Are outside to be safe. Sidewalk dining is better than nothing, but not the same experience as eating in the restaurant. The food was good, but not great. One standout was the warm carpaccio, it was outstanding. Steak was tough, scallops were OK, desert was good.
Way too loud to talk. Wouldn’t turn down. Asked to be moved away speakers, told no. Excellent octopus and scallops. Mediocre pasta. One was gummy. Wine list pricy even for so-so wine. Wouldn’t go back without earplugs. On second thought, wouldn’t go back.
For an elegant restaurant, playing LOUD rock and roll just doesn’t fit. Not to mention, very annoying in that kind of atmosphere.
Outstanding food, pleasant service, but the loud 80s rock music spoiled our enjoyment. Unfortunately, the management proved unresponsive to our polite request to lower the volume.
I’m a big supporter of all the Bastianich family projects but I’ll never return to Babbo. This wasn’t a “fine dining “ experience.
I didn’t mind the loud music too much at first, although it was hard to communicate with the server and I found the treble mix too high. But then they started playing the beastie boys at the same loud volume. My party could not even talk over the loud obnoxious music. I asked them to change the music and I was at first ignored. Upon further insistence the volume was reduced slightly. I won’t be returning to this place.
I was really disappointed with the ambiance in this restaurant. The music was so loud that it was impossible to have a conversation. We mentioned this to the waiter, who said he talked about the loud music level with the manager, but the manager apparently said that is the way the owner (Batali?) likes it. Well - I don't care if the food is excellent - there is simply no point going to a restaurant where the music is so loud that you cannot talk to others at the table. This is a restaurant - not a night club. So, I will NEVER go back to this place. There are so many great alternatives in New York!
Food was excellent, especially the olive oil and balsamic vinegars. The olive oil gelato was super. Sitting outside was good, but the table was not really steady. Service was spot on at all times.
Time to close shop.. once one of our favorites. We actually settled the tab and left to eat elsewhere.
The food and drink was amazing, I only wish the music wasn’t so loud.
Absolutely amazing. Food was superb. I had the argula salad, bolognese and garganelli - the pasta was so fresh and light. There was an amazing wine list and a very helpful sommelier. Entire staff was very friendly and on top of it.
I felt Babbo was not what it used to be, especially the food. I was disappointed with the pasta, although the duck was very good. The mushroom garganelli was very too buttery and not very "truffled". You can skip the corn creme brule with popcorn; the ricotta cheesecake was very good.
The music was loud, old, and a nuisance. It was cold inside.
My comments are, of course, relative to the price
All in all it was a fine meal. Had previously been better. Everything seemed pretty expensive and we still left hungry. The waitress was nice and knowledgeable.
Babbo has been on a long decline for some years. Right now it is of course a very challenging time to run a high-end restaurant but they are really filling tables way beyond the capacity of their waitstaff. They have some rediculous tables in the middle of the sidewalk that they should really get rid of. Food is spotty but the wine program is still going strong - recommend getting a few simple dishes and make use of the excellent sommelier.
We sat outside and had the pasta tasting menu to celebrate our birthdays in their Covid enclosure. Everything was delicious, only downside were some fellow guests who seemed to be impossible to please and toxic. But that’s more of the them problem than the restaurant!
We had a wonderful meal and experience.
I love Babbo, right now they are trying to accommodate everyone outside and inside and our server was a total pro but completely unable to manage everything she was trying to manage. The music was anxiety causing and verging on hard rock. Sadly, I doubt I’m racing back even if the food was superb.
Amazing food and amazing service! Would highly recommend.
Amazing food !
Babbo is great! Perfect for date night/birthday — pasta tasting menu with reserve wine pairings were fantastic, highly recommend!
Great night out
Food is delicious. Service is okay, attention to detail needs improvement as well as the hospitality aspect.
We will be back, hoping for more hospitality and welcoming feel next time.
the music got very loud - not for elegant dining on a Saturday night - defintely for a yougner crowd
Best octopus I have ever had!
Cannot wait to return on next trip to NYC.
It was amazing!
Kind of feels a little stale. Not as extraordinary as it used to be.
From start to finish the food and wine were all outstanding. A real privilege to dine at Babbo.
Not all of the servers/staff were wearing mask… which is odd given delta. But everything else was fabulous.
I’m a regular here and our waiter was no where to be found. I do have to commend the rest of the staff but service at our table was lacking. Also the food was not as good as it was a few weeks ago.
As always, the service is without peer, the food fantastic, great wine list. We will keep coming back.
If you want ambiance, go here. Food was just ok, nothing life hanging, not bad.
Food was excellent. But tables were excessively crammed together. There was little air conditioning. No bread at the table. Mixed experience
The server was very knowledgeable about wine pairings. Food was amazing.
Wonderful but outside dining experience could have better. I think they did what they could to ameliorate effect of eating on the sidewalk.
The food is, of course, excellent, but the folks at Babbo seem to think that it can only be enjoyed with loud music that does not fit the setting. Are they trying to prove something?
Very nice and attentive staff. Celebrated a b'day for my 10 year old. Very sweet with her. She loved it. We all did, party of 5.
The food was good - the only issue was that we had a table of four, and one of us was vegetarian and we wanted to do the tasting pasta menu and they were not willing to switch out a couple of the pasta dishes for our vegetarian friend or allow only three of us to do the tasting because they were unable to accommodate our vegetarian friend. So my friend felt guilty, and we did not want her to feel guilty so we ordered the pasta tasting menu, and forced her to order another dish so that she did not feel left out.
Food and service never disappoint. Can't wait to go back.
Nice ambiance and professional staff. Had the black sea bass with mussels and it was OK. The place was bustling, loud, and it seemed like everyone was in a hurry. Felt rushed. They knew it was our anniversary, and gave us a sweet treat at the end because of this. A nice touch.
