Ordering from the menu initially was a challenge. Too cumbersome and came up slow on the phones.
Moving to a system of ordering through a phone , they missed something basic. An option to ring someone for service. I had ordered two mojitos towards the end of my course , waited for 30 mins and then just left. The service used be decent, it has taken a cliff-dive post pandemic.
The food quality was good, a cozy environment to have happy hours!
Beautiful outdoor setting, but you had to order your food from an app and no one checked on us at all. We only had one interaction with anyone who worked there which was the guy who set our orders on the table. No one checked to see if everything was o.k. nor offered to fill our drinks. Also, my chicken salad which cost me $19 was not very good. Very disappointed.
Quick service and great beer selection. Always a great go-to spot to bring friends visiting SD.
Fun time. Good food.
Great beer and good vibes. 10/10
My wife and friends had an amazing time here. Really great atmosphere and the servers were so helpful. The food was incredible and the beer was of course great. Overall a great experience and will be coming back in the future.
Just a little more service, our table was full of empty plates and glasses
Great food, great beer. The prices were reasonable. We went here for a team-building event and things went well.
Under staffed but the staff did the best they could. Food and ambiance was good.
Service was not so good. I did not like ordering from my phone. Hopefully this is temporary. Food was excellent
We had a table of 8 and we all have not gotten together in a few years. It was nice to be able to all sit together in such a well lit and open area. The food & drink were all executed perfectly timed. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here & will more than likely be returning.
First of all, I'm saving my 5's for perfection, so Ballast Point is very close to perfection. Secondly, I don't drink beer so I feel odd grading a brewery and that's on me. There is wine available and ciders for those of us joining beer lovers for dinner. The scanning way of ordering took some a little getting used to but the waitresses were super helpful and patient with us about it. However, this style of ordering does mean that even if you understand it, you can't really ask questions about the food, water refills are non-existent and if you order something and don't get it, like my iced tea order mid meal, you are kind of just stuck. Once you order the food and drinks do not expect further service unless you order something else - though the staff is very nice. This hybrid form of ordering probably needs a little work.
The salmon salad was delicious. I would happily order it again. In fact, even if this is a brewery, I would go there again for that salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the salad was more than just lettuce with a piece of fish on it - which it seems like it is at some other restaurants. My husband's burger was cooked just the way he liked it, medium rare. Heads up, he ordered it rare in order to get it medium rare, which is pretty much the norm for any restaurant.
Sitting outside on the patio was lovely. We made reservations but did request the patio even though it wasn't listed as an option. Felt very covid safe. Even inside, the seating looks far enough apart to be safe and comfortable. I would definitely go again.
The beer was great! This would be a great place as a social gathering rather than a restaurant to sit down and eat at. Food was unimpressive and too pricey for what you get. Seems like the food came from a frozen bag and was popped in the oven. Otherwise would recommend as a social place but not a place to sit down with your family for some good food.
Quick service, outside patio was great, tables distanced. Overall great experience
BP used to be my team's favorite watering hole (pre-COVID). While recognizing the challenges of restaurants have in ensuring safety of staff and patrons, BP now uses this QR code, which then opens up an app, whereby instead of brining up a menu by which you can provide your order to the staff, the app requires you to input your entire menu and then pay. This technology was not working well that night (not sure if other patrons experienced similar problem), often giving error messages or timing out despite multiple attempts to try to simply order a beer and burger. Other restaurants in SD are also menu-less, but the staff still takes the order without relying on the "dependence" of technology which is only as good as the technology itself and of course the end user, which in this case is the patron.
Frustratingly, there didnt seem to be a "back up" method even after the staff member handed us a physical menu as we were still required to input our own order.
While technology is supposed to make things easier, in this case, whatever app BP has decided to utilize is broken and even if it works, again doesnt take into consideration any "challenges" the end user (the patron) may have with fumbling around a small iPhone screen in the hopes of making the correct order.
Friendly service, good food, fullest selection of all their beers. What's not to like?
Went for my husband’s 30th and he loved it. Great food, so many unique beer choices, and wonderful atmosphere.
Love new look
Great customer service
Surprised how good my burger was! Beer was great too.
Wish the menu was bigger but the food was great, service was quick. All the staff was super friendly all the way from checking in to the table
He a great time with the family will definitely be back !
My wife and I had breakfast outdoors. Since it was Mother's Day, they had a rare breakfast menu. We both had eggs Benedict, mine pork belly, hers smoked salmon, and both were excellent.
Menu short and sweet. Labeled ok for food allergens. Lots of outdoor seating.
Food and beer and service were great. Wish you guys would open up for tours. I'll be first in line. Please let me know when tours are open again.
Overall we did have a good time at this restaurant but there were a few things that just really bothered me about the experience. First it was so cold. They had one heater to share between tables and it just wasn’t enough. Most of our guests were miserable the whole time. Second, no servers! I don’t know, I guess this is the new Covid way, but I don’t like not having someone to ask questions or requests to. We were constantly flagging down the super nice guy but he seemed to be busy doing other things and shouldn’t have been helping us. Also, who am I giving my 20% tip too??! Seems ridiculous when you don’t put a face to the help. I was not a fan. Food was good, maybe would go back on a warmer night.
Made a reservation so we could space out and comply with COVID requirements, glad we did. We were on a brewery tour and noticed patrons from the last location being turned away. We were able to order beers from an app at the table and the service was very quick. Food was delicious as well. Great location, will do again.
It will always be a good time, but don't expect anything special.
Outdoor seating made for good noise level so we could have a nice conversation.
Service was outstanding, beer was great!
Sweet potato waffle fries were so-so, and pretzel puffs were pretty good.
Getting together with friends. Love the experience
Horrible experience. We made reservations 7 days in advance to watch the San Diego Legion and were told we had to watch the Padres instead???? After the manager stated we had problems with the staff in the past, we walked out! Went to Carlsbad Brewery where we had an awesome experience and caught the second half of the game. Such a sad experience at the sponsor of the Legion! Not going back.
Food was great and the experience was awesome..!
Was my first time at Ballast Point.!
Relaxed and friendly environment. Ordering/cashing out was super easy and convenient.
Had burrito and fish tacos. Greasy and not worth it. Had to pay before food came including tip. How do you tip on service that has not occurred. Nobody to talk to about menu and essentially no table service. Extremely disappointed. No communication at all.beer was good. Wish I could have ordered a second round but no body to take that order.
Went with friends from the area and had a great time. The server was excellent, providing samples of a couple of beers that we were interested in trying and making recommendations. Three of us ordered burgers, one plain and 2 with everything possible on it, including a large onion ring. All were happy with their food and beer. I ordered the fish tacos which came as described; deep fried cod with slaw and chips on the side. The tacos were topped with pickled onion. The onion tasted great but was an awkward topping to the tacos (sliding around) so I removed them.
5 stars for the servers who did everything they could to make our visit enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.
We were outside on the patio for a spectacular San Diego Sunday afternoon. Food was good. Beer was fresh and delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Dogs’ tails were wagging. All was perfect.
Only disappointment was rather limited menu otherwise great place.
Food service was SLOW. Not sure if it was an off day or something but it took at least 45 minutes for a bowl of chili and some sweet potato fries...wtf? I know there is a pandemic and all, but really? Also, while really nice to be able to just mobile order and pay so you don't have to flag down a server to get your check especially if you are now crunched for time cause it took so long for a bowl of chili, but this also means if you are a quiet party and not drinking so much beer servers are constantly bringing out pint glasses it means you have to literally jump up and down to get a glass of water or silverware despite asking several times. Next time...maybe I'll pass on BP for a week day lunch.
