Enjoyed the food was a little to noisey for us we could barely here each other bit orther than that I would go back again
Beautiful restaurant with a fireplace and a view of the marina. Food was good. The food options are straight forward and uncomplicated. Good and simple. Service was great. Our server, Casandra was attentive and helpful. Great value for the price. We were staying at the Hotel Portofino next door and had a lovely anniversary dinner at Baleen Kitchen.
Nicely cooked food & very courteous & obliging staff. Disappointed with very little choice - eg if you want potato it’s mash - no roast or sautéed or jacket. Customers like choice - certainly more than only one choice.
We had difficulty getting service as our table was in the bar area. We had a large party - 8 and they placed us in the bar. The food was good when we finally received it. And the table was good for our party but I wouldn’t rush back there with such spotty service.
“Service and good were excellent. So was the view. Cannot wait to come back with friends.”
We sat upstairs at nighttime and had a view of the marina. So pretty! Please note, this isn't oceanfront, it's just marina view, but a great view nonetheless. Super cozy inside with a fireplace. Great for a date night! They have a bar on the opposite side that seemed to have a little more of an upbeat vibe. So if you go with your girls, I'd check it out after dinner.
We had an excellent wedding anniversary dinner. We found the service to be excellent, the food was very good, the wine list was good. We had a table overlooking the Harbor near the fireplace. Even with a nearly full restaurant the noise level was very manageable for me. That is critical for me because of hearing loss and background noise issues. there is a nice lounge and bar and the specialty cocktails are both creative and very very good. All and all we would definitely return and would easily recommend it. A very enjoyable 45th wedding anniversary dinner for us...
The food was amazing. We can't wait to go back. The service was great and we will spread the word about this place.
Order the duck carnitas. We had a smattering of the small plates and that was our favorite!
It was the perfect place. Our meals were delicious and the service was great’
The food and ambiance were wonderful. The staff are friendly and attentive. Love the views!
Appetizers good, entrees expensive for what you get, ambiance nice, view nice. Perhaps best for happy hour/ drinks and apps but not dinner.
The entertainment both Thursday and Friday were outstanding! Appetizer, grilled salmon and apple tart were all fantastic as were the unique cocktails. We ate here two nights in a row!!
Like dining on a best friend’s back deck... but with better cocktails and no work!
Everything was very good. I only wish the menu was larger..
Prime Rib, Sea Food Salad, Lobster Tail, Burger etc...
Great spot for creative cocktails, good food and good wine. The space is relatively small, but comfortable. It would be best for a small group or couples, although they do have space for groups. It is perfect if you are staying right next door at Portofino Hotel.
Food was awesome.
Our waitress was awesome too.
However, some of the servers were young and uncaring. One filled our glasses with water and spilled water all over the table - did not ask for pardon and didn’t return to wipe the table. The two servers who served our entrees just placed them on the table, not where we were seated. Suggest to train these young servers even if they only do this as part time work.
not fond of the new chef and fixed menu for Valentines Day
My Wife and I, Come here once or trice a year. This has been her favorite place to eat ever since our second date here in 2014. We rate this location on a scale from 1-10 as a "10" Excellent service, Ambiance is Excellent, From the greeting at the front door to the time we leave the Waitress to the Manager's have made our time here a memory we will always cherish! Thank you Baleen's for what you do. Because we love this place so much we feel like it's our best keep secret. Eating by Fireplace, View of the harbor, open air windows, Fireplace in the lounge with the band on the weekends, nice comfortable seating. There's not enough time to say more but we had an experience on Valentine Day with every dish we taste. October 2016 I propose to my wife with the help of management they made it the best ever. The next year 2017 we married and now Valentines Day the special times keep rolling. Dreams do come true! If your want to experience the magic when you make reservations tell them The Morrison's referred you.
We decided to eat in the bar because it was quiet and comfortable. We shared the duck carnitas tacos which were very tasty. Then we shared Caesar salads and the sautéed red snapper. Everything was very good!
A wonderful surprise for a hotel restaurant. We had two delicious meals; Saturday night dinner and Sunday brunch. Fresh ingredients. Fast service. Excellent food
Great place to take a date. Luxurious and quiet so you can have a great conversation with your date.
We were celebrating a birthday. Excellent service and beautiful view! Some of our food choices were better than other. The glazed salmon was excellent.
Great service and great food. I didn’t enjoy the taste of my vanilla latte and they took it back, only asking if it wasn’t good. I responded that it simply wasn’t to my liking. Something about the flavor. However, the bottomless mimosas were great as was the food. Beautiful atmosphere and view.
Came here for brunch after my wedding at the Portofino. A bit irritated because they combined my mom and my reservation without our permission. This forced a 20% gratuity on everyone’s bill (her party only had 4 people), cheated her out of Open Table points, and is just all around irritating to cancel someone reservation without permission the evening before. Just a poor business practice. For reference we did still have 3 separate bills with 3 different tables. But two of the reservations made under the same last name were combined.
The food was delicious. We tried everything from the eggs breakfast, to the corn meal pancakes, several of the different eggs Benedict’s, it was all delicious. If you want a slow casual brunch with marina view this is a great spot!
The service was fine. The servers are nice, but not exactly high end quality servers. They are a little slow and miss/forget a lot of little things along the way, but nothing that’s bad enough to greatly impact your experience. Just enough to know you aren’t at a high end restaurant. I knew this when I made the reservation because I tried out the restaurant with my finance ahead of time. I just warned everyone upfront and apologized a few times on behalf of their mistakes and everyone was fine. The convenience of the location made the less than superior service okay.
Everything was under seasoned and over cooked which was bizarre given it came to the table very quickly. The wait staff were pleasant and eager to please yet very inexperienced. They kept taking away plates while we were still eating until eventually one member of our party was still eating while the rest of the table was cleared and they offered the check. It was so rude. I was scared to go to the restroom for fear they might clear my unfinished drink. Had we taken a long time to eat or if the place was full I might understand this behavior but the place was practically empty (on a Friday night)
Super disappointed
Christmas Brunch was a major treat. The cuisine was delicious and our competent, friendly server took such good care of us.
Loved the charming marina views . Can't wait to return!
We love Baleen for it's ambiance - a great place in our neighborhood for upscale food and cozy atmosphere. We have had some great meals there - we celebrated my husband's 50th birthday 3 years ago with a brunch for 20 people and the food, service, and overall experience was perfect! For Christmas Eve we came for an early dinner before going to a gathering. It was a fixed menu that looked fairly enticing. We felt that for the price, it left a little to be desired. The portions were small even for a bistro style place, and the desserts were not as special as we had expected for the price (we thought the lava cake would be gooey and warm, it was really just a little cup like the shortcake cups you buy in the store, only chocolate). With that said, the entrees were pretty good and the ambiance was perfect for a lovely, cozy dinner, and that was the main thing we were looking for. We were very appreciative of the employees who spent their Christmas Eve working to make it special for others.
Hidden gem tucked away in the Harbor. Great for sunset dinners, staycations, and tapas. We always do tapas with a stiff drink.
The service was a little slow and the bar was even slower. Limited in Vodka's and the martini was the tiniest on record with a nice price attached. Think this restaurant needs a few more months to work the kinks out of the kitchen and bar.
The ambiance was nice and quiet and the bar music was appropriate for the setting.
Did not appreciate having to pay for parking at the kiosk before entering the parking area as they have a good valet at the hotel which is right next to the restaurant.
We are local and have enjoyed many celebrations here in the past and hope to do so in the future.
Always a great vibe with great food!!
Great food, great location, great service. Enjoy the harbor during any time of the day.
We are tenants in the Marina, so we go to Baleen regularly for drinks, but not to eat. This was the night of the King Harbor Boat Parade, so there was chaos. Drinks took WAY too long to get, but with the crowd it was understandable. We kept the meal simple: a BLT wedge salad, simply shrimp for Nancy and me, and simply salmon for our friends. At the end of the meal all four of us were remarking about how great the food tasted.
The server brought us a complimentary lava cake to make up for the slow cocktails.
All in all, good food and great fun.
The restaurant and staff were totally unprepared for the crowd following the boat parade. We had reservations and were offered the worst seat in the restaurant, even when many tables were open. We waited long periods for drinks and food. Our server was apologetic, but there is no excuse for waiting a half hour for drinks. We will not return.
Nicely refreshed space with great harbor views. Attentive service and good food.
Been here many times and the food and service never disappoints!
Beautiful view of the marina from every table. Service was excellent.
I went to Baleen with my girlfriend because we were on a staycation and wanted to eat a nice dinner on the water. There was barely anyone here, but the food was delicious, the service was very nice and attentive and the view was spectacular. I highly recommend coming here.
The meal was delicious but we had no way of knowing that the restaurant is closed for renovations. They are temporarily set up in the lobby of the Portofino Inn. Good effort, but it was a little weird. Would rather wait until the reno is complete.
I love this setting. The harbor is beautiful, the food is good enough but the ambiance and views are incredible. Good breakfast venue.
