Back Deck Ratings and Reviews
This was the most terrible place we have ever gone. We were downtown and decided to grab a burger and from the outside, this place looked pretty decent. We figured how bad could it be? We wanted a basic burger and fries. We were seated and our waitress took our order. I ordered a soup and my bf ordered a salad to start and at the same time we placed the order for our burgers/fries. after about 15 minutes we inquired about our soup and salad. The waitress returned to clear the table next to us but did not give us an update. Within a few minutes we then received our soup and salad. The soup was tepid and the salad had no dressing and none was offered. A few minutes later our burgers arrived but since we requested the soup and salad to be served first and they practically came together, we returned the soup and salad. The burgers and fries were not hot but we were hungry and proceeded to eat. I asked for mayo and it took forever for it to arrive. In the meantime, our waitress had taken our glasses for refills at least 10 minutes prior and just returned with them. We complained about the food and service and asked for the manager. I young girl came over to us with a water pitcher (we declined the water) and she tells us she is the manager. We explain what happened and she is very apologetic and comps our entire meal. In the meantime, I have only taken two bites of my burger. It tasted funny and smelled weird. Never going there again! Although the food (and the service) was terrible, I still wanted to give the waitress a tip. I requested her but she never even returned to us and she never got the tip.
Honestly, one of the best things about my dining experience is the fact I got uber credits from using Visa Local. The gumbo was good, burgers were average, they forgot the feta in a GREEK omelette and I had to ask another waiter to bring condiments as our waitress took over 10 minutes.
Back Deck is a fun, interesting place, and great for before or after the Theater. It's right around the corner from The Opera House.
The food choices are limited - many burgers. But when we asked for bread, the only choice was to buy corn bread, which was smoky, as it was grilled. It was okay, but not wonderful.
It's always weird to me when a restaurant serves soup and salad and no bread or rolls.
None of the three of us loved the menu or food choices. Wings were supposed to be barbecue/spicy... and were bland, not spicy and had funny taste... smell was offputting/had to remove. All the food was so- so at best. The waiter was very good. Restaurant was empty... I think we were only diners... maybe because food was not so great. Too bad. Pleasant ambience... staff seemed quite nice.
We found this place on Phantom Gourmet. Looking for a nice place with gluten free options for a rare trip to Boston. I ordered the pork chop that had been reviewed. Very good. My grilled sweet potato was only warm so the maple pecan butter did not melt into it. One of my grilled brussel sprouts was perfect. The rest were severely undercooked to the point of being cold in the center. I was disappointed.
We had a nice table by a window. Water came immediately, then hot coffee. We were there at noon, before a matinee. My small plate...a duck leg and squash, was delicious. One friend had a huge, fresh Cobb salad, and the other had a breakfast plate with eggs, potatoes and toast. We were offered refills on coffee and tea. It was a good meal ata good price.
We found the food to be very bland. However, I have celiac's, ate the beet salad, and did NOT get sick, so that's a success. Separate GF menu with plenty of options. It looked like the burgers and steak and corn on the cob-type meals were probably better than the "foodie" options, which just didn't have much flavor.
We have dined here a number of times and this past Friday was the worst. The server had an attitude when we sent back burnt cornbread. They apparently cooked everything on the grille and the food either gets burnt or dried out. I had meatloaf and it was not tasty. On a positive side, the garden salad and brownie sundae desert were very good.
Our server forgot to put in my child's food. When she brought out our dinners she told us the restaurant was out of chicken fingers (which we would assume we would have known before we were served and my child was not..). About 5 minutes later she served us the chicken fingers. Very odd experience. I don't think we will go back due to the poor service/mediocre food for poor service!
Went to Back Deck for a brunch with friends. The menu had several good options, but what I ordered tasted ok - good, but not outstanding. Service was also good in the sense that the manager and the waiters were very cordial and apologized for bringing my eggs with an under cooked yolk twice when I specifically asked for it to be hard and well done due to my pregnancy. But besides that it was ok, nice place, we stayed for a long time even after we finished our meal without feeling any pressure to leave.
The restaurant came highly recommend to us. The food was amazing! I loved the idea of great food on small plates. The service, however was the worst service we had ever had. The waiter took our drink order, and then forgot to bring the drinks. He brought our appetizers, meals, and still forgot the drinks. By the end of the meal when we were asked if we wanted the check.....still no drinks.
When we complained, the manager kindly came over and gave us our drinks for free. I would recommend the food, but was unimpressed by the service we received.
We loved this place! Went before the movies, and it was perfect. What we loved the most was the food, the vibe, and that there was great background music with perfect volume so my date and I did not have to yell to hear each other, but noted we loved the music. New Mexico soup was delicious!
I have been before and the food was much better. On this day I ordered my steak medium and my 2 children ordered their burgers medium. They were all VERY well done, dry and charred. Mashed potatoes which are usually good were cold and runny. Asparagus was small portion and maybe should be switched with more seasonal veg as it was not a good quality.
Overall the food was very tasty and did not have to wait long for service. I ordered the pork chop was super juicy and flavorful. My mom ordered a salad with chicken and some of the chicken was a little "gangly" so she pushed it aside. They also originally brought my grandmother the wrong dish, so she had to wait an extra 10 minutes after everyone else received their food to get her own meal.
My wife and I made a reservation before a show. Waitress took order and was veey pleasant. Wife had a chicken kabob meal that came burnt. Waitress insisted on taking it back. Meal came back and was stone cold. She lost her appetite and didn't want to eat anything. Will not go back.
This was our second trip to Back Deck before going to the theater. It was as good, if not better, than the first time! We had the same friendly waitress and enjoyed bantering with her. The only negative is that the food seemed to take a long time to arrive, but it was worth waiting for and we had allowed ourselves plenty of time to make curtain call. Will probably make this our go-to place to eat before attending a play in them area.
