Back Deck Ratings and Reviews
We had a nice table by a window. Water came immediately, then hot coffee. We were there at noon, before a matinee. My small plate...a duck leg and squash, was delicious. One friend had a huge, fresh Cobb salad, and the other had a breakfast plate with eggs, potatoes and toast. We were offered refills on coffee and tea. It was a good meal ata good price.
We found the food to be very bland. However, I have celiac's, ate the beet salad, and did NOT get sick, so that's a success. Separate GF menu with plenty of options. It looked like the burgers and steak and corn on the cob-type meals were probably better than the "foodie" options, which just didn't have much flavor.
We have dined here a number of times and this past Friday was the worst. The server had an attitude when we sent back burnt cornbread. They apparently cooked everything on the grille and the food either gets burnt or dried out. I had meatloaf and it was not tasty. On a positive side, the garden salad and brownie sundae desert were very good.
Our server forgot to put in my child's food. When she brought out our dinners she told us the restaurant was out of chicken fingers (which we would assume we would have known before we were served and my child was not..). About 5 minutes later she served us the chicken fingers. Very odd experience. I don't think we will go back due to the poor service/mediocre food for poor service!
Went to Back Deck for a brunch with friends. The menu had several good options, but what I ordered tasted ok - good, but not outstanding. Service was also good in the sense that the manager and the waiters were very cordial and apologized for bringing my eggs with an under cooked yolk twice when I specifically asked for it to be hard and well done due to my pregnancy. But besides that it was ok, nice place, we stayed for a long time even after we finished our meal without feeling any pressure to leave.
The restaurant came highly recommend to us. The food was amazing! I loved the idea of great food on small plates. The service, however was the worst service we had ever had. The waiter took our drink order, and then forgot to bring the drinks. He brought our appetizers, meals, and still forgot the drinks. By the end of the meal when we were asked if we wanted the check.....still no drinks.
When we complained, the manager kindly came over and gave us our drinks for free. I would recommend the food, but was unimpressed by the service we received.
We loved this place! Went before the movies, and it was perfect. What we loved the most was the food, the vibe, and that there was great background music with perfect volume so my date and I did not have to yell to hear each other, but noted we loved the music. New Mexico soup was delicious!
I have been before and the food was much better. On this day I ordered my steak medium and my 2 children ordered their burgers medium. They were all VERY well done, dry and charred. Mashed potatoes which are usually good were cold and runny. Asparagus was small portion and maybe should be switched with more seasonal veg as it was not a good quality.
Overall the food was very tasty and did not have to wait long for service. I ordered the pork chop was super juicy and flavorful. My mom ordered a salad with chicken and some of the chicken was a little "gangly" so she pushed it aside. They also originally brought my grandmother the wrong dish, so she had to wait an extra 10 minutes after everyone else received their food to get her own meal.
My wife and I made a reservation before a show. Waitress took order and was veey pleasant. Wife had a chicken kabob meal that came burnt. Waitress insisted on taking it back. Meal came back and was stone cold. She lost her appetite and didn't want to eat anything. Will not go back.
This was our second trip to Back Deck before going to the theater. It was as good, if not better, than the first time! We had the same friendly waitress and enjoyed bantering with her. The only negative is that the food seemed to take a long time to arrive, but it was worth waiting for and we had allowed ourselves plenty of time to make curtain call. Will probably make this our go-to place to eat before attending a play in them area.
We were seated near the bar. Spot lights too bright overhead, felt I was going to be interrogated. Being near bar and main transport area for food was noisy and hectic. I had made reservations a week ahead so disappointed in lack of attention. Host did not ask if we agreed to the seating. Just dumped menus and turned and left. Had to hunt down waitress to get bill and then receipt. We had theatre tickets so time was important. Will make other arrangements next time I am going to the Opera House.
The food was fantastic and the location was perfect for dinner before the theater. The desserts were creative and artistic. The restaurant really filled up while we were there, telling me it is a popular venue for a Friday night. It was our first visit and I'm so glad we made a reservation. We were able to have a stress-free and leisurely dinner before a show at the Opera House.
Visiting Boston and chose Back Deck because it was short walking distance from our hotel. Tom was our server- former college football guy and super server & personality. Checked back often and made sure we were set with food & drinks. Great music- including some Motown. Tasty food and great value. Wall of windows open to the outside.
Tom was excellent and went out of his way to accommodate our gluten free & vegan diets. Food was delish and the atmosphere was beautiful with the windows open to the street and a warm autumn breeze blowing gently in. Perfect for before a show at the Opera House!
The hostess was rude and unwelcoming and our server Tommy was more interested in his conversation than servicing me and girlfriend. The food was good and the drinks were also, but we will never go Back Deck again cause of the service we received. I don't want to bring the race card but white families and other white couples seemed to receive better service
Picked the place for location near Boston Opera House. Wines by the glass only featured forgettable, fruity millennial stuff -- clearly a beer and cocktail place. "Green gazpacho" was essentially chilled avocado soup, OK but not memorable. Grilled calamari in appetizer was tough and drowned in sauce, a sin in Boston. Chicken skewer was dry. Partner's BBQ steak salad was OK, if only because she asked for it w/o BBQ sauce. Place seems OK for post-work beer and bite, but only for that. Location will continue to make it popular, but not a worth it for serious food people.
