Food was at best mediocre.Standard food like the Dal was prepared in a sub standard manner that made it sweet. The butter chicken seemed to be prepared in a similar gravy. Chicken 65 was the favorite of the whole lot that we ordered.
They don't seem to have the basics down. What is supposed to be fusion is actually sub par standard Indian fare.
Special mention to the server who threw dishes with a loud bang on the table while quickly yelling out the name of the dish. Baar baar was advertised as a fine indian but at best serves like a college canteen.
Delicious food, and they were very understanding and helpful with one of our group’s gluten allergy. We were able to eat and share almost everything on the menu.
Modern-contemporary indian dishes served in a chic and sceney ambiance. Fun for a night out!

We’ve been to Baar Baar over 10 times in the last year and this has been our worst experience. The naan had stone particles in it. We bit into hard particles on both our plain and garlic naan. Not acceptable for a restaurant that costs ~$150 for a 2 person meal. Although we had open table reservation, it took them over 20 minutes to get us seated.
Eaten here before and always love the food. This time I was disappointed because the music was so loud conversation was impossible. This hasn’t been a problem before, if it continues I will not be going back.
Amazing food. Cute ambiance. The service is lacking a wee bit of attentiveness... but it could just be because my recent experiences have been on Sundays and I drink my wine faster than the average person :). All in all, a fantastic restaurant!
Everything from being seated to being served took far too long despite reservations and the servers were nice but I think they were short staffed/overworked which took everything doubly long to get done.
The hosts were just plain rude every time you asked them a question.
The food was good as always.
When a friend or a co worker ask me let’s meet for dinner. I can’t think of any other place better than BAAR BAAR..
Disappointed this time around. Was looking forward to our re-visit, food was good but service was lacking. First brought the wrong cocktail and then forgot one of the small plates which was brought with dinner with no apology or explanation. Definitely was not as good as previous visit.
Birthday and it was amazing
I have never had an Indian dining experience like Baar Baar. The chicken 65 was the softest, most tender fried chicken I’ve ever had, and loaded with spice and flavor. The lamb dish with bread is also a must. Drinks are unusual but good, and the service was attentive and helpful.
BAAR BAAR was a wonderful dining experience. A truly innovative & eclectic approach to Indian cuisine. If you adore Indian cuisine & wish to step out of the box, then Baar Baar is the right place. The oysters, the prawns & most of all the divine pork belly will have you drooling & coming back with friends. I want to come back to experience the Bollywood Brunch one weekend! I highly recommend this gastro jewel in the East Village. You will be not be disappointed.
Really excellent food! Every dish was interesting and had amazing flavoring, even the cocktails were unique and flavorful. Some dishes are a little hot, if you are sensitive to that. The chili prawns for example set my mouth on fire, but at the same time were super tasty. We will order fewer dishes next time as the 5 small dishes ended up being a lot of food for two people, so next time we'll keep it simpler. Service was great. We will definitely be back!
Went for Brunch all ordered food came out cold. No value for the $35 / person. Great if you have been constipated for a few days this will clear you out $100 wasted #smh never again.

The overall experience was amazing. Food was yummy and interesting and the staff were very friendly. I will differently come again
our waiter was very unfriendly and not chatty or smiling at all. We tipped her 20% nonetheless. Two people at the check in were quite unpleasant and arrogant as well. Food was excellent and other service staff were excellent too.
Sunday brunch was fantastic. Live entertainment was an added bonus. I found the special priced at $35 to be reasonable with many nonalcoholic drink choices.
We went to Baar Baar after reading the good reviews. We ordered the following and my comments are:
1. Piquillo Pepper and inion Kulcha: bland and could not understand which taste bud was it trying to hit
2. Lamb keema: very good
3. Chilli garlic prawn: very good but needed a little more salt and kick
4. Red snapper: absolutely bland, was not even seasoned well, just did not taste fresh. It was a big disappointment.
5. Chutneys: ok
Concept of small plates is great.
Cocktails are good and they are trying to experiment. Service was very good. The server was very attentive and gave some good suggestions. We had to wait for them to open after lunch and it could be that we were there for early dinner. We spent about $150 for 2.

Very good... today it was Bollywood dance theme at brunch so we had to sit at patio as they don’t allow kids.
Loud but with a nice ethnic vibe. Food was innovative though still average. One and done.
We, a party of three, went as part of restaurant week. We all had to order off the RW menu which was disappointing as one of us was a vegetarian and he wanted something a la carte. That being said, we shared our appetizers -CAULIFLOWER KOLIWADA, POTATO TIKKI, and LAMB KEEMA HYDERABADI. The lamb was exceptional. The PANEER PINWHEEL as a main course for our veggie friend was just ok. Butter Chicken is usually boring but it was what appealed to the two of us who were not veg and it was very tasty. Service was friendly and we were allowed to linger over dessert. We recommend and will return.

We were here for dinner recently during restaurant week. We were a party of 4 and got to try many different items from the menu. Everything was extremely delicious! Will definitely go back later to try other options. A must try for Indian food lovers! 😀

We visited Baar Baar as part of NY Restaurant Week, and had a great experience! The servings were smaller but perfect for a three course meal.
THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE - RUINED MY BIRTHDAY !!!
I had booked this place for my bday celebrations for 10:00pm on 8/7. I had called them in advance to inform that I was running 10-12 mins late due to rain/ weather. I was told that the kitchen closes at 10:30pm and I need to order before that. I had placed my order by 10:25pm. Out of 4 things I ordered- they were out of stock/ no food available for 2 dishes. They practically had no food left .
The service was bad- the server was RUDE and unapologetic for the experience.
The fact that it was my bday - they had no remorse in ruining the night for me.

It is just a fancy restaurant with slightly modern take on food. Nothing great and definitely not gastro cooking.
A frequent diner .. never disappointed.. everything on the menu tastes good and has distinct flavors.

Food was amazing and we had a great dinner - service was just quite slow. Waiting 30-45 minutes for main dishes after appetizers, and then another 30-45 minutes for dessert... food was great, but wait was not. would still go back!

The only thing we didn’t like was that one of us wanted to order off the regular menu but we were told it was Restaurant Week policy not to allow both. I’m not sure if that was the case because I have been to other restaurants during restaurant week and our party ordered off both the regular and restaurant week set menu.
