Loud emo rock music
This was the first time here in a few years. I was unpleasantly surprised by how far the quality, service and ambience declined to a very ordinary shopping center level. The heavy rock soundtrack alone was horrific and a complete distraction to the menu. A very disappointing experience from the beginning to end and definitely not worth it.
A prior lunch at Babbo was great in every way and prompted a return for dinner. The food quality was below par, oddly assembled, and not worth the money. As a Mario Batali restaurant, quality of the menu needs to be vastly improved . The service was sketchy and not efficient. I cannot recommend this restaurant.
I was quite disappointed to be honest. I had high expectations on Beef cheek ravioli
What an experience. Unpretentious. Classic Italian with a modern bent. Phenomenal service. We had the "pasta tasting menu" with the reserve wine selection to celebrate my mother's birthday. Inventive cuisine, without being too far out, and excellent wine pairings. I'd love to try something off of the regular menu next time -- we will definitely be back.
Delightful cosy Italian ristorante. Lunch with daughter and husband , absolutely delicious food and excellent service. Highly recommend making a visit here if in NYC. Will definitely return when visiting NYC again.
The food was great. I had the oxtail and it was fantastic, however the dessert was what blew me away.
Outstanding eating journey!
Felt rushed from the moment we walked in. Whisked us to our table, whisked menus into our hands, asked for our drinks order, and asked if we were ready to order twice BEFORE OUR WINE EVEN ARRIVED. Plates removed practically before we were finished. Food wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away -- the ravioli I had for lunch at a little walk-in Italian spot was thinner and more tender than and had just as good a sauce as the ravioli I got for dinner at Babbo. We decided to eat here because we were staying literally across the street and it was sleeting, and unless that exact same set of circumstances is true at some point in the future I likely won't return.
Babboo Ristorante was a pleasant experience. Our waiter was very informative and adhered to our dietary restrictions. We had the grilled octopus and the ribeye for two. Both dishes were sublime! I particularly enjoyed the employees cutting the steak in front of us and pouring some aged balsamic vinaigrette on our steaks. The brussel sprouts were really good and I had an amazing time.
Babbo's was a very exciting and charming venue; seemed to be a place to go to for special occasions. The food was excellent. One concern was the slowness of our waiter taking our order. But the food came in very good time. Another concern was the noise level....too loud, including the music which made it impossible to have a quiet conversation.
food was excellent, no question, but music was extremely loud and made conversation
difficult. Also our friends were delayed and the maitre d' refused to seat us early, saying
it was a firm rule. Soon a table of 6 arrived but only 5 were there , so many of us were all
squeezed in the bar area . It seems to be reasonable to clear people out of the foyer and let \them be seated. Only quibble was this unmoveable policy.
Excellent food, staff so kind and efficient, everything was perfect.
Check over the wine list. Its amazing!
Food and service were both superb!
It was so full on Friday night, was very difficult to book.
The pastas are amazing, the ambience is great (very dark though).
I have been an absolute fan of Mario Batali for years; have his cookbooks and watched all of his cooking programs. I was in NYC for business and it was my last day in the City and made a lunch reservation for me and an associate for 11:30 am. My associate wanted to do a little shopping given it was our last day and I stated that was fine but when it was time to go to Babbo's I was leaving with or without her. Thankfully she had the good sense to accompany me to the restaurant at the appointed time. The staff was WONDERFUL....everyone we came in contact with was gracious and helpful. I know there have been some issues with Batali recently but the staff reflected no negativity and my experience could not have been better. My only disappointment was that we didn't stay longer and spend, eat and drink more!!!
Fantastic meal. Service was impeccable. We were even in a hurry for a show at the Blue Note and everything was timed perfectly without their knowledge. Wine list is on point and meals were mouth watering.
Absolutely our favorite restaurant after our first visit. The food is amazing the staff is incredible. We are from out of town but will make this a place we go every time we are in New York.
The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable from our first peek through the curtains to our last bite of dessert. Elegant but casual. Liked the seating the arrangement Now the food. Excellent. Our waiter helped us with our choice of wines. Very good. Loved the Cavatelli with lobster, octopus and Calbrian Chiles. The Pistachio and Chocolate Semifreddo was to die for.
Especial dinner!!! Worth it!!! Great service and outstanding food!!!
45 minutes for appetizer. Babbo Salumi appetizer was an embarrassing worn out assortment of small curled up primitively arrayed pieces spread over a large plate. It was the worst depiction of the dish I have ever witnessed. My guests were astounded.
Next 45 minutes later the pasta dishes were served “cold” and the waiter apologized profusely.
Candidly this restaurant has had its day.
This place is over-hyped. Pasta was fine but bland. Overall found this a bit disappointing.
Bartender gave dirty looks and talked about people directly in front of them, SO UNPROFESSIONAL. Overall once at table, great experience. Many different waiters constantly come up to you, so you dont know who your real waiter is.
Better than ever
Everything was wonderful. The only thing I would change is to lower the music a bit. It was very loud and made it difficult to talk.
Wonderful, delicious, civilized.
Love this place. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The decor is beautiful and peaceful. The food is creative and very yummy. The sommelier could have been better.
Superb, as always. Extremely friendly welcome and service.
Great , please get bathrooms
Had a gift certificate. Awesome experience with the tasting menu. Wonderful, generous service.
Continues to be among the best Italian restaurants in the world. I’m half Italian and have been to Italy many times . Very hard working dedicated staff and superb cooking prevail.Yet there is no sense of pretentiousness. Don’t hesitate to ask the sommelier for advice. He’ll choose for you precisely what you describe you seek in a wine. The waitstaff knows exactly what ingredients are in every dish. This restaurant is a paradigm for others to follow in the business!
Food was perfectly prepared and just the right amount. Service was as it should be. Servers where on top of there game making sure we had everything we needed. Planning on going there again in the near future.
A bit noisy
We loved our fine dining at Babbo. They serving staff add all the finishing touches to the meal. Starting with chick peas crostini and the Italian bread, then we were on to our appetizer of Babbo Salami with Baby Fennel. This was 5 different kinds of meats, just enough for a taste which is what we wanted as we needed room for the next course. We chose their own Babbo wines served in an 8 ounce carafe.
We chose two of the home made pastas. They served us one at a time and did portion shares at their suggestion. The maitake mushrooms comes through the Tonnarelli Verde but we just loved the Homemade Orecchiette with Sweet Sausage and Rapini. The tomato sauce was fresh with little pieces of the sweet sausage and plenty of rapine.
The best desert was the Pistachio and Chocolate Semifreddo. The pistachio semifreddo, ice cream and whipped cream blended paired with chocolate glace and an 1/8 inch chocolate flour less cake as the crust. Even though we were full we finished the desert with glee.
This is a special occasion place and we were not dissappointed.
Amazing food, but expensive.
Noise makes conversations a bit hard.
One of the best meals in NYC.
Very loud, crowded scene. Great for a night out or starting a night. Food is good, but not top restaurant by NYC standards.
I love the local of the restaurant but i didnt like the food. I thought there were more, it was too small the plate with the food, and the local music was very loud.
