What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
Staff was extremely attentive, pasta with mushrooms and charred beef tongue was extremely tasty and atmosphere was lovely. Not the 1st time there and we will be back many more times.
Food was great! Loved the sommelier. We had an amazing night!
The service was impeccable and the ambiance is always lovely. The food was mostly wonderful. The pastas were a bit bland and served Luke warm.
Great! Knowledgeable sommelier, Ren.
Used to be better or perhaps it was simply an off night. Pasta courses were merely warm and entrées lacked the usual refinement of prior meals.
Excellent overall experience
Fantastic food and service. How all Michelin star restaurants should be (but are often not)
The food was amazing. The waiters were very hospitable. However, the sommelier was condescending and rude. The music was not in keeping with the ambience of a traditional Italian restaurant and enoteca and was also too loud to be able to carry a conversation at a table of 4. When we passed along this criticism to upper management, they became very defensive and made it clear that they disagreed and had no intention of taking this as a consideration. There’s a more appropriate way to take customer criticism even if you have no intention of changing.
Returned after long absence (we are UK .based)
Fabulous welcome and food
..loved it
We first went after a recommendation and we would recommend very highly, in turn.
Only tiny drawback is the limited washroom facility
Dare I say, this is one of the best (if not thee best) Italian resturant in NYC. It’s big brother, Del Posto, may be its only real competition. Food, service, and staff are all top notch. That said, consistent is it’s middle name. I’ve dined here numerous times yet keep coming back for its sheer greatness. As always, Babbo is an experience!
Food was very underwhelming given it’s reputation, proteins were under seasoned, brussel sprouts were over cooked with large chunks of pancetta
Outstanding
A little loud but alive and vibrant.
System to sit at the bar could have been clearer.
I would walk-in more if I was comfortable about how potentially long the wait was.
We had the tasting menu. The lone pasta dish was the star of the show, everything else was just ok. We did not enjoy our first dessert which was noticed by on of the staff, and the maitre d brought us a different selection of desserts which was nice. Overall ok but ultimately underwhelming
Fantastic place all around. First time back in almost 10 years and so happy to see nothing has changed in terms of quality and service. Service is top-notch, food is all around incredible. Every single employee we interacted with was helpful, friendly, and warm. Made it a very special night for a birthday celebration. I was incredibly impressed to see employees in the back using gloves to handle the food even when no one was looking. Makes me feel good about food safety and cleanliness here. This place is a neighborhood institution and I give it my highest recommendation.
The food was delicious. Service was outstanding and the Sommelier terrific. Thanks for a great night.
Consistently great through the years, in terms of service & cuisine.
Babbo is still a great place to dine, although the downstairs scene was way to noisy and crowded. But the pasta is still the best in town and I hope to visit sooner than later.
Wonderful food and atmosphere! We will definitely be back!
I will love Babbo again when Mario Batali is bought out. I cannot fully enjoy a meal here until he is.
Simply one of NYCs best.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable visit (as always). Great food and special service. The waitress upstairs is very professional and helpful and really knows the menu. She steered us in good directions.
We had reservations, but still a 40 minutes wait due to previous party not vacating table. Bartender was friendly and generous with pours. Kitchen prepared special appetizer for us on the house.
Service was excellent! Food was superb! Will definitely be back!
Was there on a second date. Had asked for a quiet table and got Table 2 which seemed cool. Ordered the arugula salad and chestnut ravioli. Both excellent. Had a couple Bourbon cocktails, the Manhattan Nero. They didn't carry Makers and the brand recommended I had never heard of. Our server had a heavy accent and was hard to understand and wasn't the most friendly. The second server seemed more consistent in his serving. He was also adept at serving the drinks in metal shakers with some theatrics. Although they asked about coffee (I had tea), they never mentioned dessert, nor brought a dessert menu. Didn't think anything of it at the time since I was enjoying the time with my date, but it seemed like a real miss. The maitre d' was a real pro and old school. You don't see many around like him anymore.
The atmosphere here was very good. But I honestly do not know if the food was delicious. I ate steak, but the meat was too tough. Also It was uncomfortable because my seat next to the bathroom.
Absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the pasta tasting menu with wine pairings and we were so glad we did. One of the best meals we've ever had.
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere, helpful and friendly wait staff. We loved this restaurant!
Food and service is excellent. The only thing about The Smith is the noise level. Hard to hear the person sitting across from you. Great place to go after work.
I have been to babbo numerous times throughout the years and on this last visit I feel like it has lost its touch a bit. I felt the appetizer and our main meat entree was great but the pasta did not live up to my expectations or my memory from previous dining’s.
Eaten here 50 times... tonight the truffle menu was awful... could have been mushrooms...Not a Batali restaurant any longer. Awful!
Amazing! Went for anniversary dinner and they made it extra special. The food and service were both incredible.
Sadly, Babbo is a shadow of its former self. One of our favorite NYC eateries over the years, the experience this time was a true disappointment. We opted for the traditional tasting menu with wine pairing. After a 3 1/2 hour parade of mediocre plates, parsimonious wine pours and inattentive service, we realized that Babbo will forever be a memory. Farewell.
Vibe is good and service is good. Food is average or poor.
As usual it is very rare that you have a poor experience at Babbo. As usual our food was superb as well as the service. My only complaint is the music playing in the background. It is loud and annoying. If I wanted to hear music I would attend a concert. I came to Babbo to enjoy the food, service and the company I was with. I will definitely return but something needs to be done about the background music.
Amazing food and service...Every single bite especially the pork chop and a grilled octopus
Haven’t eaten at Babbo in many years. Everything was fantastic. Truly a great way to start off a weekend in NYC.
It was my birthday
Great experience
The food was some of the best ever. The Duck was the best. The all Italian wine list takes you on a tour all over Italy.
The best food and always a great album playing to create a fun ambiance. I love Babbo!
Sometimes it's a good idea to try the specialty of the house and, or dishes that have been highly recommended by others. Such was the experience of the Bucatini all'Amatriciana at Babbo. The deep rich flavors of the guanciale used in the red sauce explode in your mouth and create the memorable tastes you hope for and just put a smile on your face. Excellent bread here also, with perfectly crisp crust that wasn't too hard to bite and a chewy slightly sour dough interior. We had the octopus appetizer which was cooked to perfection, not an easy task, and the rabbit which was also very good. Perfect, friendly, professional service as well. We'll be back! Again.
