I used to LOVE this place. Unbelievable the pasta tasting menu, I would come twice a year. This last time was disappointing, the food was just “good” which for a $250 dollar a person dinner is not good enough.
Every dish here used to be a delight, amazing, now is just “good”, What happened? Did they lose their chef?
I am really sorry, but I can think of many other places with better Italian food than this for that price. Will miss this….maybe Carbone?
Music was loud and completely misaligned for a holiday dinner in NYC. Food was very good but overpriced. Service was exceptional.
The sommelier was so helpful in finding us the perfect bottle of wine and the pasta was delicious. Will definitely be coming back.
Had a wonderful meal and enjoyed very much. Would have preferred seating upstairs as very very loud downstairs
Food is not the same as yesteryears. It was good, not great. Service has gone way down as well. Service was meh and overall dinner felt rushed. Also, we dined as a party of 5, got the tasting menu and were surprised they changed the desserts served when the menu had the olive oil cake without even asking us. We had to get them to change it back. It will be the last time we dine at Babbo, that’s for sure. Just a tourist trap now it seems.
The restaurant is unnecessarily loud. Like really, really loud. Also, I know it was an accident, but the Somm knocked over an entire glass of water into my lap when retrieving the wine menu from the table. Her response was “oops, I’ve been so clumsy lately!” and the incident was never mentioned again or acknowledged. I was soaked. The food was very good, sort of an interesting menu. Beautiful, large stemware served with the wine.
Outdoor seating huts are not nearly as enjoyable as other restaurants’ huts. Sit inside or don’t go.
Our server was perfection! She gave us the best recommendations, was attentive but not overly on top of us and was hilarious to boot. What a pleasure last night was! Also, amazing music selection. We’ll be back asap!
Crudo, wagyu carpaccio, beef cheek ravioli, black pasta, sweetbreads. All delish. Tiramisu was good too. Nice wine. Very attentive and engaging service. Have been before. Will go back.
consistently a favorite and never a disappointment
The old institution that is Babbo is still cranking out amazing meals. The prices have gone up since I was last there a few years ago, and with the same quality of everything else, the overall value has depreciated a touch. With that said the people who cook your food know what they are doing, the service is just right, and the ambiance fine. We sat upstairs so we couldnt hear the music, which at Babbo tends to be a value add to the experience, if you like 80's post punk alternative, which we do. Highlights were the octopus app, the bolognese, and the mint love letters. The olive oil cake to close out the night is just right. 3 hungry men, one app, 5 pastas, 2 desserts, all shared - them bellies full! GO - it is pretty much a "cant miss" night out.
worst experience for price ever
Several menu changes , certainly missed the pasta with Pancetta and parsnips but everything I ate was great!
Amazing food service and ambiance. Thank you
First time visit and food was amazing,. Server could have warned about serving size. Could have shared they were way huge! Overall was great.
it was amazing!!!! great experience as always! incredible food, experience, and service!
Great food and service.
If your looking for authentic Italian cooking done properly, this is a religious experience. Everything on the menu is visually as appetizing as it gets. The flavors presented are diverse and unique yet nostalgic and warming. The sommeliers are very knowledgeable and bring unreal pairings to the table. Highly recommended.
Babbo is really outdated! It's a tourist haven but local New Yorkers know that the restaurant has overstayed it's status. I was really hoping to find the old Babbo from 20 years ago---but alas, the service, ambiance and food quality experience made it tough to shake-off the drab feel of the place. The food is good---the pastas in particular--but for the price the value equation is very questionable. There are too many better alternatives in the city.
Fabulous food. Impeccable service. The waiter recommended a great wine that was reasonably priced and the wine glasses and presentation of wine was awesome. The black spaghetti was our favorite but all good was great. We shared all of the pastas and our waiter planned the serving order perfectly. Looking forward to our next time!
The wagyu carpaccio was amazing.
Thanksgiving Dinner. Delicious food, excellent service and ambiance. It’s pricey but worth it. Highly recommend.
First time and will always return now on my list of NYC new spots.
Poor dining experience. Apps were good but entred were not good snd the music selection was heavy metal for fine dining. Has lost its charm
Amazing meal. Sebastian’s knowledge and passion made it that much better. Thank you.
Used to go to Babbo every month & love all their dishes. Since pandemic this is the first time we go back, frankly, we are quite disappointed. The food quality and the taste not even closed to their level. Price wise is increased quite a lot especially the appetizer. If only price adjustment and able to keep tasty good quality, we will not be disappointed. Not sure we want to go back, at least not for a while!
Not enough superlatives from fantastic front desk to amazing knowledgeable wait staff to a top rated sommelier … service here was over the top excellent despite the packed house. Oh and the food was amazing, brought out hot directly from the kitchen with each dish cooked to perfection with flavors to die for. Rarely do you get your money’s worth at these high end establishments anymore but we walked out of Babbo with a $1400 bill incredibly satisfied. Nice job!
I celebrated my birthday here.. it’s a west village staple, thought we’d go here. It was okay not what I expected. Glad, I checked it off the list. The service was fantastic. The waiter(s) gets 5 stars! The grilled octopus was overcooked, the tripe & beans was tasty. The beef cheek ravioli was the best!!!
Food was excellent - the music was just too loud - we had a table of 7 and really had tough time having conversation.
Great food, horrible seating!! They sat us right next to door that was constantly swinging open for outdoor seating. Freezing- they should really rethink their bar seating.
Delicious food and fantastic service. It never fails to deliver!
Service was good, but the food…tasting menu was terrible.
Not good. Not a place that held onto its crown from 2000s rage. Pasta was bland and pretty flavorless. Branzino and wine list wears only thing decent. Don’t recommend.
Great food great service fun and friendly
Eat the Cheek ravioli
The Ricotta cheesecake was a religious experience
Our indoor reservation had been switched to outdoor on a very cold night. Eventually we were seated inside. An allergic member of our party was served food she was allergic to by staff on two separate occasions. Appetizers (prosciutto and raw fish dish) and wine were sublime. Primi and segundi were solid but not extraordinary. Prices reasonable. Lovely for a local place but not worth making a long trip. Waiter was fantastic.
Best Italian restaurant in the city.
Food was a little underwhelming. Wine was good but overpriced after we asked for a price limit (by $30). Service was prompt and polite.
Birthday dinner for my daughter - the food was amazing!
