Backstreet Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Valentines Day. Horrible service. You have to be prepared on an evening like this. Asked to speak to the owner, she never came out. We asked for indoor seating, we were seated outdoor. And for a heater, THREE TIMES before we finally got. Our reservations were for 6:30 and we were finally served at 8:15. Talked to the owner when we left and she was not APOLOGETIC nor did she give excuses.
This was our first time at Backstreet Bistro. We made a reservation for a party of 5 @ 6:30. We waited abt 10-15 min to be seated. It was a very busy sat night. Once seated It took 20 min just to get someone to take our drink order. And another 10-15 min to get the drinks. When drinks came we ordered our food which took abt 45min to an hour to get. The food was delicious but the service was terrible. The manager/owner who was very nice apologized without offering an explanation or even offering to comp desserts.
Horrible experience. Our table was given to another group. We stood in Line for 30 mins with no available outdoor table. Finally went inside for a drink....no server came for another 20 mins. We had to ask a number of times for service and even just napkins. Our food was delivered eventually but it was lukewarm at best and just passable. By then we were so hungry we ate regardless. We should have walked out.
A local store owner recommended this spot to us and her raves led us to try it out. So happy we followed her advice and will certainly return. Eggplant parmigiana was light and luscious; shrimp scampi wonderful with capers and lemons. Desserts just as good. Definitely recommend!
The hostess was rude. She said we "should have called her instead of using OpenTable". We had to ask four separate people to light the candle on the table so we could see the menu. The waitress never offered any specials and was very rushed. There was no way to get any questions answered by anyone. Either they are short staffed or not trained very well. My food was satisfying , my husbands was barely warm.
Another great meal, friendly and competent staff and welcoming owner. What more could a person ask for? We have been waiting for Backstreet Cafe to open for the seasons since it is one of most favorite neighborhood dining establishments in Palm Desert.
We sat outside at a quiet table. We split a ceasar salad which was good. I had veal picata which was delicious, my husband had salmon special which was also very good. Both dishes came with fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. I would go back to this restaurant.
Coconut shrimp appetizer was excellent. The crab cakes are described on the menu as being topped with "secret sauce". We should have asked for details; the cakes came covered with a bell pepper sauce which, in my opinion, did not compliment the cakes. Our group selected chicken piccata (very good), veal parmigiano (very good), veal saltimbocca (very good) and Grandma Pat's veal scaloppini. The scaloppini was well prepared but too sweet for my liking. I'll order the veal saltimbocca next time.
We dined on the patio and found it too dark to read the menu.
Service was good and we had a good evening......thank you.
Food is always good except I wish they’d read their menu. They always serve the shrimp scampi with angel hair when the menu says linguine. Obviously, I prefer linguine! Very large prawns. Generous portions. Well seasoned. Fried zucchini to start was light and crisp. Nice.
