Back Forty West is a restaurant located in New York City that serves genuine American cuisine in a casual atmosphere. Back Forty is the perfect example of a neighborhood restaurant. For years, they have been pioneers of the farm-to-table concept, which now more common within the industry, but at the time of its inception Back Forty was a pioneer of using locally sourced ingredients. The menu is small but carefully constructed, and always changing with the seasons to ensure the freshest dishes possible.
The main attraction are the summer crab boils. A tradition originating in the Chesapeake Bay area, every Tuesday in the summer Back Forty boils a ridiculous amount of crabs along with corn and potatoes and literally dump in on the table to be enjoyed family style. Don't worry, the table is wrapped in newspaper when they do it, another tradition of a good boil.
