Bakersfield - Mass Ave
Great food great drinks - can be loud at times but SO worthwhile. Loved it and would go back again
What a lovely place. The service was incredible. The food was amazing. We got the trio of guacamole and salsas. Very nice salsas. And the guacamole was spot on. Anymore these days, the guacamole in restaurants is seriously lacking in flavor, and Bakersfield isn't one of those lacking restaurants. Quite thankful for that. The tacos were scrumptious and the margaritas were amazing. We will be back to Bakersfield for more goodness.
Incredible!!! THe food is AMAZING! Everything is fresh and made to order. I highly recommend the short rib tacos! My absolute FAVORITE place to eat. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable .
Great service. Great food! First time using open table saved me a 30 minute wait.
The food was good. It tasted fresh and unique. The fresca margarita's was fabulous . The price was a little steep but my biggest issue was a large group of people standing around waiting for a table right next to where we was seated. They was constantly bumping into me and the wait staff was constantly trying to get between us sitting at our table and this group so it was hard for my wife and I to relax and enjoy our food and have a conversation.
Overall, the experience was really great. Would definitely come again. Their guac was amazing and I recommend the shrimp tacos. Only negative was a birthday party group was seated next to us and at times I couldn’t hear what my husband was saying due to them talking over each other/almost shouting when talking. Not sure if they have a party room but that would be a good idea to help a little with noise control! We made a reservation and due to traffic heading downtown/crazy rain we were caught in, we were about 10 minutes late to our time. However, they held our table and seated us right away when we got there which I definitely appreciate! Service was great, our food came out fast, and it was really good!
Had a great evening at Bakersfield. The margaritas were outstanding as well as the tacos. Eric, our server, was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Indy.
Too expensive for just a little taco. Service was fast and waitress helpful.
Good per usual! Will be back soon.
Really good place to eat! Had really good tacos, and the wait was worth it!
I would recommend Bakersfield. The food was excellent but the table was not. We were trying to eat our food and about 6 inches away from us were people waiting for a table. We were pretty much sitting at the hostess stand. That was the only downfall to the dining experience.
It was great
Good food and good ambiance. Mostly a young hip crowd on a Saturday night. The place was packed! A/C had a hard time keeping up and it was HOT! Felt like I was really in Mexico!
Best guacamole in the city! Food was good, but the service was slower than usual. Also, they no longer have straws, which I found disappointing. We will be back, and I’ll pack my own straw.
Robin, I'm very sorry we were out of straws on your last visit! We are currently transiting to another product so next time you're in we will have straws for you upon request! See ya back soon!
great food, reminds me of California tacos - service was great - very noisy in the basement but we enjoyed ourselves
I reserved a table here before attending a concert, and as soon as we got there (we were 15 minutes early) our table was already ready for us!!! :) The staff was positive and friendly even though it was crazy busy and the food was DELICIOUS! :) I got the shrimp tacos, which I highly recommend! We also got the chips, salsa and queso appetizer. I loved the queso!! There were 2 salsas, one was a tomatillos salsa and the other was like a smokey salsa. They were alright, but if you don't like tomatillos or smokey flavored things I wouldn't recommend them.
My only critique would be the amount of salt on the margaritas! hahaha The margaritas come in mason jars without a straw, so you have to take a sip with the salt rim. it wasn't bad after a few sips, but wooooo! There was a lot of salt. Other than that, it was a great experience!!
Leanne, Thanks for the love! See ya again soon!
Way too hot in there
We made reservations via Open Table for 4 at 6:30 on a Monday and had no issue getting in. We dropped off the girls to find a parking space and they were asked if they preferred to be upstairs, on the patio, or in the basement. The girls replied upstairs, which apparently is simply the ground floor where you enter as they seated us at a picnic style table against the wall to the left of the entrance.
We split 2 chip-themed appetizers with their Queso ($6) and Trio ($10) that included guac, salsa verde, and a red chipotle salsa. The queso came in what looked like a small iron skillet and reminded me in taste of a fondue. The verde was one of the better ones I have had with a spicy kick. I'm not a huge fan of smoky salsas as the chipotle was, although the other couple with us loved it. The guac was good and chunky, not amazing but not bad.
My wife and I ordered fish ($4 each) and shrimp ($4 each) tacos along with the hongos (mushroom) tostadas (3 for $7). The tacos are displayed nicely, but are not much more than 3 bites in size. Each comes in a single corn tortilla. My wife is not usually a fan of these, but these were a success due to their flavor not being overwhelming yet being sturdy enough to not tear apart. Both the shrimp and the fish come breaded, you could possibly ask for grilled, but I didn't think to do so. The fish was good, but I liked the shrimp better. To be honest, I probably prefer the shrimp and fish tacos at Chuy's, but they both tasted good. My wife loved the mushroom mixture on the tostada, but we both thought the shells it came on was lacking in texture and flavor. Would have preferred them as taquitos or even tacos.
The other 3 in my group split a pitcher of their margarita and seemed to think highly of it. Our server Brittany was attentive without being pushy. She was good at answering our questions.
In the end, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back, but it wouldn't be my first choice. The others in my group probably feel more fondly of it
We had reservations, but were sat 20 minutes late. Other than that, the food was reasonably priced and absolutely delicious! The wait staff was great and timely. If you are looking for a new place to go on Mass Ave... TRY BAKERSFIELD!
Bakersfield is an ok hangout spot if you are wanting to have a couple of drinks with friends and maybe share some appetizers, but bring your wallet. For what you get, the prices are pretty high.
We went later at night and the crowd had died down a bit. Sat outside. It was a great seating area and the food was amazing. I highly recommend the Pineapple Margarita! The service was great!
Thanks for the awesome review Karrie! Can't wait to have you back in!!
Wonderful as usual!
The salsa verde and guacamole is great. Also, I loved the chicken taquitos. Beautiful setting!
The basement area was SO loud! Only negative of our visit. You can’t hear the person next to you.
The food was great. We had an open table but when we arrived they did not have a saved spot for us. They ended up putting us in the basement.
I come to Bakersfield a lot and tonight was rough. It took a long time to get a table even with a reservation, a longer time to order drinks, and the longest time to get our drinks. The table behind us sat down significantly after us and had their drinks before us. The restaurant ended up comping the drinks which was nice, but still didn’t expect such poor service from one of my usual haunts.
An ABSOLUTE must on Mass Ave. Great food, great drinks, cozy atmosphere.
Bakersfield is a fun and lively spot on mass ave. The tacos are amazing! And they have perfected the margarita.
Food was fantastic! Server was great! Very enjoyable meal.
Always delicious & never disappoints! Great service too!
Not as good as it used to be. Food wasn’t nearly as flavorful, no salsas brought out like before and the margaritas tasted like they were from a mix. They used to be so fresh and good, not this time.
Everything was great, with the exception of being seated in the basement. With reservations, we should have been seated on the main floor where the ambiance was much better.
This place was great!!! Super friendly and helpful staff! The tacos are phenomenal as is the guacamole. Even their margarita as fresh and delicious!!! We tried to go back again during our 3 day trip, but they were all booked up.
We had a great time celebrating a birthday!
We had a 5 p.m. reservation for four because our show at the Murat had a 7:30 start. We're glad we did because we were able to get through drinks, appetizer and tacos in plenty of time. Our server, Patrick, did a nice job explaining our options. We tried six or seven types of tacos and all of them were good. The prices were reasonable. I can understand why this is a favorite spot for many folks in Indianapolis.
The food and service was great!!!
It would have been a perfect 5 star had we got seated closer to our reservation. We waited 35 minutes from when the reservation was made to get seated. The manager did however comp us some appetizers for our wait which was appreciated.
Short Rib Queso is to die for! Spicy margaritas & Tacos=NomNom!
We were running a little late for an event we were heading to, and the servers made all attempts to accommodate our need for speed. It was much appreciated, and we made our event! The food was rather bland, but the drinks were right on time! We have been to the restaurant before, and it was right where we remembered...pretty good, but nothing out of ordinary is how I would sum it up.
