The food was extraordinary. The lamb belly is on of the best I have ever tried.
My wife and I have been loyal fans of Baco Mercat for many years, celebrating special occasions there and bringing friends from out of town to experience the unique and delicious menu. We even went to the short lived Baco outpost in Culver City, Baco Shop, a number of times before it closed. One of our favorite dishes on the Baco menu had been the ricotta fritters with honey. A great dish, so we were sorry when it was discontinued on our last couple of visits. But we were delighted to see it resurface as part of the Baco dinner menu for Dine Out LA, along with many of our other favorites. So we booked a reservation and planned an outing to downtown LA around it, which is a long way and not that convenient from where we live in Santa Monica. Upon arriving at Baco we were given the Dine Out menu which was totally different than the one that had been posted online, and continues to be posted. No ricotta fritters, no fava bean baco sandwich, no eggplant dip, or other items we were so looking forward to. When we pointed out to the hostess that this is not the menu online she kind of shrugged and said well it changes. That is not accurate according to what is still posted. I mean, how hard it is to post what your serving? There is no excuse for that. It is false advertising and disrespectful of customers, especially longtime loyal one like us. It was a big disappointment and put a damper on a day we were excited about. Had we known we would have made other plans. What Baco did is totally unprofessional and inexcusable, especially from a restaurant we loved.
AMAZING! I love this place with all my heart! The food is incredible, great atmosphere, waiters are lovely, and great management!
Service was amazing food was delicious! Will come back
Only problem: seating. Although we had a reservation for a party of 4, when we arrived the only table available that would seat four was a high-top table for 6 (awkward!) and near the front door (chilly and many interruptions), which opened directly into the cold night air on a busy city street.
We tried the dineLA menu as well as things we’ve never had before. Amazing experience.
As always ... great food, wonderful service and the best cocktails!
Really incredible food. All the layers of flavors in each dish were amazing. We especially loved the crudo!
We were 4 people, each with different food requests, our server and the kitchen accommodated us beautifully. Will be back with enthusiasm.
We went to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and we thoroughly regret it. To be fair, we've been to Baco before and have had wonderful food and experiences. But not today.
From the second we sat down, everything felt rushed. People constantly came by to check on us, as if hinting at "you done? we need you to go so we can fill the table again."
Also, much to our surprise, the food was blah. We've had great food before but not sure what happened.
All in all, given the moment (10 year anniversary) and the poor experience, I believe they have now lost our business. We will not return.
It was good. The entre was cold when served but it was good.
Overall our experience tonight was very good. The service, though, is what made our evening truly enjoyable. My partner and I went out for dinner with our newborn, and so going out tonight was a luxury for us. We we’re warmly welcomed and graciously taken care of by our server Adam and the staff. Taken care of, and attended to without hovering over the table. The host was so sweet and she sent us the pork hand-torn pasta: a savory, rustic pasta that definitely screams comfort especially in these winter months. We enjoyed the Hamachi Crudo very much, the hummus was good (but the portion was minuscule). The blistered okra were alright and we weren’t super impressed. I loved the pork ribs, but my partner thought they were a little too spicy. We also had the boco (naan sandwich) with the cabbage slaw and fried shrimp - this was the best dish of the night. Although we didn’t love everything as far as food goes, and the portions were steep for the prices, the service is really what set this place apart. Thank you for a great dining experience! We will be back.
Excellent food. Everyone was friendly. The service was a little slow.
Food was delicious.
Great food, vibe and service. Food is served family style and works great when you have several people dining with you. I highly recommend this restaurant 👍🏻
The food is spectacular... if you live exotic spices and great combinations. Staff most helpful and attentive.
Decor ok, seats are wooden and very hard. Noise level tolerable.
I come as often as I can
Consistently great food. Worth the drive even if you don't live near downtown. Chill ambiance with relaxed but knowledgeable service.
Food was good, but 16$ for 2 cups of cauliflower just feels like a rip off. I must say tho other items on the menu were worth the cost.
One other thing was the chairs were extremely uncomfortable, but maybe this is a way they keep turnover quick.
Good food good wine and good service!
I have been to Baco Mercat on multiple occasions and have ALWAYS had a superb experience. Until this time. We arrived a bit early for our reservation so we had a seat at the bar. The bartender was busy. In fact, every time I have been to this restaurant the bartender was busy. In the past, this never stopped the bartender from being gracious or providing excellent service. On this night, the bartender seemed bothered to have to take our drink and appetizer order. As she worked making drinks, I noticed that the bartender avoided eye contact with anyone sitting at the bar. The group sitting at the bar next to us went completely ignored despite several attempts to get the bartenders attention. The bartender was clearly unhappy.
When we were moved to our table, everything changed. As I was more accustomed to, the servers were friendly, engaged and fun. The food was very good (El Pesco Baco! Angiolini pasta! Pear Salad! YAY!!) except the pork collar was tough (tasty but tough) and I would not recommend it.
So, while I would still recommend Baco to anyone wanting a great meal out, I left this evening slightly disappointed. Still, I will be back for the BACO!!
Food was very flavorful & unique
Love the spices and food combinations...can’t wait to come back
This place is great for friends/date night or small group gatherings! I stared off with happy hour (ends at 7) at the bar and got the A is for apples cocktail and baco bread with Lebni dip (the bread was so gooood). I then sat with my friends and we ordered Caeser Brussels sprouts, caramalized cauliflower, hand torn pasta with pork sugo and mozzarella coco- flatbread! Also managed to have room for dessert and ordered olive oil cake and a churro dish. Everything was amazing! I will definitely return to try other things! There's a paid lot next door for $10 on Saturdays.
I loved the vibe and ambience. The drinks and apps were stellar. I really appreciated the fact that the nonalcoholic drinks were just as delicious as the alcoholic drinks, if not more so! And the entrees were great. I had the oxtail Bäco and now I want it everyday. It’s a great place for veg and meat eaters alike.
Met up with friends early afternoon on a Sunday. Food very fresh and delicious, conducive to sharing plates and trying many dishes. Excellent service. Really liked it.
Server was great. But waiting over half an hour for a reservation is a bit much.
Great food, good service. But proportions were small for the price. I loved the taste of the abolone but there were only a few pieces in a full priced entree.
As always, delicious food and a great environment for sharing a meal with good friends
One of the best meals I’ve had in LA since I moved here 18 months ago.
Great veggies. Excellent & interesting wine list. Knowledgeable waitstaff. Walkable from Redline.
Best restaurant in Los Angeles in my opinion. We mainly ordered many small plates: salads, appetizers, vegetables, and then dessert. Everything was delicious and the variety was wonderful. I especially recommend the stuffed zucchini flowers, the green salad, and the pasta.
Love this place! It's so charming. The food is fresh and nourishing, and the staff is so friendly and kind. A DTLA gem.
Great food and service! Highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!
Phenomenal as always!
Food was delicious! Nice relaxed environment in DTLA. Service could have been better, took a while to get our cocktails and staff was just okay, not super friendly or talkative.
Good ambiance nice for friends gathering. I went there for lunch, very short list of lunch menu, not much choices, I order shrimp sandwich which tasted good, not my friend's chicken sandwich it is too salty.
This i my favorite restaurant downtown. The things they do with vegetables are amazing!
Superb flavor across the board! Came here as a vegan and had plenty to enjoy on the menu with small modifications. Adventurous cocktails as well. Excellent service at the bar. A+
Incredibly delicious food!!! The service was very friendly and helpful, but never too intrusive. Charming environment/decor.
Very tasty and delicious Spanish Mediterranean cuisine served in a laid back Euro cafe ambiance! We started with the
ZA'ATAR + FAVA + EGGPLANT DIP with puff bread followed by a Beet salad. I had the BAZOLE soup which was amazing. My sister had the TURKISH LOVE flat bread (COCA) with
lamb ragout, tomato, feta, burrata, basil, curry lemon. Ended our wonderful lunch with a truly sweet but light ending - coconut tapioca pudding! All of this served by a friendly staff! Will definitely be back!
