This restaurant is permanently closed. Backstage, located next to the Warner Theatre in downtown Torrington, serves casual American food from Chef Stephen Sarlo's full "all-day" menu, prepared fresh from scratch. Service begins daily at 11:30am, and the kitchen stays open late on Warner Theatre performance evenings for after-theatre dining.

Select from crisp salads and hot soups, creative Small Plates, Famous Burgers of Certified Angus patties on house-baked rolls, popular Sandwiches, and Big Plate comfort favorites. House-made desserts are a specialty.

The antique mahogany bar soars 14 feet above the trendy zinc counter, and presides over northwest Connecticut's largest offering of craft-brewed beers. 40 brands are available on tap, with the bottle selection at more than 80. The well-rounded wine list is popularly priced, with several wines offered by the glass. Craft Cocktails are also a specialty.

We had five people at our booth. The noise is so loud it was deafening. We were forced to be loud as well just to have a conversation. The food, however, was excellent and we would try again perhaps at a more subdued hour.

Great spot to have a quit bite before or after a show. Service was quite timely and the food was very good. My family and I enjoyed it very much. We will definitely visit again

Taking the kids to Shrek at the Warner, Backstage pre-theatre as usual, pretty large table. No better place anywhere nearby. (Unless you like the chains!) Fresh halibut, lobsters, fantastic burgers. They told us they just rolled out a new menu now that the local farms are in full production, many new items. Can't beat Backstage.

After dinner, we were going to see the play at the studio theatre next door. We arrived on time for the reservation and were instantly seated. The hostess was friendly as was the waitress. The food came in a timely manner, and it was excellent (I suggest the meatloaf to all who read this). My daughter ordered the veggie burger and loved it. She had been to Backstage before, and she knew what she wanted. It was very filling, and she could only eat half the plate! It was well worth the cost; the food is medium priced. I will definitely go to this restaurant again when there is another play I want to see; the theatre is through the back door of the restaurant!

I just didn't expect the food to be so good! I had seen the Backstage lots of times and heard only good things. But, until we tasted the braised short ribs, the steamed dumplings, the mussels and everything else we ordered, i had no idea what a great find the Backstage is. This place compares favorably with anybody's favorite places across Connecticut. And the prices are quite reasonable for the quality dishes they offer.

I love the "city like" atmosphere of the restaurant and bar. Burgers are great as is the chowder. I always go for dinner before I go to a show at the Warner. Great beer selection!

I had a great time at my last visit to Backstage. We split the Mussels and the Calamari as an app (both delicious!) and then we each had sandwiches for dinner (Steak Sandwich, Reuben, BBQ Pulled Pork). Combined with 40 beers on tap, I would definitely recommend Backstage to anyone.

Decided to give this place a try before a show at the Warner Theatre.

We are really glad we did.

Menu was huge. Lots of good choices. We were a party of 4 and all ordered different entrees. Everyone of them was fantastic. Salads were way over the top as well.

Unfortunately didn't have room for dessert, so can't give you feed back on that.

Cocktails were great as well, and the beer selection was one of the best I have seen in a long time. 40+ beers on tap, tons of bottle selections as well. Enough to satisfy any beer lovers wish for something different.

We will definitely be back.

Was going to be at The Warner and wanted to get a quick bite. Thought I would find pub food. SURPRISE! This restaurant is an oasis in a desert of Applebees, Chili's and Jake's Way Back. I wish they were in the Canton/Avon area, but will definitely make the drive to come back. An extensive wine and mixed drinks list. And the food - was exquisite! Absolutely no negative comments for this place. Service was fantastic. The petit filet was cooked perfectly, the mashed postatoes were like eating air they were so light and the grilled asparagus was perfection. I can't wait for my next visit!

My girlfriend and I frequent Backstage, and they have yet to let us down. We attended the Anything Goes show next door at 8pm. We made a reservation a week in advance (I would recommend you do so on nights there are shows at The Warner Theater.) We sat in the Bar area which we love. Our server Todd took wonderful care of us. He will keep you entertained for sure. We received our food in a timely manner, a little slower than their usual due to the volume of people in the building, had to be almost 200 people. That would slow any service down. We were once again thrilled with the food and service for being so busy. We will continue to come back in the future.

Went for dinner on Saturday night and there were two shows at the Warner. The place was packed but we were seated promptly. We had a great seat in the Red Room. Service was outstanding even though we had a little wait for our food - it was worth the wait. The Mussels were awesome. We had apps and they filled us up. Beer choice was unbelieveable. Even though it was very busy the Owner/Host Steve found time to visit everyone. Everyone was working hard as well as all the Managers. When we left Dustin (I believe a co-owner or Manager) asked how everything was and we said wonderful. We will be back. Thanks Backstage.

We had a warm welcome, well meaning service and very nice meal at this local hot spot. It was a very busy Saturday nite with a lot of patrons for the nearby Warner theater and a bar filled with locals watching the Kentucky Derby. We were given great seats in the bar area (fun if you don't mind "high rise" chairs) and enjoyed a meal of meatloaf with mashed, and fish and chips. Both very good but would have been better if warmer - the service lacked on follow through. My husband was promised a chilled glass for his beer, which never came, and extra gravy which never came, and we had to remind the server to bring dessert. But it was fun, good and friendly; will try again on a less busy nite.

Worked well for a casual supper before attending a show in the theater. Food was good. Service was attentive and prompt without being intrusive. It got a little loud but it was a happy sound, not harsh. Saw several younger kids and family groups. Dress ranged from casual to blazers. I would recommend it for a fun outing, good food, and casual environment.

The food is SO good here, but it is pricey for the type of restaurant that it is. Soup and burgers without drinks for 3 people should not cost over $60. That's ridiculous.
Also, it happened to be Kentucky Derby day and though we were not in the bar, it was still quite loud.
Lastly, they need to find someway to block the sun when dining around sunset. It is very uncomfortable having to look directly into the setting sun.

Seated us in room offset from the rest of the restaurant, even though there were many empty tables in the main area. We had requested a table in the bar area so we could see the NCAA game playing, and although our room did have a TV, we had to ask twice to have it turned on.

We have gone to Backstage several times and were disappointed to find a recent change in the menu offering fewer light options.

Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. Best part of the experience.

My Husband and I had dinner before a show at The Warner on March 16th. We were warmly greeted at the door, seated right away (and we were early). The food was great, and the service wonderful! The waitress was very attentive, even as the it became busier. She apologized for any delays (there weren't many).
The prices were great. What a treasure to find The Backstage in Torrington!
We will be regulars, and will recommend your restaurant to friends and Family!
Thank you all so much!
Sincerely,
Jill and Steve Williams

Large open space in what used to be a store. Service was excellent, food was good, not outstanding. If you ask for a quiet booth you can minimize the impact of the noise. But if you are in an open area be prepared for a high noise level--but that is part of the atmosphere. Right next door to the Waner Theater so it is very convenient if you are going to a show.

We've been several times. It's convenient for a before-theatre meal.....too pricey. We had a few beers, an appetizer and two salads and the bill was over $80 which, with the tip, neared $100. For salads? Like the atmosphere, service was very good. Just a high-priced menu with not a lot of selection.

We decided to try this restaurant as we were going to the theatre next door. Made a reservation and were glad we did as the restaurant was very full a short while later. We were seated on the second floor and had a good view of the street. We both ordered "chowdah" which was not remarkable but good. Go for the burgers! There are several choices, got the apple butter, bacon, brie, and spinach.. a very nice combination and cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the lobster pie which was lean on the lobster but tasty. Also, a great on tap beer list and service was quite good despite the fact that our waitress had to navigate the staircase every time she brought something to the table.

I stopped in tonight for a quick bite with my son. We each tried something new and loved it. The zucchini chips are addicting and delicious. My veggie wrap was unique and extremely satisfying. My son loves the fries and root beer on tap! The staff was friendly and accommodating as always. This restaurant is my new favorite. I have never had a bad meal or bad service. I will be back and suggestion this restaurant to everyone I know! Thank you Backstage. Keep up the good work!
