An exceptional meal, tremendous friendly and attentive staff. Best duck breast and duck leg confit ever on a bed of excellent vegetables in a beautiful presentation served at the perfect temperature. Sardine appetizer was exquisite and bread was so good that when I commented abut it they graciously asked if I wished for some to take home . An exceptional yet not unexpectedly expensive wine list although very good wines at reasonable prices by the glass.
I found the music to be loud and obnoxious. Our overall experience was disappointing.
Fantastic food and wine, great service , little tight space
We had a nice evening, but we found the background music disturbing and noisy. We felt it was difficult to conversate with eachother.
Terrible should not have this high of a rating
Always superb for dinner but haven't been for lunch in a long time. It was great to find so many different dishes in the lunch menu - too many delicious choices. Great service, and so much quieter at lunch. A total success.
The restaurant was one of our favorites. for many years. The food, service and ambiance have gone down since Mario Batali left.
The food at Babbo used to be outstanding , now there are many other restaurants where the food is just as good.
Easily meet and exceeded all expectations. Only issue was the wine list although extensive had fewer reasonable choices ($100-200 [ can’t believe I classify that as ‘reasonable’] vs. very & very very expensive options. Som was helpful and knowledgeable. Wonderful experience.
It was wonderful until the guinea hen cacciatore. It was tough & sinewy.
The tasting included olive oil cake NOT a tasting of 3 different deserts.
The waiter didn’t come back with our change until I asked someone else for it....bad taste when you think you deserve the balance.
We had the tasting menu with wine for lunch. Absolutely delicious - I highly recommend this restaurant.
great cozy atmosphere with good, unpretentious food
Delicious food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend
Wonderful food. Desserts to die for! I would love to visit again.
The high professionalism of the entire staff is what struck me the most. It is obvious why they are still going strong after so many years. The ambience of the historic townhouse really sets Babbo apart, and of course the food is excellent, defining the upper echelon of what this group has to offer. Thank you for a delightful 40th birthday.
This place has deteriorated from a few years back. The pork chop that they used to brag as special, was so hard and dry that the knife couldn’t cut it. Same as the lamb chops. The chocolate hazelnut cake is sooo dry.
The only decent item we had was the braised beef cheeks ravioli.
We will never go back.
Batali should fix this place if he wants to salvage his name in the culinary world.
What a disappointment.
The pasta with pork belly is excellent. The service is also great as well as the environment. I will come again.
It is no wonder that this place has withstood the fierce competition in this city and survived. The service is impeccable and the food second to none in terms of taste and creativity. I could do without the blaring soundtrack which was not to my liking and incongruous with the atmosphere but hey, it’s Mario after all.
Iconic. Consistent. Comfortable. Sublime. Professional. Perfection.
excellent food. The shrimps in a tomato base was outstanding as was the beef ravioli and the branzino! Desserts and cappucino were fabulous!
A little bit too dark!
Definitely coming back.
My girlfriend and I had 4 dishes here,
1. Grilled octopus
2. Pappardelle bolognese
3. Beef cheek ravioli
4. Black spaghetti
Our waiter recommended #4 but it was our least favorite.
We liked 1 and 3 the most, but 2 was good.
No other complaints.
I love the atmosphere and the music. Food of course is stellar. Service is great. It is expensive but I’m from Chicago. Will be back. (Have already been a few times).
Everything was great except for the fact we were seated in the first table by the door and we froze the whole dinner
The pasta is fabulous at Babbo and that is what we go for. We had 3 different pasta dishes; a garganelli with mushrooms, the Chianti stained pappardelle with boar ragu and their gnocchi (okay, not technically pasta) with an ox-tail ragu. We also ordered a side of sautéed escarole. Heaven!
Sat at bar , great bartender , great recommendations, great food
My daughter and I went to lunch at Babbo on Saturday, 3/24/18 before we caught a Browadway show, SpongeBob Squarepants. We had reservations for 11:30am which were needed. The restaurant is reasonably small/cozy so i would strongly recomment making reservations in advance. BTW, the restrooms were very clean and nice but real small (on the first floor).
I started lunch with a Birra Nursia which was excellent and my daughter had a Sprite (nothing special there). They served a complementary marinated chick peas on a crustini which I really liked and my daughter did not. For lunch, she ordered their specialty, Beef Cheek Ravioli and I ordered the Gnocchi. We both absolutely loved the presentation and the meal itself. Unbelievely delicious! The servings were not huge but we knew that since most folks order a pasta and then a 'secondi' meal. No room for dessert but next time, I will get the Vanilla and chocolate malt gelato.
Overall, the experience was awesome and we will defiantely come back. Next time, my wife will also join us.
FYI, if you are a party of two, you will most likely be seated in the front by the door which is a little tight as the bar is immediately behind you.
Babbo combines all the right elements - a great bar, excellent service and well prepared, interesting food. Both the bartenders and wait staff are engaging and provide clear explanations of both the drinks and the food preparations. The sommelier's guidance in our wine selection was very helpful.
Upon arrival (off peak and on time)I asked the person at the reservations desk if my wife and myself could be seated while my two sons and their guests were 5 min. From arrival. I was told that it was policy for all quests to be seated at the same time and to wait at the bar. Well the bar is small and dressed for dinner service and waiting area rather small. This would be strike no.1
There are only two complaints about the meal. My appetizer of Tortelloni was undercooked ( dry pasta al dente; fresh pasta not). Perhaps I am over sensitive to this. I had brought my uncle and aunt from California here some years ago with my then younger sons. All pasta (dried) were served extremely undercooked. When I voiced my dissatisfaction I was told that Mario had brought him from Italy for his skilled cooking of pasta dishes and that we were not familiar with it being served al dente. I had been to Italy many times on business and my uncle and aunt lived there for 10 years. It was still raw. My only other complaint was that my wife’s grilled lamb chops were served cold. All other dishes were well prepared. The service from sommelier to bus boy was top drawer. Yes I would recommend this restaurant but there are also many other choices.
I accidentally mixed up the reservation time by 15 min- but Babbo graciously accommodated us being late. Our server and the sommelier were both outstanding- they gave great recommendations. We always look forward to visiting babbo when we’re in town and tonight was exceptionally great! Food and service was perfect.
It was my birthday, and all I have to say is WOW! Some of the best service and food NYC has to offer.
Great food, great service , beautiful quaint restaurant
Great place, outstanding food and service. The only downside was cramped seating
sommelier was pretty patronizing, good pasta, decent entrees, nice interior, good wine
We travel to NYC at least once a year and make a pilgrimage to this incredible restaurant. The food is absolutely divine, the service impeccable , and the people sublime.
New York wouldn’t be the same without Babbo.
Exceptional food, wine and service!!
Loud emo rock music
This was the first time here in a few years. I was unpleasantly surprised by how far the quality, service and ambience declined to a very ordinary shopping center level. The heavy rock soundtrack alone was horrific and a complete distraction to the menu. A very disappointing experience from the beginning to end and definitely not worth it.
A prior lunch at Babbo was great in every way and prompted a return for dinner. The food quality was below par, oddly assembled, and not worth the money. As a Mario Batali restaurant, quality of the menu needs to be vastly improved . The service was sketchy and not efficient. I cannot recommend this restaurant.
I was quite disappointed to be honest. I had high expectations on Beef cheek ravioli
