Backstreet Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We sat outside at a quiet table. We split a ceasar salad which was good. I had veal picata which was delicious, my husband had salmon special which was also very good. Both dishes came with fresh vegetables cooked to perfection. I would go back to this restaurant.
Coconut shrimp appetizer was excellent. The crab cakes are described on the menu as being topped with "secret sauce". We should have asked for details; the cakes came covered with a bell pepper sauce which, in my opinion, did not compliment the cakes. Our group selected chicken piccata (very good), veal parmigiano (very good), veal saltimbocca (very good) and Grandma Pat's veal scaloppini. The scaloppini was well prepared but too sweet for my liking. I'll order the veal saltimbocca next time.
We dined on the patio and found it too dark to read the menu.
Service was good and we had a good evening......thank you.
Food is always good except I wish they’d read their menu. They always serve the shrimp scampi with angel hair when the menu says linguine. Obviously, I prefer linguine! Very large prawns. Generous portions. Well seasoned. Fried zucchini to start was light and crisp. Nice.
Went to Sunday brunch here and sat outside on the patio; so cute!!! Loved the atmosphere and the food was good. Our sever was very nice and attentive but not overly so. The only thing I do not recommend are the mimosas; not sure what kind of bubbly/OJ they use but I would stick with a Bloody Mary here or ask for a specific champagne (hence the 4 on the food).
Perfectly prepared salmon special of the evening was excellent. It was our waiters strong suggestion and I’m glad I took his advise. He provided attentive and professional service. We sat on the patio which was very casual and nice to be outside as an option. The patio could use an update of furniture and decor. We will be back again.
We decided to drive to Palm Desert for the great shopping and remembered the Backstreet Bistro from a prior visit. It has a lovely courtyard for outside dining; the food is varied and absolutely delicious; and the service was perfect. Definitely try it for lunch or dinner.
Dinner is Italian not bistro or anything else. If you like sweet gravy/sauce this might be the place for you. Two wait staff for about 15 occupied tables, service was terrible. Food came out lukewarm when asked for very hot. Took one hour from order to get our food. Table of six and one bread basket, when asked for more bread told to take the piece out of the basket, and then they brought more about 15 minutes later. Bolagnase was tough and dry. Bill had a salad on it not ordered and reluctantly removed from the bill. If you want truly good Italian this is not the place to look. Other excellent options in the valley without spending your money here.
I had written a negative review about a year ago about this restaurant. We had always loved the place and enjoyed the food but after our one bad experience, we waited awhile to try it again. This year we started going again and we are sure glad we did.
The owner is extremely nice to everyone and we have gotten to know her and find her to be very pleasant. The food is outstanding and the prices are reasonable. They offer great happy hour plates and an early dinner special.
Please ignore my past review and give this place a visit. I am sure you will love it. I guess everyone has a bad day and last New Year's Eve must have been that day.
Another thing is that this place has that "local" feel to it. The owner and staff remember you and go out of their way acknowledge you.
We had a good evening at Backstreet Bistro. Garden salad was good but only got a thimble full of dressing on the side. I asked for a little more and got more than I needed. Caesar salad was well made and they even gave us extra anchovies on top. We ordered the eggplant parmigiana which was a large portion and delicious. My veal marsala was also delicious. I was hoping for a side of pasta but it came with mashed potatoes that tasted like it was flavored with bacon grease instead of butter. Couldn’t eat it. Overall the meal was good and the setting outside is nice. I would recommend it.
Very small and quaint inside. Patio would have been better, but due to the heat we were indoors. Service was a bit slow, since not to many people were dining. Once we got our
food it was delicious, and the bread was warm and very good. Will go again and try a
different dish I'm sure there all good.
Our server (Marie) was great! She went out of her way to offer suggestions from the menu, which were perfect for our appetites that evening and she was warm, friendly and accommodating. The food was good with big portions and the patio was comfortable. We will return!
