Bakersfield Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is very nice, and has a bit of a limited menu but both our offerings were great. The only downside is that our server, the daytime bartender, had many tables to cover and was running around so much that she got behind in refilling our glasses. This is not her fault, but rather a likely result of staffing decisions made by management.
We went for Valentines Day, saw an email about the price fixe menu, lovely choices. Arrived at 7:00 and already out of oysters. Chef refused to substitute a seafood option. Had very small piece of warm Brie and a watermelon salad. Entrees were good. Waitress took our dessert order early to be sure they were available. When time for dessert came they were out of creme brûlée. Only chocolate choices, which I do not care for. Waitress offered a few others. Had a very dry key lime parfait with way too much whipped cream. Manager did comp us an after dinner drink. Waitress was lovely. Won’t go back for a while. Especially not for a special occasion.
Went with my wife for Valentines Day. We had a 5:30 reservation and they ran out of the one desert we wanted. How does that happen but not that big of a deal for us or the manager. Our waitress was awesome, and you could tell she really likes her job. We appreciate that.
Bakersfield should be the best restaurant between Oakbrook and Naperville but it's never consistant. Sometimes is amazing and other times just blah. This time it was blah other than our waitress. When it opened we loved it and went often but I think the menu has been the same for the past year so we find other options that are more worth the money.
We still love ya Bakersfield and we hope you can figure it out.
I had the burger it tasted amazing - popcorn shrimp was good too. Tried wife’s salad it was okay... I definitely would order the burger again. I wish they had more of the dinner menu on Sunday afternoon-given the grill concept interested in have the pork chop or chicken...next time
Was sat in the bar area which is lighted by a horrible florescent fixture that blinded my colleague so much that she had to change seats. Ruined an otherwise good experience though the service was slow due to an employee appreciation party that was happening later.
As always, Bakersfield is solid. Sarah was excellent. We were there for Friday lunch on a cold day. Good crowd. Sat in quiet booth by bar. We had the salmon (really good) and the grilled cheese. First time with grilled cheese and it was a good option. But always safe to get the burger which I will get at my next visit. We look forward to returning.
We normally really like Bakersfield, and will go back. This was New Year's Eve, and the shortened menu was understandable, but odd. No appetizers, presumably to keep the tables turning.
We had a diner with dietary restrictions and the waitress did not express any confidence about even getting information about what was possible, and essentially said "no substitutions" such as swapping a cheese on the salad for one that was elsewhere on the menu, though the cheese could be omitted??
She also left the table with two options to explore to meet the requirements, and when the first one couldn't be accomplished, she came back to ask, "what was the second option again?".
Ultimately, the chef came to the table and managed to solve the issue, but it shouldn't have been necessary, or it should have been the first action in response.
There was also blank confusion when asked for available single-malt scotches.
Ideally, this was a one-time problem, and we will be back for another try.
The food was very good.
Took all of the grandparents there after a night at the Morten arboretum. They all cannot stop raving about how perfect it was. IMO, everything was very good (but not quite outstanding), something on the fairly wide ranging menu for everybody and a decent draft selection. If I needed a place for a client dinner out that way I’d for sure revisit Bakersfield
We have eaten at Bakersfield many times but tonight was not a typical night at this restaurant. We were seated ( for 5 people) at a table for 8. Once they realized it was for 5 not 6 people, they squished us in a table for 4 and did not bring a 5th chair. Then we ordered a couple appetizers which were fine. Our salad and dinner came out at the same time. Since our table was already crowded, we had to hold the salad in our lab to eat. This is usually a very good restaurant. Tonight they were not at their best.
We've been to Bakersfield a few times for slightly special occasions and it has been a wonderful experience every time. The food is great with a nice variety of choices without being overwhelming. Great wine selection but you can also bring your own for a corkage fee or if you get it from Standard Market across the street, the corkage fee is waved. Quiet, classy ambiance and the service was impeccable. Would highly recommend and we'll definitely be back.
Once in a great while I have had a superior restaurant experience. Bakersfield qualified as exceptional. The food was terrific - and when I asked our server about a sauce used in one dish, the chef came out with the recipe written out for me! Our server was totally on the ball and very attentive. And the food---the food was out of this world. I love seafood and it was better than many other highly-rated restaurants. And they also served Poke - the Hawaiian fish salad dish that was fabulous. Highly recommended for anyone in the Western Suburbs. We will go back as often as we can.
Disappointed. Have been coming here since the opening. The menu has not evolved, the portions have gotten smaller and the prices are high for what you get. $16 for a salad that could be split in half for lunch the next day is fine but this is no longer the case. The brinded pork chop that had a great presentation in the past is now salty and half the size. $50 for a bottle of wine that could be bought for $19 is the icing on the cake. I think serious revamp needs to be considered because Bakersfield has taken a dive
