What Insiders Are Saying
Babbo is still the best place to feel good in this town.
I requested to be attended to quickly because of a off Broadway show I was attending, waiter was excellent with getting to us and out food quickly (oddly though a bit too quick). Ordered the Orecchiette with rabini and sweet sausage. My date has the pasta (thin spaghetti) with lobster. My pasta had an bit of an odd odor to it, not sure if that was from the water? or something else, I did eat the meal but was not happy with my selection. I would visit restaurant again and choose a different dish.
We enjoyed it and will be back. The food was fantastic as well as the wine.
My birthday 🎂
As usual, best restaurant ever.
Expected more. Food just ok. The place ia not nice especially the 1st floor. Not a 1 star restaurant. My black truffle did not taste like truffle. The wine list is great with cora vin.
Lamb was cold. Service was poor waited 30+ minutes between dishes
It has really declined. The server could care less, the food was not thoughtfully executed and the space was so cramped it ruined the dinner.
Never disappoints. Fantastic evening, pre-theater dining experience.
A friend and I went to Babbo for a leisurely Saturday lunch. The grilled calamari was very good. My friend enjoyed her beet salad. And the wine was excellent. But the highlight of our meal was a white truffle pasta we shared. It had wide silky ribbons of pasta with a bit of butter and shaved truffles on top. It was spectacular. And the service was top notch. Very impressive. There are many excellent options in Manhattan but I
will definitely go to Babbo next time I am in NYC.
Buena comida y buena servicio
Totally disappointed. Food very ordinary. Not worthy of the price and the hype.
Faded glory. Looks like nothing has changed in the past 15 years. I assume owners are getting ready to close. We were only 2 diners at 2 pm in the dining room. It’s over
Love, love, love Babbo. The Platonic ideal of Italian food.
One of the best Italian dinners I've had in a while. I can't to go back.
We love Babbo, but, the later you go (even though they are open late) the worse the service gets. This was the second time our waiter left in the middle of our dinner. The pasta dishes were exceptional, but the fish was over-cooked and I ordered the rabbit which I did not like.
Food was generally quite good; had the pasta tasting menu (which has dramatically increased in price over the past years). Found the first dish too salty, also was a bit surprised to find plain old pasta with bolognese meat sauce as one of the dishes but overall very good.
The music I found stressful and not conducive to fine dining (Babbo not the only one who does this): high energy pop, with lots of percussion.
Had the pinoli torte for dessert, way too sweet.
Excellent food! Excellent service. We had a really good time at the restaurant, and we enjoy everything we orden.
Linguine with clams had no flavor ..tasted like clams, noodles and pasta water
Pappardelle pasta was nice and sauce was very was good.
Salad options are not good... arugula salad ..ehh
Table was cramped and next to the main door.. where people enter and exit and the wind blows. Why would someone want to have a nice meal sitting there?
Too much A/C and upstairs room not as cosy but impeccable
Food and service
Service: too many chiefs, not enough Indians... bad. I kept having to ask for everything thrice.
Food: hit and miss: linguini clams over cooked by 5 minutes. pork belly ravioli very good.
Food was delicious. We did the pasta tasting menu and told the waiter we wanted to add white truffles to one of my husband's courses. Someone other than our server came to grate the truffles for us. I told him I didn't want any (it cost $60 to add them to a plate, which was about half the cost of the tasting menu itself, so I figured I would try the dish as it came and try a bite of my husbands). He grated a generous amount of truffles over my husband's plate--you could barely see the pasta underneath--and insisted that I should try "just a little" on mine. I acquiesced and he grated a very small portion onto my pasta, which I thought was nice and generous until I realized that they had charged us another $60 for them. If I had known I would be charged I would have declined the truffles or at least asked him to give me the same, generous portion he had given my husband. This left a bad taste in my mouth (not literally, the truffles were delicious) even though the service and food had been excellent. I thought the ambiance on the first floor was nicer than the upstairs dining room where we sat. If we ever go back I think we will just order from the regular menu but it was fun to try to the tasting menu on our first visit.
Very professional and attentive service. The somalier was very helpful with suggestions for wine from their extensive list. The food choices were unusual and new for me but everything tasted fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place if it’s in your price range. Wonderful for a special dinner out
Antipasti (Grilled Octopus) and primi (Goose Liver Ravioli) were outstanding.
the main courses were average at best. Dessert - Saffron Panna Cotta was great, Concord Grape Schiacciata was dry, plain.
Service was outstanding.
Overall - some disappointment (not my first time, my experiences before were very good) over the food.
too noisy, too dark. Great service - applause.
I just love their black ink spaghetti so so much, the taste is mildly and delicately delicious and goes so well with the rock shrimp and pancetta
Amazing food, great ambiance and service! Go and try it!
Returning to Babbo after over 15 yrs and happy to say it's kept up it's ambience and quality of real Italian food. Made res for 2 at 10:30 and when we changed it to 3 he only made us wait 10 more mins. We had wonderful meals & a memorable evening we will take with us back to Santa Monica. Wine price a little high but I'm in NYC.
Overpriced for what we were eating. Surprised with a couple of very expensive ‘add ons’. Too many people around the table - clearing, setting and serving.
Superior feeling from the staff. This was our third and final time at Babi. A restaurant on the decline in our opinion.
$750 for 3 people... again, too much for what we experienced.
I'm 41 years old, but my date and I were shocked at the average age of the venue being 55+
Food & Service were outstanding, but after two apps, two entrees and a bottle of $110 wine our bill was Over $300 for two. The music being played was 80's rock, which did not suit the fabulous ambiance of the venue.
While the bar is cozy & romantic, the hostess did not offer to take our umbrellas on a pouring rain evening; seemed odd for a restaurant able to fetch these prices.
Bartenders were extremely attentive and happy to make our craft cocktails. I'd come back once a year perhaps, but won't seek out the venue regularly.
We loved the food the last time we came and were really excited about going back. This time however the waiter knocked a glass of water all over our birthday guest and didn’t change the table cloth so it kept damply hanging into his lap. We had to ask them 3 times to change the tablecloth. Then his lamb chops were overdone. So that took down the experience a bit especially since the special guest was the one with the disappointing dish. I still really like Babbo but it’s no longer my top favorite in the city.
Excellent menu selection and outstanding service. The wine list is extensive, but the staff are very helpful with wine selection. The setting is very inviting and I hope that I can visit the restaurant again in my next visit to the city. The food was outstanding and the menu is quite varied.
Some of the best pasta dishes I have ever had, great for any special occasion.
The wait staff was incredibly attentive, the dishes were amazing, and the ambience on the upstairs level was romantic. A+.
Amazing food. A special treat! Great pasta, wine list, cocktails
Great restaurant, the service is very professional and helpful.
Food was amazing, all dishes taken were very tasty.
As a lover of this restaurant for over 10 yrs, this was a very disappointing experience and service was not even near the standard we have grown to expect. So disappointkng! Everyone was so over confident.
If you want really well cooked food using the freshest ingredients, good service and a nice atmosphere, Babbo's has it. Added an interesting menu; I need to come often to eat through everything which appealed.
Good food, not great. Incredible service, but much much much better restaurants in NYC for half the price.
Amazing best pasta
Pasta dishes were excellent. We later ordered 4 different deserts and they were just okay! I will go back for pasta and wine. It is cozy restaurant with 2 levels. Upstairs has more light and high ceilings and I would prefer upstairs.
