Bab Tooma is located in the world's oldest inhabited city, Damascus, Syria. It may have been inhabited as early as 10,000 BC. It became an important settlement after the arrival of Aramaeans. Damascus has since been in Roman, Arab, and Ottoman possession, its wealth of historical attraction made it a popular tourist destination. Bab Tooma is one of the main seven gates that surrounds Damascus. It was built by the Greeks and called Venus (Goddess of Love & Beauty). After the Byzantines ruled and Christianity introduced to the region in the fourth century, they lastly called it the Gate of Saint Thomas who was a pupil of Jesus Christ. In addition, it has the largest and oldest mosque in the world (Umayyad Mosque) that stands out next to Bab Tooma. Both historical landmarks represent unity and diversity for Syrian people at its best. Therefore, we are proud to bring people together in our little gem to have a taste of the ideal authentic feasts from all over the Middle East.
