Ballast Point Brewing Company
It was a great choice for my small group from work. Great beer, good food and service. Plus not too noisy so we could talk. Overall, it was a great time.
Phenomenal! Outstanding beer and service! Very engaging staff makes you feel right at home.
The food was kind of subpar. The cheese sauce for their pretzels was chalky, their seabass was closer to tilapia (dry and/or overcooked) the burgers lacked seasoning. Service was great but I wish the food would have been better.
Great food. Great service. Great beer. Great!
Love this place! 2nd time - good beers, ambiance & food. Reservations recommended
Amazing night.. but please bring back the Mango Even Keel!
Great food and service for the Valentine's event. Appreciate the choices and would do this again.
Max made our experience absolutely perfect by being personable, telling stories and educating us on the beer we drank. It was nice to have such a high level of customer service where he went above and beyond. His food recommendations were spot on and we appreciated the extra beer samples. My parents were visiting from Buffalo and I’m thankful we chose to come to Ballast Sunday night, Feb 9. To end it all, Max took the time to show us the brewing operation in the back of the house. Kudos to you, Max, and thank you!
The only part of my experience that left me wanting was the food. Compared to similar brewery restaurants, it didn’t compete. This is based on a single experience here so take it with a grain of salt.
Went with friends and 4 kids under age of 5 early so noise level wasn't too bad. Food was good and drinks overall were good. We had a few flights . Was disappointed that one of the drinks we wanted to taste was out of stock but didn't know till after they brought out the others.
The hostess made sure to find a comfortable place for the kids so really appreciated that.
First of all, service was very, very good. Rachel and the assistant managers and other staff helping her were all top notch, very attentive and very professional.
But unfortunately, the shade umbrellas outside suck and do not provide adequate coverage. It was a January day and we were getting roasted by the patchy coverage, I can’t imagine an actual summer day.
Food was unfortunately uninspiring, yet expensive for pub food, which is a lethal combination for a business. At these prices you either have great food which justify the prices, or uninspiring fare which costs less. But to have your food be uninspiring AND expensive is an awful combination. The kale salad was nearly all kale with zero other vegetables, pizza was greasy sausage and crust tasted of nothing, burgers were just... burgers, nothing special. Fish tacos looked ok, but again, nothing special for these prices. Only thing that tasted really good were the corn chips. So, get the corn chips I guess.
What really irked us though was beers cost $7.50 (!!!) and sodas cost $3, and the soda refills were not free, which we didn’t know. So as a table of 7 we ended up spending a ton of money (probably more than a third of our total bill) on crappy sodas from a soda gun that had near zero carbonation. If we had known it was $3 a refill we would have just stuck with water instead. As for the $7.50 beers, they brew the beer about a hundred feet from where they serve it, and they’re charging nearly $8 a pint? It’s good beer and Ballast Point has always been unnecessarily expensive, but those are just objectively obnoxious prices.
It’s a beautiful place, and the service and staff are truly excellent, but other than those things there’s not many other reasons to come back.
I had reserved a table and requested the outside table with the large fire pit, over a week in advance for a work group
Party. They sat us there then kicked us out saying you can’t reserve that table! They gave to some triathlete group and they stood the WHOLE time and never sat! Meanwhile we were in a dark room with huge table and it took forever for them to let me order my food. Others had ordered earlier and they took orders from those that came later. It’s a super loud place. Can barely hear each other talk. I was SO bummed to not get that outdoor table!
Consistently good but not great food - great atmosphere. I had a non-traditional brew-pub food - the European Sea Bass and it was quite good. The ahi tuna tower appetizer was very tasty.
The guacamole/chips appetizer was overpriced and underwhelming. Likewise, the hummus appetizer was okay.
Parking is obnoxious. Reservations are recommended.
Fantastic beer and selection. Food was okay, not what you go here for anyway but something to put in your belly to help with the alcohol.
Great service, ambience and food. Food and beer are good price for quality.
Employees are very nice and informative
Restaurant was cold. Food was fairly good. Everyone liked the beer.
Ballast Point Brewing has a nice bar with an approachable and chill ambiance. The beer menu is interesting so have a tasting flight. There's wine and cider too for non-beer drinkers. Eat there, or for a quieter more family friendly vibe, eat in the dining room. The menu is the same. Everything we had was very good: the pretzel bite, the impossible burger with cheddar, the mushroom and goat cheese pizza, and the flank steak. It's a pretty and comfortable place with friendly service and an approachable menu.
Not to impressed with the menu choices. Was hoping for more down to earth friendly menu to partner with the beers.
Hello Irma, Thank you so much for the feedback on our menu. We do change it seasonally and will have some updated fresh additions soon. We hope to see you again! Sincerely, Kala Petitte
Birthday dinner. Food was slow. Food came out cold. Victory at sea glass we got us from 2018. Waiter was incompetent about victory at sea or menu. Really disappointing. No birthday dessert.
Victory at sea day
We specifically went in over two weeks ago to specify which table we wanted for the reservation, since we had a large party. We were assured that it would be honored. Not only was our table given away to another party, but we were not allowed to be seated until a certain number of our party had arrived despite asking to sit down and set up (we were also not told of this quota).
extensive beer selections, cool atmosphere, hipster vibe, yummy dish compilations, expensive glass of wine, though. still i would re-visit.
Waiter slow and too casual, we are not at the beach I would think
Waiter was disorganized, forgot to take our food order
Food took a while to come out
Food was ok, but somewhat boring
We had the tour first and the dinner afterwards. The tour was so much fun that it ran longer than expected and we were late for the reserved time, but the staff were very accommodating.
Great place to hang out with friends and family. Good food and beer!
Food and menu uninspired. Service slow.
Hello, Thank you so much for your feedback! Did you dine for dinner on the 29th? We greatly appreciate the feedback given, and I would love to hear more about it so we can use it to make our business better. What types of food would you have liked to see on our menu? Thank you so much for taking the time to write your opinion. Sincerely, Kala Petitte
The food is great, the beer is great, and the service was unbeatable from all I interacted with. We did a brewery tour, browsed the shop, and ate dinner, and all staff members were helpful and friendly. I had a nice evening with my family, and learned a lot about the brewing process that I did not know before.
Absolutely a fantastic experience. six out of five stars!
You can count on top notch food and craft beers from Ballast Point every time
Great food and great service! There were six of us and we all ordered something different (salads, burgers and wraps) - Everyone loved the food. Love the Habenero Sculpin
Max was our server and he was ASTOUNDING! Ballast Point itself is an awesome place to eat and drink but the service made it all the difference. We were celebrating my birthday, and he checked in on us constantly checking to see if we needed anything. The beer recommendations were awesome. I had such a fantastic time at this place. 10/10 WOULD RECOMMEND! Even on a Tuesday night... :)
Amazing services, fantastic food, the best beers
I had made the reservation at 630, and due to things happening sooner than anticipated, we got there early. When I talked to the hostess, she quickly checked that there was a table available, and when she confirmed there was, she sat us immediately. Server came promptly and took our order, and food came out at a reasonable pace. Food was quite delicious, and well prepared. We will definitely be coming back
I had great time with my friends. Food and beer are all good. And our servers, Rachael and Max were the best!!
Overall, the most excellent experience. Our server, Bryce told excellent care of us and really listened to us when going over the beer list in order to pick the most appropriate one based on our personal pallet preference. I am definitely going to set up a private event with Bryce. Willbe back again.
I made a reservation for outdoor seating at Ballast Point and had special requests. When I got there, the hostess had told us that the outdoor seating was open for everyone and “you can sit anywhere” Which was pointless to make a reservation there. And then the bartender got my cousin’s order wrong and she waited for about an hour to get her food. The waiter did give complimentary drinks to fix the issue which was nice.
Blown away by this brewpub. We were told by staff this is the second largest restaurant in SD. It IS huge. Decor is tasteful. The staff was accommodating and very friendly! The pretzel bites were a good buy-12 for $8. The harvest salad was big enough to share ( but we didn’t notice until we were driving home that ours didn’t get any fried sage on it). Beers- awesome! Definitely worth repeating this dining experience. And on Sunday there was live entertainment. The woman had a great voice!
Our tour was great we learn about the history of the brewery and how far the company as grown since its was founded.
They forgot our birthday. Service was so bad we just let it go. Epic fail. They took some off our check without us asking so not bad in the end.
Went to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. Truffle fries are awesome! Our server was great, nice lady. I ordered the sea bass. It was quite delicious, with a nice caramelized crust but I was surprised it didn't come with a side dish. Nothing. No rice, no potatoes. No salad. I love the wood beams in the ceiling and the beer is awesome! Overall it was a great experience.
