Decide to re-visit to support an old establishment B44 in light of slow down in the SF dining due to Virus scare. Unfortunately, the food was not to par & the service was practically none despite that the restaurant was almost empty on a Saturday night.
To add salt to the wound they charged 20% service for 5 adults & a baby and also the 4% SF health surcharge. We went home disappointed & hungry. This is definitely a place for tourists that won't likely return, no local savvy dinners will patron. Sorry.
Great spot for a business lunch! It was easy to secure a spot for my group of 5 with OpenTable. We got outdoor seating because it was a pretty nice day. The server was mindful of all our dietary restrictions since I'd written a note beforehand, and was able to make menu suggestions accordingly. There's not /too/ many vegetarian/vegan options, but enough to get by. The paellas are delicious and there was a vegetarian one which I enjoyed. Patatas bravas was made vegan by keeping the dip on the side.
I only docked a star because although it wasn't that busy, the service was a bit slow towards the end - we had to ask three times for our water to be refilled, and we asked two different waiters. They took the empty bottle away promptly mid-service but didn't bring back a new one until we were settling up. Not a deal-breaker, I'd still come back.
Jose was an amazing server, he took so good care of us! The food was amazing as well, so definitely we’ll be coming back
Wonderful Catalan & Spanish food that brings me back to Barcelona. It's a fantastic place to enjoy food & company, and the location downtown makes it fun to host visiting guests.
The ambiance was nice and the service was good. The sangria was not great. It really lacked flavor. The tapas we had were good. The real disappointment for us was the paella. We had the B44 special paella and it was unexciting and not very tasty. We love paella and came here for the paella especially. We probably wouldn't go back because overall it just didn't meet our expectations. Location is good!
Took too long to serve. Ran out of key menu items!
I love this place and the food is amazing. Every entree and appetizers were delicious.
This is a cheerful and reliable place to get good Catalan tapas, paellas and other specialties. The waitstaff is responsive and helpful, the atmosphere pleasant and not crowded and the noise level permits quiet conversation. There is a good full bar and an ample moderately priced wine list. We go there relatively often when we dine in the city and are always satisfied. Cheap public parking is available three blocks away at the Sutter/Stockton garage.
lunch sandwiches were amazing and a good amount of food for the price.
Excellent food and sangria.
Real delicious food!!
The food and ambiance was good but the staff was stretched thin. Only 3 servers for the whole place and one of them was also the bartender. I will come back to try other things on the menu and hope we just caught them on an off night for staffing.
The restaurant is on a cute alley that makes you feel you're in Europe somewhere. The food is tasty and service is efficient. My food was a little salty for my taste.
Service is slow and unprofessional
This is a great spot - great vibe, good food, and a fun spot for a work dinner. The prices are a little bit high, but it is SF. Service was a little bit slow and they could have used one more server on the floor. Otherwise, the servers were totally nice and accommodating.
Everything at the restaurant was really spectacular. The pre-dinner cocktails were creative. Our service probably could’ve been a little more refined but was not bad. And the sword fish on the menu was cooked to perfection. I may never have something that good in a swordfish steak again!
Outstanding dinner and A+ wine recommendations
The heater inside the restaurant was extremely strong. And, my seat was right in front of the heater. I asked to change the seat to outside one. But heater outside was broken.
Excellent service... food was a little salty for my taste otherwise was very yummy
Fabulous paella, though the New Years prix fixe menu was a bit pricey.
Food mediocre at best. Not worthy of Catalan food destination. Way too noisy- couldn’t hold conversation with friend at same table
Service was good. Food was so-so
Wait time was a bit long but the food was excellent. The waitress was friendly but made an unnecessary comment. My friend and I shared a sangria but then she said that “it’s cheaper that way”. It had nothing to do with being cheaper. We wanted to share the sangria....period! If we wanted to be cheaper then we wouldn’t be at your restaurant.
Only one waitress for the lunch period. The food was mediocre some of our group had to send their meal back as it was not cooked thoroughly. I know this restaurant can do better, it’s a shame they have let the standards drop
Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and gave us great recommendation. The food was over the top. Came out at a very good pace and the hot meals came out hot.
We wanted to love this place. They failed to put our order in the system which lead to over an hour wait for our food. They were mildly apologetic and proceeded to ignore our table until we left. We had to actively get their attention to pay the bill. I ALWAYS tip fairly as I was formerly a service industry employee but this experienced was unacceptable. Personally, I tried hard not to get upset and gave them every benefit of the doubt. In the end, it was not a place I can recommend.
Wonderful ambiance, food was excellent and seemed quite authentic. We had a great time
Super slow service and rude staff. I arrived at 6:45 and was seated immediately, but no one came to take our orders until 7:10. By 7:50 we hadn't received any of our food. I went to ask a waitstaff about the status of our food and said we'd been waiting for a long time, and he rolled his eyes at me and went, "Do you see this place?" to indicate how busy they were. They weren't actually that busy, and it wasn't a situation that required snark on his end.
Great service! felt well taken care of by all of the wait staff, and the food was okay
Food was great, but appetizers came with the entree. Sangria had no fruits in yet, just 1 piece of orange. The staff was very nice!
We’ve been coming here for some time now. Best paella in the Bay Area! Will be back.
The only reason I've give 4 stars, is because the service was below average. The good was very good, sometimes a bit too oily to my taste. It seemed every time we needed something we had to "catch" a waiter, never once did they approach the table asking if anything is ok or if we need anything.
Fabulous food and great drinks.
The service was good but I was not impressed with the food. I wouldn’t go back.
Service was good but it was extremely loud
Was there with colleagues for a business lunch. Fast efficient, friendly and helpful service. Good food. Lots of small plates. Love the Patas Bravas not a fan of the Calamari. Will be back.
Great, authentic tapas! The wine selection is also amazing.
Went for a business lunch. I ordered the mixed greens which was too salty for my taste. Others had steak sandwich, salad sandwich, octopus. Everyone was happy with their food. The food is good but the service was very slow. Took us over an hour and 15 minutes and it was not full at lunch time. I recommend, but be proactive with your server getting orders in and request the check early.
Like all american restaurants, too loud.
Lovely tapas in Belden Place, a location I really enjoy as a little gem. Good value, tasty food. A bit understaffed.
