What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
Food and service was great. It took them 45 minutes past our reservation time to seat us because people took a long time at their tables, but the staff was very apologetic and sent out multiple complementary items to make up for it.
As with all Bastianich restaurants
One of the best meals I've ever had in NYC! My wife and I went to Babbo to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. Outstanding food, fantastic service, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable.
Definitely overpriced for the service and food.
Veal Chop special for two was poorly done. Pasta dishes fantastic, wine choices superb. We were seated downstairs where the noise level was extremely loud.
Great service by an attentive staff.
Babbo is an icon of NYC Italian restaurants and rightly so. Yes, it is painful to get a table there, yes, sometimes the receptionist could be a bit more friendly and yes, a little bit more space to sit at the tables would also be great, but............the food is of exceptional quality, the freshness, the flavors and the type of preparation are just top of its class. If you are a regular, you may think that the pasta dishes could change a bit more with the season and some classics, like a "simple" linguine sea food, is somehow missing, but once you get your dish of fresh pasta, just enjoy. Dining at Babbo is more on the pricier side, particularly when it comes to wine. The wine list is world class and prices are on high latitude, but you really want to treat yourself, Babbo is the place to pull the cork of an excellent Italian red!
Went hear for a birthday celebration, first time here. Food choices were unique and varied. Service was friendly and efficient. Food was delicious! Prices reasonable if you don’t drink alcoholic beverages or at least limit them. Would definitely recommend and will go back.
Excellent food and service! Authentic Italian at its finest. Highly recommended.
We had the most fabulous dinner at Babbo. From the moment we were greeted at the door to our great server Brooke who was totally attentive. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to going back in the near future.
This was my second time at Babbo and the experience was just as good as my first time. Totally recommend to others and definitely will return.
It was a wonderful all around experience. Great food, great service.
We tried the Traditional tasting menu with the recommended wines and it was everything we expected it to be. And them some!
The meal was very well composed and excellently presented, the wine selection impeccable and the service top notch.
I higly recommend Babbo, well worth a visit!
We were greeted right away and offered some Proseco while we waited for our table. We were given a very beautiful corner booth in the main dining area. The staff and service were second to none. The food was amazing. Grilled pork chop with cherry peppers and balsamic. Olive Oil poached halibut with lobster and corn. These dishes were nothing short of spectacular!! Dessert was the Pana Cotta with passion fruit and apricot. We also ordered the Pistachio semi freddo which is just amazing.
Tried the traditional tasting menu and it did not disappoint.
Me and boyfriend enjoyed food, music and ambiance was fantastic.
Wine pairings were great and our server was soo professional.
Definitely coming back here.
Excellent! Exceptional BYC Italian restaurant. No more needs to be said
Saturday lunch at Babbo is becoming a regular event that we truly love. The food is beyond sublime, the atmosphere is buzzy but calm and the service is impeccable. Special kudos to GM Ray Rando, John Maineri and Brandon, our wonderful server. Our lunch set the tone for a great weekend!
1st night of mother/son trip to NYC. Could not have been better. We arrived a little early & were asked to wait for our reservation time. We elected to dine at the bar. We were tended by Synon(sp?). He was warm, friendly & knowledgeable. He made excellent suggestions and recommended perfect wines to pair with my selections. The octopus was amazing! It was succulent & briney. Delightfully citrusy with just the right amount of acid to compliment. A must have! The Beef Cheek Ravioli was luscious & decadent. Soulfully satisfying concentrated meatiness. My son loved his Orchetti. We shared a whole Branzino which the kitchen thoughtfully split for us. Fresh, tender & moist. Sublimely paired with lemon oregano jam. Desserts were equally impressive. My son’s Olive Oil Cake with Gelato, so good, he didn’t even want to share a bite. The Blueberry Sottosopra with Sweet Corn Gelato was wonderfully packed with fat blueberries-the essence of summer. From start to finish a tremendous experience with delightful staff members and exceptional service. Thanks for starting our vacation off with such a Big Bang! We’ll be back for sure!
We had a great meal. Susan our server was delightful and made our evening very enjoyable. We will be back!!!
Great food and service!!
Food was good, but overly oily. Music (Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen) was loud, precluding conversation. Ambience: good, but not possible to have a conversation. Why the loud music? And the choice of music was odd for an Italian restaurant.
The service was impeccable! From start to finish, I was truly impressed with the hospitality of everyone that works there. The food, however, was so-so. I got the asparagus special which was nice asparagus but fairly uncreative and the egg atop it was a little overcooked. I also got the garganelli, which was good but doesn't really stand out in terms of pasta or sauce. I had higher hopes for a (expensive) Michelin star restaurant's food.
I thought that overall Babbo was mediocre and past its prime. The decor seemed tired and dim. We were immediately turned off when we showed up at 5pm for our reservation and were taken to a table at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen. Keep in mind the restaurant was completely empty! Could they have at least given us a nicer table, especially since they knew we were dining for our anniversary. We tried the mozzarella appetizer which was bland at best. The gnocchi and bolognese pasta dishes were pretty good, but not good enough to get me to go back to the restaurant.
Everything was absolutely perfect!
Waited a while even with reservation, but they brought 2 extra dishes for free to make up for it
Amazing!! Wine is pricey for sure. Food off the charts good. Service is excellent. Just go and enjoy. Impossible to pick something that will not please.
Great experience at Babbo! The beef cheek ravioli were divine!
All was fantastic. Food, service. Could have settled for only apps and pasta! Mussels wonderful and asparagus ravioli and goat cheese tortellini were worth the trip! Service was attentive and helpful. Microscopic print menu is my only issue! LOL
Very dimly lit. Would be a nice place for a date but the music doesn’t match the ambiance. They played Aerosmith and Green Day. While I like that king of music, I don’t like it with a romantic style restaurant. Was extremely turned off by the fact that our waiter and the sommelier were drinking wine the whole time. I was appalled when the sommelier took a carafe of wine from the table next to us who had just left and poured it in a glass and started drinking it!!! I will never go back nor would I recommend this place. The food was just ok for the price.
This was my first time at Babbo and it was amazing! Everything on the menu looked so authentic and tasty, but our waiter was great in helping us decide, even pairing a wine with our meal. Would highly reccomend to anyone who has an appreciation for good Italian food.
Reunion love the service and food
We’re from California but spend a lot of time in New York and abroad. We are “ foodies “ in our mid 50’s and been to the “ top 5 “ restaurants in Manhattan.
We met friends who came up from Philly on a Friday night . Had 5:30 Reservations.. got there at 5:00 to have cocktails before dinner . We barely got our drinks and waiter “ demanding “ we take our table at 5:30 . Our waiter looked bored and didn’t really spend a lot of time with the menu etc .. we ordered our appetizers while we were finishing our drinks .. he wouldn’t take our appetizer order unless we ordered our meals too . I have never ever experienced that in other Michelin Star Restaurants .. the room was barely full at 5:45 . The Sommelier was excellent.. she was attentive without being pushy . As other said , music was loud .. Led Zeppelin, Ac/Dc and other rock music .. while I enjoy those bands , I don’t think that music “ fits “ the venue . We felt rushed the whole entire time , but ignored their gestures . Since we dropped 600.00 . Definitely , not an intimate place for two . Food arrived .. 2 pasta dishes , lamb chops and seafood dish . Our pasta was average .. my husband is Italian and was not happy with the bolognese sauce .. he didn’t even finish it . My pasta with braised oxtail was just ok .. not a lot of flavor . My friends lamb chops were good . Had two “ nothing special “ desserts . All in all , I’ll cross it off my bucket list but much better restaurants in the city . I think Babbo has seen better days .
Amazing food, amazing service!!!!!
We were looking forward to dining at this restaurant but the food and ambiance feel short of our expectations. Although I really liked the black spaghetti everything else we ordered were just blah. We were a party of 4 and ordered 2 bottles of wine and in addition to a few apps. Additionally, The loud music choice seemed inappropriate for a “high end” Italian fine dining.
Branzino was excellent. Didn’t enjoy the pasta so much
One word - FABULOUS!!
The service, the attentiveness, the food, the ambiance - everything was just perfect. And let's not forget the sommelier. She was quite knowledgeable. Thank you...thank you...thank you!
First time and was impressed. Meal was excellent. Only bad think is wine is very expensive.
I would go back
Just not as good as it use to be. The food was okay. Loud club music was playing downstairs and the kitchen was very slow. The service was good. I remember the first time I eat there and how everything seemed so special especially the food.
Our favorite dish is no longer on the menu. Very disappointed
Great staff. Food was just ok. Interesting choice of music in an Italian restaurant.
Very good food
Service staff knows the dishes
Very good restaurant
