The food was not great (everything was mostly a classic with average execution, and there was nothing innovative or surprising about the food). I can understand why Babbo lost their one Michelin star. However, the ambience was very beautiful and the upstairs wallpaper is gorgeous.

The food was delicious. Our server, Melanie, was wonderful and fun and upbeat and took our overall experience from good to great. The only negative thing I have to say about this restaurant is that the gentleman at the check in area and the young lady who walked us to our seats were in a morbid mood and barely spoke 2 words to us between the two of them combined. It made us nervous about how the rest of dinner was going to go, but as I said, the tasting menu and Melanie more than made up for the off putting “welcome” we first received.

I am usually a huge fan of Babbo, we ate our food but it wasn't the best meal we have ever had. We came in hungry to eat but this wasn't the Babbo I recall. I have come pre-covid. Lots of places lost their staff and have new chefs, cooks etc. I won't be running back here for dinner anytime soon.

The Som suggested a pricey red. The server suggested an expensive insipid dessert and another $$ dessert wine that failed to impress. My dish of pasta was over cooked. Won't go back.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN HERE BEFORE BUT WE WILL COME AGAIN FOR SURE. ALL OF THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC. I HAD THE LAMB'S TONGUE SALAD AND IT WAS SUPER GOOD. NEVER HAD IT BEFORE BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. SHE HAD THE CLAMS WITH "CRAZY TOMATO SAUCE" WHICH WAS REALLY WONDERFUL. BE SURE TO GET EXTRA BREAD TO SOAK UP THE SAUCE. IT IS THAT GOOD. FOR DINNER SHE HAD THE 100 LAYER LASANGA. VERY GOOD, VERY THIN AND HAD SOME WODERFUL CHAR ON IT. I HAD THE PASTA WITH TOMOATOS WHICH I LOVED. VERY GOOD FLAVOR AND LIGHT. WE HAD 3 DESSERTS AND LOVED THEM ALL. SEMI FREDO WITH PISTACHIO IS TO DIE FOR, SHE LOVED THE PANNA COTTA WITH STRAWBERRIES AND THE CHOCOLATE GELATO WITH CARMEL AND HAZELNUT SAUCE WAS REALLY GREAT. HENRY WAS A GREAT SERVER. THIS PLACE HAS EARNED ITS MICHLIEN STAR AND WE WILL BE BACK MANY TIMES AGAIN.

Had the opportunity to go back to Babbo after many years and thought would enjoy a dinner on a beautiful summer evening. The atmosphere was nice as the setup had beautiful yellow florals around the dining area. The service was less than stellar and we had to wave down our waiter multiple times even to order after an extended period. The food came out timely but would say that quality has gone down substantially. Both our appetizer and entrees were bland and somewhat tasteless. The black ink pasta with lump crab meat lacked any seasoning or taste at all. The value overall for the food taste and quality is would not warrant a return to this once wonderful Italian dining spot.

Our waiter was super rude, to the level where I've never seen a person that rude at a restaurant. When he was taking away our dishes and utensils after the appetizer, he looked upset and he made sounds as if the dishes and utensils are about to break. I don't understand how someone could be that unprofessional at a restaurant like Babbo.

Over the last 20 years, I’ve eaten at Babbo several times for special occasions. I have wonderful memories of their pasta tasting menu and still to this day remember a fresh pea pasta that was incredible. I’m sad to say it will be the last time that I will spend money at Babbo. Our overall experience was not to the level of the price we paid for the night. The Castelfranco was the best thing I ate. The garganelli needed salt and I couldn’t find the taste promised by the truffle pesto. Joe would have sent the seared tuna contestant on Master Chef in the bottom 3. It was cooked properly but lacked flavor, finesse and innovation. The pappardelle bolognese and clams were well executed. There was too much saffron in the Risotto but the Osso Bucco itself was good. We understand the challenges in staffing that have occurred since the pandemic but we felt we were at a culinary school where the students were being trained for service. I felt they were in the weeds the entire time I was there. We could see the effort but it was sad to witness. I felt bad for them and that wasn’t the experience I was aiming for. Even sadder was that it was the first time we brought our son to Babbo to celebrate the end of the school year. After years of us telling him how wonderful Babbo was, he was disappointed that he didn’t love it as much as he expected he would and felt awful about it. I rarely write reviews for restaurants but I needed to share this one as the price tag on a dinner at Babbo is substantial and my expectation is to get the best.

Good food overall, but the music (80s/90s rock) was so loud and off-brand given the atmosphere, cuisine and atmosphere. Seems like they’re trying too hard to make it a more youthful clientele the wrong way.

Told the restaurant there was a nut allergy before we came and also to our server when we got there. They proceeded to give the individual TWO dishes that night which had nuts in them. That’s unacceptable for any restaurant, but even more so when you’re spending $100+ on your meal.

Went on Friday and the music was so loud we asked the server why it was that loud and playing only 70s music. They said it’s for a more informal ‘fun’ vibe. While it’s been a mainstay for the area, they haven’t innovated on the menu and it’s too bad as there are so many other great restos in NY.

We came here after a play and had a fabulous experience . The service, the intimacy of the venue , the choice of inside versus outside makes for a perfect evening that feels safe , and tended to. We kept it light with a salad , pasta with boar ragu , and a martini but those simple things were all perfectly executed - only the best here , the balsamic dressing and olive oil on the salad were perfection , if I only had another stomach , I would have ordered another round of pasta . The next time we will make Babbo the main event , as it deserves to be abd have their pork chop . This place is superb

Exceptional service, but good fell short. We had the pesce crudo tasted monotoned - just raw fish with salt and olive oil needs some acidity or some other taste profile. Beef cheek ravioli was ok - slightly on the salty side, but ok. For main, had the pork chop, but was underwhelmed by it. It was dry and texture was tough. Will not order again. I used to dream about this dish ~10 years ago when I had it for the first time. Very disappointed. I would like to stress the excellent service - from Maitre D to bartenders.

I first went to Babbo in 2002 and have been many times since. It's always been, in my opinion, one of the shining stars of NY's culinary scene, even if it's more mature now. I was particularly disappointed, given this, when I took a visiting group of friends there last Saturday. The food lived up to expectations - excellent - but the restaurant insisted on playing aggressively loud music the entire evening. I've been to a lot of restaurants in NYC and this was off the charts - it was equivalent to a drunken brunch. I'm at a total loss as to why the manager thought doing that was the right call - was the goal for guests to say, "man, I had Talking Heads blasted at me in a corner at 100 decibles for three hours, what a great time!"? We asked a number of times to turn it to a volume where we could at least have a conversation, but got blown off every time. It really killed the evening, or at least put it on the road to a painful experience, but the coup de grace was when we exited. My friend (visiting from SF) held the exterior door for a waiter, who dropped a tray of glasses on him. I get it, it happens in NY, but the real kicker is the Babbo managers just didn't care. The poor server ended up coming out later with a glass of soda water and a napkin, but I clearly saw several managers note the entire thing and do absolutely nothing. I hate to say it, and as you can tell, this is the only review I've ever composed, but it was such a poor experience that I felt it's worth putting out there. I'm not sure what the mangers think the desired experience is, but if it's sticking your friends in a corner with earsplitting 80s tunes and then having someone dump a tray of drinks on them as they exit and staring in cold silence ... good luck.

This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. Our experience was simply horrible because of the food. It was bland and tasteless. The service is really good but I will never go back again. I’ve been going to this restaurant for 10 years. I read the book Heat and was always a fan. They should’ve canceled whoever owns the restaurant now instead of Mario Batali.
