Drinks are great, ambiance is fun, but loud, food is good, not as good as Ambar upstairs.
The tapas-like food was spaced out so we could talk and appreciate it more. The balkan wine list provided different experiences. Enjoyed, already told friends and plan on coming back.
We had a birthday brunch (small group) here, food was so delicious, vibe of Baba was very cool including a DJ and comfy seating, and service was outstanding. Would definitely recommend/visit again!
Eat dinner first. Portions were smaller than most of trendy D.C. Tapas places.
We absolutely love coming to Baba. The drinks are phenomenal! The tapas are amazing and the customer service is fantastic! We have become regulars and will keep coming back!
I love this restaurant! They are always so hospitable. Make a reservation to ensure you get a table, it gets packed :)
Everything about our brunch at Baba was wonderful. Fun atmosphere and decor with Grandma's decor and a DJ. The buffet spread was full of unique Balkan dishes such as goulash and different spreads as well as traditional standbys for the less adventurous. Don't miss the veggie omelet, ajvar spread, and the veal sliders. Cocktails were fun as well, we particularly enjoyed both the beet and the celery libations. Our server was very attentive and fun. Will definitely be back and recommend this place to others!
I adore this place; ambient music is a tad loud to allow for free conversation (in the section with arm chairs).
We were told it was unusually quiet, because they generally have a DJ on Sundays and it is a party. We LOVE quiet and calm, so were grateful for our luck - the DJ was unexpectedly absent. Fun decor, quietly effective servers, attentive management. The food is wholesome, homey and interesting - Eastern European. We did the Sunday brunch buffet, which allows you to order fresh from the menu, too! The salmon benedict was especially nice with a perfectly poached local egg, and my husband's slider was yummy. Their bacon was an unusual smoke, but delicious. I generally don't like mac and cheese, but theirs was tasty and creamy (I doubt that's an ethnic dish!) When they found out it was my birthday, they did the best b-day special ever - a black slate tray with Happy Birthday stenciled in powered sugar, a single candle and three each (one for each of us) lovely little dessert bites. If you value quiet, which is evidently not always the case, you might want to call ahead for the plan for the time slot you're aiming for.
With this visit I have now bought into the tapas style and LOVE IT! Most of the things we ordered were on the recommendation of our server...Everything was amazing! We will definitely visit again if we return to town!
Great ambiance, tasty small plates, intriguing cocktails and friendly service
Baba is a truly unique experience in the heart of Clarendon, where chain retail and restaurants are becoming more prevalent. Our intro visit was excellent! The small plates were delicious and gracious servers a pleasure to interact with. We loved our Moldovan wine, too. This is a lounge/bar where a creative take on Balkan cuisine, bevs and ambiance make you feel far away. I'm still thinking the of the roast cauliflower, the seared tuna and smoked gouda tapas days later. Highly recommend!
Amazing brunch with an amazing staff! Nobody does it better!
Baba was SO great! Went here with a group of friends and the vibe is awesome - small and cozy, great service, and they do NOT rush you out the door when you're done eating. 8 friends and I sat and enjoyed several drinks after we'd eaten our small plates and had a great time. The music was good, not too loud, and the decor is absolutely adorable. A perfect place for a date, brunch, or happy hour. We will definitely be back!
Fun place. Very different. Excellent "speak easy" drink concoctions! Not your average restaurant, very eclectic. Food was yummy. We had a great time. Service was wonderful.
My ratings are low because the portions were too small to qualify as a restaurant week value sampling. The food was tasty and well-prepared with beautiful presentation but we left hungry. We don't have huge appetites either but our noticeable hunger let us to the Whole Foods deli nearby to have half of a sandwich so our stomach would be satisfied.
Great ambience, great food and exceptional service!!
expensive for the portion size, fun drinks but we had to go out elsewhere to complete the meal
Loved the atmosphere, warm and intimate. Unlike so many restuarant now, you aren't crammed together so you feel like you can have a real conversation. The small plates were all tasty, I particularly liked the slider. If you decide to part in their lot make sure you know your license plate number so you can give it to them when you check in!
This place was fantastic! There was a big party that was set up for the time I was scheduled to come in. Mariana called me to see if I would reschedule and she mentioned a glass of champagne on the house. I was flexible and thought the champagne was a joke, but when my friend and I sat down, we were greeted within minutes with a glass of champagne each. Then later Mariana came over to meet us and personally thank us for our flexibility. It was amazing to be treated so well for something so easy for us.
The food was so good too! I had the Wild Forest Mushrooms, which were scrumptious. Then I had the Seafood Olivier which was my absolute favorite item! It has scallops and calamari and the sriracha tarragon mayo had such an enjoyable kick. The last thing I had was the dry-aged rib eye, which was so tender and yummy! For the cocktail that was included in the Restaurant Week package, I had the Zastava Sidecar. If you like plum wine, you will love it! And I did.
Thanks for the great night! I don't think you can go wrong here.
Decided to try this place for the first time during restaurant week because the deal included 3 dishes plus a cocktail. The Serbian Sombrero was SO GOOD. My boyfriend is vegetarian and the menu had a great selection to accommodate him. All of the dishes that we tried were very tasty - I especially loved the salmon tartare, but I was surprisingly very full by the time it arrived at my table so I wasn't able to finish it all. I would definitely like to return!
The ambiance is awesome! This place has the feel of an upscale speakeasy. The food was great but very small even for a “small plate.” The cocktails were well crafted and the service was 5 stars.
Happy hour cocktails are a great value and tend to be really delicious mixes of surprising flavors. The bites we had were tasty, especially the Gouda appetizer and the hand-made chips.
Super comfy chairs, delicious food, excellent service.
Amazing as always! The food and the service here are outstanding. I wish my schedule would allow me to go more often.
Such a cute and cozy place. The food and drinks were delicious and unique! I highly recommend for dinner/drinks/and of course the awesome brunch! I will be back.
Food was amazing. Drinks even better. I really was surprised to see a Balkan menu with an American twist in the area. Cool atmosphere with great service.
perfect size portions of delectable food. excellent cocktails. great service.
Just grabbed some drinks, solid spot, really loud though
I am a repeated customer, love their happy hour. Plates are small but good value and very very tasty! Gets noisy. That's my observation from the last two times. Both times there was a large group at the bar area. Great service! Will come again and recommend everyone!
My first time here with a business colleague. Great service and a unique menu.
I will go again.
We had an wonderful time meeting for brunch. The staff and service were simply amazing, and went more than the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed ourselves and our experience at BABA. The variety of unique cuisine items and hand crafted brunch cocktails, especially at the price, made this venue an exceptional value. Would highly recommend!
We had the Sunday Brunch and it was delicious. One of us is a vegan and one loves meat!! We both found enough to be pleasantly filled. The buffet is slightly higher in price than some other buffets in the area but the ambiance is worth the expenditure. We were impressed with the introduction to the buffet by the hostess who demonstrated great pride in her culture and food. Thanks.
Good food - went for brunch and didn’t do the unlimited. 2 drinks + an entree was only $22 and the service was excellent!
Baba does not disappoint in giving authentic Balkan dining experience. The tapas deal is pretty good and the ambiance is excellent! Each plate was fantastic, simplistic but amazing in flavor. Splurging on a rakia drink is worth it!
Creatively cooked and presented dishes. We both chose the pick three dishes. This was an excellent way to enjoy a variety of flavors and textures. Be prepared for small dishes. We actually ordered a third round of pick three to round out the corners.
Our only quibble is that not all the plates were divisible by 2 ie three scallops rather than four. The chocolate mousse was by far the best dessert dense and rich with parsnips! We preferred a crispier baklava than the one they served.
Waiter was great, surprised to see they had a live DJ trying to stifle conversation with house beats. Disappointed he wasn’t playing Serbian turbo or other Balkan modern genres.
Loved the brunch - tons of selection and a great value. Oatmeal bar, french toast, meats, cheeses, bacon, sausage, nutella crepes, bureks, paninis, and different spreads. Plus, made to order sliders and omelettes, and $1 cocktails in a great setting.
Great atmosphere, service, food and cocktails. This was my first time at Baba and I look forward to going back!
Nice ambiance, food and great service. You will find the place uniquely pleasant.
Was already a fan of Ambar and decided to finally try Baba. Great little place. Despite being in the basement, it's super cozy and feels homey. The brunch buffet was fantastic, particularly the ajvar and the baklava. Definitely going back!
