Baleen is a great restaurant with an interesting menu and good wine list. It's location on the water makes it a special place for watching sunsets. The service is extraordinary with a friendly and accommodating staff. The prices are somewhat high, but it's worth it especially for special occasions.

Love this place for special occasions...waterfront dining is beautiful, especially at sunset. The staff are wonderful--efficient, pleasant and knowledgeable. Salmon was EXCELLENT...grouper special was a little disappointing since is was supposed to be blackened, but didn't have enough seasoning to render it "blackened." Hearts of palm and artichoke salad was amazing....
All said and done will return for many more pleasant dining experiences.

Beautiful setting, excellent food, server however was not attentive after serving our meals. She took far too long to provide us with our check, to process it and then to finally return with the final tender.

While the food here is very good, the view and the service are what gives this review 4 stars.
We both ordered the grouper. Mine was absolutely perfect but my husbands was quite dry. They also have a very good wine list

We had a reservation at 8:15. They did not come to seat us until 9:00. Many open tables that were not turned over. No apology for the excessive delay-a shrug of the shoulders. Will not return.

Every year we close out our annual ladies' trip to Naples with dinner at Baleen. We always come at least an hour before our reservation time so that we may enjoy a drink at the bar. This year, the first thing we noticed was the striking change in decor. Prior to the hurricane, the bar at Baleen was dark wood, old-Florida money/country club style. The new style is white with various shades of blue and, frankly, generic. Nothing memorable about it, but the drinks are still good and the bartenders were friendly in spite of being quite busy.

I requested an outdoor table with a sunset view when I made the reservation (at least a month in advance). And while we did get an outdoor table, we needed to stand up to see the sunset. It was literally the last table before going indoors and blocked by a wall. Considering the special request made in advance, we would have liked a better table.

The food was good, not great as in past years. We ordered a pound of crab legs, which were delicious but at $70/pound, pricier than just about any place I've ever been. In our group we ordered a filet, grouper, halibut, and risotto. The risotto was outstanding, the filet perfectly cooked. The halibut and the grouper were both overcooked and dry, and the accompanying side, while inspired, were not delicious.

The stand-out for the entire evening was our server Adriano, who was attentive, efficient, and made us all laugh. At a fine-dining establishment, service needs to be excellent to complement the meal. In this case, Adriano's service well surpassed the food and really made our whole night.

We will be back to Baleen again, but hope they make some necessary changes to the food quality.

I would recommend it, however I am not sure I would go back anytime soon. The view of course, was spectacular but the menu was somewhat limited and the prices are steep for the portion size. Service was fine.

First, let me say...BALEEN at LaPlaya is one of our favorite places. We have dined there, and, stayed there for years...sadly, our experience was disappointing ....our waiter took our drink order and did not return for a half hour, he seemed to disappear throughout the evening, I’m assuming he was overbooked with tables, we ordered, our appetizer came and was cleared , our entrees came and we said wait , our salad course has not been served, they took them back, brought out the salad course, and, when the entrees were served again, the food was not hot...so, that lead us all to believe , our food was left under warming lights and not remade...it makes me sad to say all this, I’m hoping it will be helpful to the restaurant mgmt. Its a special beautiful place .

Baleen is always a great experience. Beachside dining in an elegant setting. LaPlaya Resort has a great setting for visitors who want a lifestyle true Florida dining event. Enjoy your dinner, watch a beautiful sunset and relax at the fire pit after a gourmet meal.

The ambience of the Gulf view is always captivating! Food is always good maybe a tad pricey. Everyone is friendly and wants to make sure your experience is excellent. We give high marks to Duane as he is very friendly and has excellent service. Our favorite place!

A beautiful, sunset over the Gulf of Mexico while dining on fresh seafood , delicious wine and the love of my life. It doesn't get much better than that - And , oh, the service was impeccable (really trained servers). Plus.....I got to ring the famous bell at sunset.

We ate in the bar section outside to watch the sunset. We were told we could eat there. Ordered crab lyonnaise salad. Which came without crab. It has a poached egg in it which was cold and it took 10 mins and asking three people before our waitress came back. She said she would bring us crab. Another 10 mins goes by and I said to just forget it. Ordered bread which came after dinner arrived. Ordered a wine which never came. The “signature dish” which was grouper and our split grouper was raw and the risotto was Beyond garlicky. Also ordered Brussels sprouts which also never came. Manager was totally condescending but did take off salad and only one grouper. We felt he didn’t appreciate customers If we ever go back it will only be for drinks and sunset! Awful experience! Went to Trulux the next day and Had the MOST wonderful experience. That place has class!!!

It looks like the place really has gone down with the new management. The food was not very good at all and one seemed to be more crowded than it used to be. Couldn’t recommend it.

If you like a salty food this is a perfect place for you. I didn't enjoy any of my food besides creme brulee. For sure it is not a place that I will think of in the future. Great service but very poor quality of food.

When I was in Naples last week I dined at Baleen twice for dinner (breakfast every morning since we were staying at the hotel!) The first time we dined there it was good. We were celebrating an engagement of some friends and had a very extravagant dinner with mucho alcohol. The food was good and I ordered the specialty of the house, a grouper dish. The corn, crab and risotto cake it sat on was so delicious. The fish was good, no problem. We walked out happy, everyone seemed to enjoy their dinner. Chocolate Kahlua "cake" was fabulous as was the key lime cheesecake - excellent desserts. Cut to 3 days later. I took a friend there for her birthday dinner. She ordered salmon and I again, ordered the grouper because I enjoyed it a few days before. To interject something here: a different friend had mentioned that she disliked Baleen because she had been there recently and her fish was overcooked. Anyway, back to my dinner. The grouper was terribly chewy - totally overcooked and my friends salmon was very well done and dry. They didn't even ask how she wanted it cooked as is usual with salmon. I did mention it to the waiter and when he brought the check he apologized and took my grouper ($45) off the bill. I really appreciated that as it would have been a crime to pay that for such badly cooked fish. Coupled with the fact that my other friend said she had had overcooked fish here and that my friend and I both had overcooked fish here I feel I need to report this. Also, at breakfast the staff could not possibly have been kinder and more friendly and helpful. At dinner, not so much. For such a pricey venue I think they should rethink their staff, the fish cooks and the terrible bread.

All was very good, however, with the sun setting in April with temps around 80+, dining with the sun in your face was awful. The pull down screens did not work so the sun was extremely hot and annoying up on the patio area.

I would recommend Baleen for the view and ambience around the water but the new decor is very "cold" which contributes to the ridiculous level of noise in the dining room.
Food was good but the high prices of common things such as grouper entree ($46) makes you feel like you are getting ripped off.
For those prices everything else should be almost perfect and they certainly were not.
