The Dragonfly in Newport is a country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.


Steeped in history, The Dragonfly sits in an area of great significance to the ancient Celtic people. The pub was formerly known as The Celtic Springs, referring to a sacred spring to the east of the inn. To its north sits another enchanted site, the infamous Witching Tree, a tree which Celtic myth states has people trapped within it.

The Dragon Fly is right on the doorstep of Tredegar House, the ancient home of the Morgan Family, set in a beautiful 90 acre park. Nearby Bassaleg draws many visitors and the Cwm Hedd Lakes offer numerous activities.

    Surprised at the number of items which weren't available. Finally managed to settle on something that was in, thanks to the fantastic waitress. Good food when it came. Lovely atmosphere.

    Beautiful impromptu lunch from the set menu. I think it is £10.50 for two courses or £14 for three and everything we chose was delicious. Lovely building, great service and good value and we shall definitely return.

    Found bacaro on the Internet as I wanted somewhere different. Very busy which is a good sign and our table was ready. Food and service was excellent.. I would definitely recommend it.

    First time eating at Baraco and would definitely go again. Great selection of food, very tasty and good value for money. Staff are friendly and attentative but not overbearing. Would really recommend a visit.
