Backwoods Brewing Company
Was visiting the Portland area and looking for a place for dinner with 6 people with a variety of food preferences (vegetarians, picky eaters, etc). Backwoods was a huge hit, everyone loved their meal and the staff was wonderful. Only challenge was just picking just 1 item for dinner. Will need to return to try my other top choices. Thank you for a fantastic meal!!
I had a very enjoyable afternoon and great service at Backwoods. Some really interesting beers on the list. I loved the s'mores porter!
We had a party of 9 sit down for dinner and had 2 separate checks. The service was amazing and food was even better. We asked the bar if they could turn on the St. Louis Blues game and they tried their best and brought over the channel guide. Although, they didn’t have the channel they did all they could to help us find it. Awesome people! Thank you!
Food wasn’t prepared correctly. Asked them to fix it but they just brought me a plate with the missing items after my meal already had a chance to get cold. Paid salad upgrade was very small. Burger patty was very thin and well done instead of medium as ordered. Server was very nice. Seemed like she had too many tables. Had to flag people down for help. Beers were fantastic. Got a $3 discount for their mistake, but wasn’t enough for me to want to return.
My only complaint is there was only 2 bathrooms for the entire place.
Convenient location. Food was ok. Was disappointed with Mushroom Swiss Burger. Not as many mushrooms or onions as described on menu. The food server had extremely long hair which was not tied back/no hat.
We will have more parties here. The service was very good.
Staff was really nice. Kale salad was really good! Live music on the night we were there hit the perfect tone of good music, not too loud. Enjoyed the music and dinner conversation.
This was our first time at Backwoods Brewing Company. We were taking advantage of a 15% discount as they are a preferred partner to Portland Center Stage and we were attending a play later that afternoon. I must say my wife and I were both surprised by the service and the food. Our server was prompt and courteous. The sample of beers we requested were brought quickly and without hesitation. Speaking of the beer, several very good dark beers on tap if that is your thing. The place was not overly busy since we were there right at opening but was pretty full when we left. We were also surprised at the low noise level. Our experience in Portland in most restaurants we visit is the noise level is pretty extreme given the high ceilings, hard surfaces, music blasting which then means diners are practically yelling to have a conversation. Thankfully this was not the case at Backwoods. Music was nice and unobtrusive creating an atmosphere conducive to quiet conversation. Finally, the food was excellent. Very flavorful. We shared a burger and tots which they were glad to split for us without extra charge. Really, one of the best burgers we have had in Portland and actually cooked medium rare as requested. The tots were also excellent. Very crunchy and not a bit of greasiness. We will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes on the menu. I think this is our new go to dining location prior to attending matinee shows at the Armory.
Very good hamburger, friendly service, good prices.
Went for my sister's birthday with a large group. Our server was spot on and attentive. Food was decent but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a decent choice.
Great pub food and selection of beer. There are sports events playing, but even so, we could have a conversation without screaming. We will definitely go back!
Inattentive service with mediocre food quality—so many better options in The Pearl; skip this place.
I highly recommend this place. It is great competition to Deschutes Brewery across the street. You may never go back once you eat here.
Great service and appreciated saving table for 7 for us.
We were placed in the back room, quiet, Next time we come we want a window view in the main room. All great!
If you want a brew pub in the pearl that isn't Deschutes, this Ian a good one. Good menu, friendly service.
Just another brew pub. And, probably good for what it is. We were looking for a quick dinner before a play and it just serves pub food. Our nacho plate was pretty greasy. The salad was very good, though.
Great place in The Pearl, beer and food are yummy!! Relaxed atmosphere
First time there. Nice place, food, beer, and staff.
I ordered the chicken sandwich which is on their "favorites" list and is a popular item according to the waitress. I can see why it's a favorite! The chicken was super tender and the sandwich was so yummy. My husband ordered a wrap and really liked it, too. The waitress was also very sweet and attentive. We'd definitely go back!
Service, atmosphere and food are outstanding! We have been several time before events in the area. They take reservations and we have enjoyed the food and beer so much that it is now my “go to” restaurant in the Pearl.
Loved it... Great fun....cool vibe....wonderful for people watching!!! Glad we had reservations!!! We will be back!!!!
Connection to Open Table did not work - so they lost our reservation for a holiday Saturday night. Will not return - this place is a disaster
Beers were good. Chicken wings not so much. Salmon dip was tasty.
Great service, great food and nice selection of beer! I’ll definitely be back soon!
What a nice atmosphere – great music, not too loud. Very friendly welcome and service. Food was very good. We plan to return.
Awesome just awesome
We ate at Backwoods before heading off to the theater at Portland Center Stage. It was our first experience at this brewery and we were pleased that we could reserve a table. The food was outstanding and service attentive. We usually eat at one of the larger brew pubs within walking distance to the theater as one of our companions is burger fiend. The Backwoods is quieter and more intimate and again, we could reserve a table. We will return soon. Two of us shared the chicken burger -- and added the small ceasar salad -- small is not the word I would use to describe the delicious rendition of the ceasar. It fed three of us as a side dish. The only negative was that the chicken sandwich was a bit messy -- so would in the future just know that I needed to eat it with a knife and fork --- delicious.
Best burgers! Great beer. A good please to take the family for a casual meal.
Great food with a solid menu. Kid friendly atmosphere. Did I mention an awesome beer selection.
The beer was good but the food needs an improvement.
Really enjoy coming to this place when I come into Portland. Good beers, cool atmosphere, and good service.
1. great tots
2. great beer
3. great old fashioned
First time out in Portland. One of the first breweries we chose. Food was good, beer was good, but the service could have been better especially since it was not too busy when we there. We would go back.
Lively brew pub. Contemporary decor. Delicious comfort food. Good selection of brews and other adult beverages. Attentive service. Recommend a reservation as the place is popular, i.e., packed with 20-30 minute wait for a table without one.
