Bakersfield - Pittsburgh
Serving up authentic, Mexican street fare, and a selection of over 100 tequilas and American whiskeys. Bakersfield is a spot where the food is simple, the service is warm, and the atmosphere is alive.
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal at Bakersfield before our show. Tried several different tacos, each one delicious and perfectly spiced. The cauliflower side is a must. The waiter made recommendations and he was dead on. Everything he said we'd like, we loved. Will go back.
Thank you so much for the review! We are glad you enjoyed yourselves, and hope you come back soon! -Josh Vasko, Service Manager.
Always a delicious and fun experience at Bakersfield! Love the tacos and the margaritas aren’t too shabby either! Can’t wait to go back!
Excellent food and excellent service!
Service was very slow. It took 20 minutes before a server even approached our table initially - and we had to ask to even get that. We had to place a replacement drink order directly with the bar tender as our server was nowhere to be found. The food was mediocre at best. Sadly, this was a business meeting and all left disappointed. Will not be back.
First time and would recommend this to all of my friends
First time at Bakersfield. The food was delicious but the portions were small. We tried the fish taco, pulled pork taco and chicken taco. All were different and had pops of various flavors. I don't eat gluten and the corn tortillas are made inhouse and were great! They have a separate gluten free menu (ask for it while there), that has a good variety of items on it. We also ate chips and salsa and the verde salsa was amazing. The best value of the night was the happy hour special: $3 tequila shots. The staff was friendly and the food came out fast. Overall, a great experience!
We originally had reservation for a table they sat us between a bunch of chatty Kathy's so we chose the bar we loved our bar tender 100%
Jon was an amazing server! He truly is the best that we have ever had, and we come here bi weekly!
We were there for my sons birthday. Had a wonderful time. Food was great , and our waitress was outstanding, she went above and beyond! Thanks.
The food was so flavorful. Best queso I've had, and the Baja shrimp tacos are amazing. Our waitress, Alex, was fantastic...informative, friendly, and attentive in just the right amount.
I have been to Bakersfield for lunch on numerous occasions and was never disappointed. Yesterday was an exception. The server's attitude was bleh and she was not attentive. We had to ask for silverware and straws/sweetners for our tea. The food took an unusually long time to arrive. We both had a Johnny salad and one taco, so not quite sure why there was such a long wait. I will give Bakersfield another try because I like their food but if the service is similar to what I experienced yesterday, I will not be back.
The place is extremely loud! It was also extremely busy so the server was running, however he never came back to fill waters or ask if we wanted another drink. The tacos were good if you like upscale mexican. This will be a one and done for us, but others seemed to like it so I would recommend to certain people only.
Great service and food! The place was very loud, though. I felt like I was shouting at the people I was with the entire time, and it made conversation more difficult.
Excellent food, excellent service, and fun atmosphere. I will definitely go back to this restaurant and highly recommend it!
Thanks for the shout out Suzie! -Josh Vasko, Service Manager.
Highly recommend the pineapple margarita! The food was amazing and the service was even better!! We just went for a simple dinner and had a blast
I was so excited to visit Bakersfield. The menu had so many great options and the environment looked so inviting. My experience was totally neutral - not great and not horrible. We started our meal off with the nachos and salsa. Though I thought the nachos were fine, the other three members of the party said they were excessively salty. We ordered cauliflower and corn salsa as sides. Both were very tasty. All members of our party ordered tacos. The size of them was shockingly small. They were appetizer sized. If the menu had alerted us to the size of the tacos, we might have ordered differently. The food was good, but nothing exceptional. Considering that I just visited another local restaurant and had delicious tacos (that were over-sized) for the same price as these small ones, I can't imagine why I would visit this restaurant again.
Great dinner with excellent service. We will certainly go back.
We love it here! Always fun and the food is great!
Grace is always attentive (and tolerant of our rowdiness!)
Love everything about Bakersfield (except that I don’t get to eat there everyday...or maybe I’ll just move into the basement)
Thank you so much for the shout out, I will be sure to pass this on to Grace! We look forward to your next visit! -Josh Vasko, Service Manager
Thanks for the shout out Tejas, We ar proud of our tacos and are glad they hit the spot! -Josh Vasko, Service Manager.
Bakersfield is one of our favorite Pittsburgh dining destinations! The food and margaritas are amazing!! Only negative is how loud the upstairs is! It’s hard to have a normal convo without screaming to each other! But otherwise we LOVE it!
We had reservations and were greeted by very friendly hostesses. The noise level was pretty loud so I asked if we could be seated somewhere that wasn’t so loud. I was told that all those places were already filled by people who made reservations. We were seated promptly. I commented on the noise level and was told they could turn the music down. At that point I hadn’t known music was playing. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was good. This is a place better suited for the younger crowd into the bar scene and not out for dinner where you want to have any discussions. Not for us.
The tacos were 3-4 bites each - smaller than expected, but still good. We wanted a dessert - but they don't offer any!!
Stellar spot. Make sure to order the salsa/guac trio. You can't go wrong with any of tacos, and they're small enough for you to try several different styles. Make sure you get a reservation, we saw quite a few people turned away at lunchtime. It's loud, so don't plan on having any important or intimate conversations.
Great gathering place. The guacamole and short rib queso are amazing! Try to save room for a short rib taco or fish taco. Both are so delicious. We return VERY soon. So good!
Great food as always!
I hate it when I have to scream across a 2-top table to someone in order for them to hear me. I don't mind loud music, but when it impacts what i am there to do -eat and talk to friends, i have a problem with it. The food was okay, nothing special but the servers were GREAT! If someone invites me to go there again I will, but i will never choose that as a destination.
Had a 1PM reservation for 4 of us. We were seated quickly and since the other 3 girls had never been here before our waitress ran through the menu and how to order, which was helpful for them! The service was a little slow, for it being the afternoon, but I have noticed it is also slow once they are super busy. I like the tacos here because there really isn't any "fluff", just simple ingredients that work together and taste amazing! The house margarita also NEVER disappoints along with the house guac.
Great tacos — full of flavors and textures. Server was very knowledgeable. Already made reservations for the next time I’m in the Cultural District!
Good place to hang out for drinks and food. Don't expect too much from food but they have some nice food items on their menu that well with drinks.
Food was very good and pretty well priced. Really good margartias (I highly recommend the pineapple) and great service. We will definitely be going back!
Great service. Excellent food. Enjoyable evening with another couple who had never been
Best place to eat in downtown Pittsburgh! Would recommend this spot to everyone!
The best tacos and margaritas! We will be back, our server Noah was delightful!
I did my homework and read the reviews beforehand..Bakersfield came highly recommended ( looking to eat pre-show at TAO and one reviewer said Bakersfield was better..so off to Bakersfield we go, never having heard of the restaurant). Maybe I’m not a Mexican food connoisseur..I don’t think I can give a fair review of menu items I haven’t nor would try..tacos and chips and queso were good..the fish taco though had way too fishy of a taste..Baja shrimp were good. I ordered one Margarita and couldn’t finish it..very good but strong so I don’t know how 2 people can do a whole pitcher of Margaritas. Lol Our waitress was in training..I think a little overzealous with getting us to order..I like to have a drink and app and relax a bit first and the water I ordered ( a must with tacos and queso) never came). Will I go back? Probably not..on a quest to try lots of different restaurants with different foods pre-show. But I liked the atmosphere.
We went for brunch around 11:30. We were the first table on a Sunday, which is a bit surprising. The tacos we ordered were excellent, especially the fish and shrimp tacos. The table we sat on wasn’t clean and there crumbs of food here and there. Our waitress was very nice.
Great food. Great atmosphere. And all for a relatively good price.
Great place! Good food, margaritas and service. Loud, but a fun vibe. I'll be back.
Delicious food, best queso I've had! Staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Can't wait to go again!
