there for 2 and a half hours, and all we ordered were 4-5 appetizers and a dessert.
Beer was good though.
Will not return.
My friends and I had a great time at Ballast! Our party had a few more people than what I had originally reserved, but the hostess worked with us to accommodate everyone. The beer has a great beer selection! The portion of food is a bit smaller than expected, but the fries are amazing! I highly recommend garlic fries or truffle fries to pair with your beer. Can't wait to come back soon!
At a friend's recommendation 4 of us made it to this very noisy place. The ambiance was energetic but our (older) age group did not fit the crowd. People waited more than 10 minutes to get a beer from the bar but they did not care since they were looking at their phone while waiting. The food was OK or minus. The appetizers were not good at all and the vast variety of beers are not even close to the other San Diego staple, Stone Brewery.
Bartenders are little rude, a couple of the waiters the same but the young lady that helped us was really nice. I don't think we will be going there again any time soon.
