Back Deck Ratings and Reviews
We loved this place! Went before the movies, and it was perfect. What we loved the most was the food, the vibe, and that there was great background music with perfect volume so my date and I did not have to yell to hear each other, but noted we loved the music. New Mexico soup was delicious!
I have been before and the food was much better. On this day I ordered my steak medium and my 2 children ordered their burgers medium. They were all VERY well done, dry and charred. Mashed potatoes which are usually good were cold and runny. Asparagus was small portion and maybe should be switched with more seasonal veg as it was not a good quality.
Overall the food was very tasty and did not have to wait long for service. I ordered the pork chop was super juicy and flavorful. My mom ordered a salad with chicken and some of the chicken was a little "gangly" so she pushed it aside. They also originally brought my grandmother the wrong dish, so she had to wait an extra 10 minutes after everyone else received their food to get her own meal.
My wife and I made a reservation before a show. Waitress took order and was veey pleasant. Wife had a chicken kabob meal that came burnt. Waitress insisted on taking it back. Meal came back and was stone cold. She lost her appetite and didn't want to eat anything. Will not go back.
This was our second trip to Back Deck before going to the theater. It was as good, if not better, than the first time! We had the same friendly waitress and enjoyed bantering with her. The only negative is that the food seemed to take a long time to arrive, but it was worth waiting for and we had allowed ourselves plenty of time to make curtain call. Will probably make this our go-to place to eat before attending a play in them area.
We were seated near the bar. Spot lights too bright overhead, felt I was going to be interrogated. Being near bar and main transport area for food was noisy and hectic. I had made reservations a week ahead so disappointed in lack of attention. Host did not ask if we agreed to the seating. Just dumped menus and turned and left. Had to hunt down waitress to get bill and then receipt. We had theatre tickets so time was important. Will make other arrangements next time I am going to the Opera House.
The food was fantastic and the location was perfect for dinner before the theater. The desserts were creative and artistic. The restaurant really filled up while we were there, telling me it is a popular venue for a Friday night. It was our first visit and I'm so glad we made a reservation. We were able to have a stress-free and leisurely dinner before a show at the Opera House.
Visiting Boston and chose Back Deck because it was short walking distance from our hotel. Tom was our server- former college football guy and super server & personality. Checked back often and made sure we were set with food & drinks. Great music- including some Motown. Tasty food and great value. Wall of windows open to the outside.
Tom was excellent and went out of his way to accommodate our gluten free & vegan diets. Food was delish and the atmosphere was beautiful with the windows open to the street and a warm autumn breeze blowing gently in. Perfect for before a show at the Opera House!
The hostess was rude and unwelcoming and our server Tommy was more interested in his conversation than servicing me and girlfriend. The food was good and the drinks were also, but we will never go Back Deck again cause of the service we received. I don't want to bring the race card but white families and other white couples seemed to receive better service
Picked the place for location near Boston Opera House. Wines by the glass only featured forgettable, fruity millennial stuff -- clearly a beer and cocktail place. "Green gazpacho" was essentially chilled avocado soup, OK but not memorable. Grilled calamari in appetizer was tough and drowned in sauce, a sin in Boston. Chicken skewer was dry. Partner's BBQ steak salad was OK, if only because she asked for it w/o BBQ sauce. Place seems OK for post-work beer and bite, but only for that. Location will continue to make it popular, but not a worth it for serious food people.
Although the food is worth the visit the restaurant was definitely short on the quantity of wait staff.
We found the noise level high making conversation difficult.
I found the fact that ice was not added to the water a little annoying.
Overall, since I have only been to the restaurant on theater nights, I am dubious I would go there except for that occasion.
We brought our kids to this restaurant before a show at the Opera House. We arrived at 11, with a reservation, just after the restaurant opened. One of the waitstaff arrived as we did and rudely pushed passed us, until realizing that we were patrons & tried to swallow his words. Service the rest of the meal was polite but very forgetful & slow. Luckily we allowed for a 90 minutes for lunch else we would have missed the show.
I was a bit disappointed, I've had NC pulled pork both in NC and Boston, I must say what I ate at back deck did not hit the nail on the head. The sandwich was very bland and flavorless, and the BBQ sauce on the side didn't seem to really go with the dish. I might try a different menu item next time.
Was first left waiting at our table with one greeting us for 10 minutes. I had to approach the host stand to get someone to come over. Ordered a dish that was incomplete and cold. The server didn't check on us for a while and I was starving so i ate it any ways. I told him my feedback when he asked, and he took the drink off the bill which was nice. I wouldn't go back- there are many much better places in that same downtown area.
Love this place we have eaten here before an chose to come here again to start out our married date night, before we spent rest of night howl at the Moon& down lounge club. Place is very inviting like your in own backyard having abarbecue inside gives that feel.wasnt disappointed at all food was xcellent and our server was very helpful she even came back to table make sure our order was right, thought that was efficent on her part. Shared a salad then thee chicken orange saffron
Plate so yummy, able to have a nice conversion without being. Loud to hear each other.tummies were full an happy ready to continue our fun night out. Highly recommend here this restaurant to anyone who wants to have dinner out.
Went here for dinner before a show at the opera house. Perfect location just steps from the venue, lots of choices, separate gluten-free menu with lots of delicious options. Got the tacos and a Cobb salad with chicken. The best bacon I have had it awhile! Service was fast and friendly. Would recommend and will be back!
Had a good experience in this restaurant. Food was good, service is ok too. We had reservation for 7, hostess seated us on table for 6,didn't bring extra glass or silverware. It was 90 degrees out, they had all windows open, poor jadgment call on that. In addition they serve water with no ice, on 90 degrees weather!!!!! Was a little disappointing. But over all a good place
The food was great and the atmosphere was fun. The hostess was very friendly and I witnessed her keeping her cool with diners that didn't like the location of the table she assigned them. The only downfall is that the tables are very close together which decreased the option to have a private conversation without listening ears. It is very evident that the hostess goes out of her way to separate guests until the place gets busy.
Made an online reservation and was seated right away. It was very loud and extremely hot. It did not seem like the AC was on. Our waiter had completely sweated through the front and back of his shirt. It took 10 minutes to be acknowledged by a waiter, who poured us a glass of iceless water. We placed our food order with our drinks. 20 minutes later we had to flag down our waiter to check on the status of our food. He said he would go check and didn't ask if we needed another drink even though our glasses were empty. Another 20 minutes pasted and we still did not have our food. Because we were in the area to attend a show, we walked out without ever receiving our food. (We did leave money on the table for our drinks)
We made it to our show just in time, but with empty stomachs.
Our table was waiting for us when we arrived, menu prices were reasonable, and the service was friendly and efficient. Sadly, the food was mediocre at best. My daughter had the Cobb salad, which was unremarkable. My son and I each had the pulled pork sandwich.
Not sure how you can screw up pulled pork but the Back Deck does. Flavorless pork. A bland roll that crumbled, requiring us to eat with knife and fork. Insipid sauce. Bland slaw. A dish your middle school cafeteria prepared better.
We won't return.
