BALEEN - Naples Ratings and Reviews
Food was outstanding. Service outstanding. New setting....very sterile. Does not glow with beauty of the outside natural beauty. Too too stark white. Weird settee in front of elevator. Beautiful chandeliers under portico replaces by hideous fixtures that look like upside down space heaters. I like contemporary but this is cheap looking instead of fine sleek yet warm contemporRy....too bad
I have been to Baleen many times, this was my worse experience. Not only did anyone not tell me they were under construction at the time and I had to walk up a flight of steps using a cane and back down..but the minute we got our water the glass was dirty, and my soda drink the glass was dirty. I had to ask for a clean glass of soda. We had to ask for a server to give them our order. I had company visiting from out of town and took them to Baleen on purpose because of my repeat great experiences. All I wound up doing was apologizing ...Although I will say the food was as excellent as always. it was not an experience I hope to ever repeat. There is no excuse for dirty, cloudy glasses
I highly recommend Baleen at La Playa. This was our third time dining here in the past six weeks and we will return again soon. The food and cocktails are first rate - which one would expect at a high end restaurant. Service is excellent also. Dwayne (and other staff members) did not hover over us but was there when we needed service. We scheduled an early dinner hoping to eat outside and see the sunset. Unfortunately it was too windy and cool for our party so the restaurant was able to accommodate our party of seven inside. Even so, we still had a great view of the water and the sunset. Another great meal and view at Baleen. We will return.
Beautiful setting, and if weather had been warmer we would have sat outside for an even more beautiful experience. The Brunch items were different and creative ( i.e: pear and ricotta napolean, brisket eggs benedict) and well presented. Would definitely recommend this for special brunch and hope to come back on a warmer day!
The food was great but not sure if it was entirely worth the price. The food and drinks are very expensive but the view is amazing. The restaurant was extremely noisy as well. The worst part of the noise was the constant “nails on a chalkboard” sound that happened when someone slid their seat across the floor. I know it sounds ridiculous to complain of that but it was constant and so loud!
This is the third time I have been to Baleen. It is my favorite restaurant in Naples! BUT, this is the first time I sat inside (cold and windy outside!) Tables on the back patio or the beach are fabulous - the view of the ocean while eating is truly memorable. Inside is a whole different story because of the NOISE! Our foursome could barely hear each other it was so loud. They need to add noise-canceling foam or rugs or something! Excellent food, excellent service, but if you're going to go, make sure it's warm enough to sit outside!
We have brought our house guests for sunset dining here multiple times each season for almost 10 years. What a shock it was to walk in this past weekend with our guests for an old-Florida style restaurant to find that they were just completing a decor change. Baleens as well as the lobby of LaPlaya now look like every other restaurant and hotel in a coastal town.
The new decor is beautiful and very well done, but looks like a million other places we've been to. The charm and upscale coziness is gone and it now feels cold, sterile and very noisy.
The food and service were great as always, although the menu could use a few new items, but that's always been our opinion of the menu.
So many great restaurants in the Naples area, heartbroken that this will be our go-to place any longer.
All excellent as usual. We love the restaurant. However 1) paying $5 for parking after spending nearly 300$ for dinner was an insult and cheapens the whole experience 2) I ordered a 2013 Turley rattlesnake Zin willing to pay the price. The waiter brought a 2015 and did not even say anything nor was willing to adjust the price. I know my wines and that was very disappointing. 3) after expressing my discontent a manager never showed up. I did not make a huge deal about these disappointments because I did not want to ruin my wife’s special birthday.
Perfect setting for a business lunch. Our server Carolann, was exceptional, very personable, and came back often to check on our table. Food had great presentation and was hot. Everyone enjoyed their selections and we'll be back again in the future. Thank you ~
Baleen in Naples, FL, has been our favorite place for years. Ambiance, water views, wait staff and menu are the best!!
We like to go for an early dinner and then we stay for dessert and after dinner drinks around the fire pit. Does not get any better than this!!!
Server, Vladimar was outstanding. Pleasant surrounding but could have dimmed the lights. We shared an appetizer of mussels which were served in an excellent sauce. One red snapper, one scallop, both very good Desserts were Kailua chocolate cake and mango bread pudding , amazing! It was cool so we sat inside, next time on the beach.
It is always a challenging menu for me and my husband, but I had looked online and found something we could each order. Except when we arrived at the restaurant they had changed the menu but had NOT updated it online. Therefore our meals were no longer available. The manager came over and was amazing, though we just ordered an appetizer and left. She was very apologetic and said she would look into it and correct it. Also, she comped both our "appetizers", which was very thoughtful (though not necessary). We are happy to pay for our meal; we just want to order what was advertised as being available!
We had a wonderful dinner watching the sunset. We had the choice of eating on the beach or inside and we chose inside where it was a little warmer. There were so many choices for dinner, but we selected the lobster newberg soup and swordfish as our main meal. The table was a bit small for a party of two and we did feel a little uncomfortable. The food was superb and we would definitely return to try other dishes. The only other problem we experienced was the service. It was not a busy night, but it took more time than normal to place a drink order and to request other items. I would definitely recommend!
We had hoped to sit outside but weather didn’t cooperate so our first time inside. Much prefer outside. Indoor was noisy and difficult to carry on on conversation with my Mother and my son (both use hearing aids). We did have our grandson (1year) with us and the staff was great, bringing his food early and the kids menu was wonderful.
Baleen has always been a restaurant which served very good food in a great location right on the beach. I was told that they have a new chef. Our grouper, which is a local fish, was not edible - tough and tasteless. Very disappointing for what used to be a reliably good restaurant.
Yet another great dining experience at Baleen! This time we visited for New Year's Eve, arriving in time to view a terrific Naples sunset. Our assigned table on the porch was a perfect spot for viewing and dining. The menu for the evening was crafted especially for the occasion and included a variety of excellent choices. Service was also excellent as we've come to expect from the staff at Baleen. Overall, it was an enjoyable and relaxed visit to one of Naples finest restaurants.
Fabulous from start to finish! The best service always from Elena! It was so wonderful to see the staff working cheerfully together under the obvious direction from Rene. The new chef and the kitchen staff really showed what it means to be a “top-notch” FIVE STAR resort. On one of the busiest days of the year. We are so grateful for your passion for exceptional food!!
As locals for the past 27 years we have seen lots of changes and applaud the recent updates you have made under the most difficult circumstances, post Irma. Bravo to all of you! We look forward to many more wonderful dining experiences at Baleen and maybe even a special occasion stay over one day soon! We truly appreciate the effort you all made on such a busy day! Thank you from
The top and bottom of our hearts!!
Pricey but worth it. They don't skimp on size or alcohol content in cocktails as many restaurants/bars do with their creative concoctions. The valet staff can be better at directing guests how to get to the restaurant. Too chilly to sit outside but inside was delightful as well. The short rib was full of meat with little fat - delectable. The grilled octopus was also wonderful as were the PEI Mussels. We were all pleased with our selections - from drinks to desserts.
First visit after the major renovation. Very nice atmosphere and friendly service. A bit understaffed and had to request water, plates were not removed before next course, etc.
Business dinner and the food was excellent. The Vegan option was a hit for one of the guests.
Was super excited to experience Baleen- it has such glowing reviews. Unfortunately, it did not meet the hype. The interior has just been revamped and just fizzles for a five star restaurant. Trying for a modern, clean look, it just looks sterile and lacking opulence. The draw is the outside seating which puts you directly on the beach. The torches and flame heaters provide a cozy ambience that affords comfort in winter. The food was the biggest disappointment for us. The grouper lacked flavor, the shrimp risotto was ok, desserts look like Costco products. The waiter was way too imposing— arguing with our choices and pressuring to follow his recommendations. Not what you expect for this price point. We also ate our breakfasts in Baleen and those were definitely forgettable. If you want to experience the ambience, go for drinks and hors d’oeuvres or lunch. Those were great!
It was Christmas Day, so we can only judge the buffet menu, but I feel this also reflects the quality of the food on their regular menu. Frankly, the food quality was poor for the price. Nothing tasted extremely bad, but nothing was actually good either. Oysters and crab claws were bland and tasteless, meat cuts were tender but very dry, everything else had the same tinge of mediocrity. Absolutely not the quality of food expected at an upscale restaurant, nor worth the $105 per person buffet price. This could have been any chain restaurant buffet.
