Great small plates. I had the paella with pork belly. It was good but not great.
Our waitress recommended an excellent red wine.
Overall, I would return.
Found it to be a bit loud. The pork belly was dry, rest of the food was good. Service was average
Love this place. They were a bit understaffed today, but our server acknowledged that at the beginning and they were very sweet throughout the meal. All 3 dishes came out at the same time, which made the food take awhile, I would have preferred the tapas before our paella was ready.
Good food and night location with patio seating, on the pricey side but good on occassion
Food was delicious. Our party of 8 had a good, fun time while having a business lunch.
Reservation system worked without any problems. The staff was friendly and professional.
Will return again, certainly.
Excellent, authentic regional Spanish food in a cozy atmosphere. Out-of-town friends were impressed. It's even better in warmer weather when you can enjoy the Belden Alley experience.
Fun. FUN. FUN!!! Food. Staff. Music. Great night!
We went here for Valentine's Day dinner, and it was awful, it ruined our night. Our food came out with hairs in it, at least 3, and the server said it was 'bread crumbs'. We could clearly see it was hair. We sent it back and they never sent a new one out. We order paella without pine nuts because of allergies and it came out with pine nuts after all, so we had to wait to get a new paella made for us. They took our water bottle away and never brought it back. Overall, terrible service, and after complaining, they did nothing to make up for it. The portion sizes are small and overpriced. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.
Spanish food choices. We had lunch. The garlic shrimp was very tasty. The other entree was a pasta. Service was good, as there weren't too many customers at the time we were there. I'd return another time to have the paella.
It was good!
We'll be coming back again! I booked our dining reservation online (easy) for our office group of 12 for the outside seating area for 11:45AM ( i called a couple of days closer to reduce to 6). What a perfect day to sit outside! Even if it hadn't been 70 and sunny, it appears they have heating lamps and a large transparent covering for rain and/or wind. Even situated in an alley, it seems large and other restaurants have similar setups on both sides of this patio (which then you have to look at the signs closely to make sure you enter the right patio.)
4 of the 6 ordered their own dish (paellas) which were large and looked delicious. Another colleague and I shared a few tapas (perfect for just 2). The lamb skewers and peppers stuffed w/ crab were delicious! We didn't care to much for the sausage w/ mashed potatoes (surprisingly). The fried calamari had the best seasoning! I sat there trying to examine what it was so I could replicate it at home; still don't have a clue. (I used to live in Monterey, CA - I've had a lot of calamari - this seasoning topped them all).
We all had a glass of wine and/or sangria and all enjoyed those too (even had a second glass - which is unusual but we felt so lax since half of the office was literally traveling for business and here we sat on a beautiful Friday lunchtime in San Francisco soaking up the food, the sun and warmth all cozy in the shade, and the alley seemed moderately quiet considering how busy all the restaurants.
Arroz Negre was delicious!
We were there for a birthday celebration. We had an awesome server. Food was good. We ordered a little bit of everything, great for sharing. We sat at the patio, which is very nice. Overall, it was great experience.
Worst service. Upon arriving we were not received warmly at either reception stands. I showed the server that I had a reservation for an out door table and he said it's full out there and he can't just make a table get up. We said we would wait and get a cocktail at the bar. The bar was full so we waited by the host stand and checked out the menu, one of the flustered servers came up and snatched the menu out of my girl friends hand and walked away. It's probably one of the rudest things I've encountered as far as service goes. The cocktails were tasty and enjoyable. I wish we got a bigger portion of paella for $27...also our server talked us out of a salad. Which I didn't understand.?
The food was cold, the meat was overcooked and not particularly flavorful, definitely not worth the price.
The fish soup was delicious. The paella had been kept under the warming lights too long and was a little dry on top but it had a good flavor and had plenty of seafood in it. We never did receive the bread we had ordered with the soup. I use restaurant week to discover new places to eat, and we will not be returning to this venue.
My wife and I had been wanting to go to B44 for quite a while, so we choose SF Restaurant Week to finally try it out. The food was amazing and we were especially wowed by the grilled quid brochettes and paella. But the service was lacking. At one point, after we finished our dinner, we were waiting for our dessert (and we'd ordered it with the rest of the meal) and we sat waiting for 20 minutes. When our server came by and we politely mentioned this to her, she snapped at us! "Yes!" she said angrily. "They're making it and it will come soon!"
Okay, the dessert was a creme brulee and chocolate mousse. How long does it take to "cook" a creme brulee and chocolate mouse? All they do is sear the top of the creme brulee so that it's crispy on top. They didn't cook the dishes right then and there because both of them came chilly, as if pulled out of the fridge. And we saw a table beside us, who'd ordered after us, get their dessert sooner.
So high marks for the food, low marks for the rude server. We gave her 15% but now, looking back, wish we hadn't. Cost for each order: $40. With tip and tax, the whole bill came to $105. I don't mind the price, but for that, you shouldn't have to put up with a snarly attitude -- not when there are three other equally great restaurants right next door.
Fun to visit Belsen Place and enjoy tapas and paella
I don’t know if anyone would spend 2 hrs to have a 2 course lunch . Food is not even up to par. Definitely would not recommend to anyone 👎
We got there early and it was crowded. We opted to sit outside with the heaters. The squid salad I could have everyday. The beans are so creamy, the squid perfectly grilled all tied together with the best dressing. Wish it were bottled.
During the entree, it started to get stormy outside and we had to move inside. The staff was very accommodating moving us inside. We both ordered the paella - excellent
Will be back
Food was very good but service was kind of slow.
It was dinner with my nieces. The service was great and food was good. It was better that there was 4 parties so we can try more dishes. Outdoor seating wasn’t cold and less noisy than indoor seating. We had a good time.
Love the food and tapas. Service was good even when it was busy.
Saddest excuse of a cheese platter we have ever had. Potata Bravas were decent.
I’ve been here from business meetings to friends’ get togethers, it’s always been super wonderful. The food is really amazing, I usually get the rack of lamb with a glass of Tempranillo. If you have room left over for dessert, try the chocolate option. Always book ahead if you can!
We chose B44 for the New Year’s Eve dinner because we are from Madrid, and as we were away from Spain we wanted to have a home made dinner. The place is alright, ambience is not bad, but the music was awful taking into account that it’s a Catalan/Spanish bistro, they could’ve played some rumba, flamenco or other typical Spanish music. Service was normal, not bad but not good either. Menu is short for all the wonders of the Spanish cuisine. The worst part of the restaurant is the food. We ordered a tabla de embutidos and one of cheese, as there wasn’t one with both (what is wrong with these people?), and they served 2 slices of jamon, 2 of chorizo and 2 of lomo with 3 pieces of cheese; the embutido was average turning to bad, as the one you can find at the supermarket in Spain for 1€ the package. This costed 35$ for 6 slices of embutido and 3 of cheese, wow. Then the bravas weren’t bad, salsa brava was ok, but it was a small bowl, lets say a fourth of what you’d get in Spain; for the price they charge they could’ve served something decent. Then the paella hortelana we asked for doesn’t even deserve to be called paella. Size wasn’t that horrible,1/4 or half of what you get in Spain, but the taste was awful, undercooked, unmatching ingredients and no taste at all; even my 15 y/o brother can cook a better paella at home than that. We ordered some Catalan tinto as well, which was not good. This is not a butthurt comment, it’s just that the food was pretty bad, and the sizes were ridiculous. At their prices they should be cooking some decent food, and the image they give of Spanish and Catalan cuisine is pretty bad. This restaurant in Spain wouldn’t last open not even for 3 months, and I know what I’m talking about as my family has a restaurant in Madrid. As a Spanish, I wouldn’t eat here ever again, and as someone who wants to taste Spanish cuisine, choose this place if you want to get overpriced bad try to be Spanish food. If not find a better Spanish restaurant.
Food was delicious! Ambience awesome!
Great ambiance on the outdoor heated patio!
Much louder than I remember. Waiter had a hard time hearing us order. Food rushed. Not very attentive. Had to ask for more water, etc.
I would rate this restaurant five star, but for the noise level. The well climate controlled patio is a better choice in this regard.
The red peppers stuffed with crab were delicious as well as the lamb keebobs. Service was a bit slow but it could have been because of the large groups that were there.
Great service and the food and drinks were excellent.
I just wished i had the whole plate of paella all to myself. The food was good and so were the wine bottles we ordered. The serverrs were friendly and efficient.
B44 is on the charming Belden alley and is nice enough inside. The food seems like tapas you'd get 20 years ago. Nothing really new or innovative about the food. The service was attentive but not extremely helpful with the menu. But man, oh man, it is almost UNBEARABLY LOUD. If you plan on having a conversation with your dinner partners, this is not the place.
The food is always fabulous! and love the Sangria! Server was a bit slow and took a long time to place order, but the rest was a 10 out of 10
The food was excellent.
We liked the squid and octopus the best. The Paella was delicious and Churros for desert was a nice finishing touch.
Amazing food from Catalan. Staff were attentive and helpful. Food was very authentic. Wine was great and reasonably priced. I'd definitely go again.
This restaurant disappointed me. Came with a couple friends. Way to loud inside. Although we were sitting in a back corner we had to shout throughout the entire meal to hear it other. In addition food service was so slow. The charcuterie plate took almost one hour to arrive. When we questioned the server as to why we had not received it his answer was that the kitchen was busy with the larger parties in the place. Unacceptable! We were done with our meal by the time that plate arrived. Couldn't wait to leave.
Food isn’t good and service is very slow. Potatoes bravas were dry and the sause is just mayo with some sort of tomato sause. Pork belly was flavorless. Disappointed.
B44 was AMAZING! I'd read the glowing reviews and didn't expect the place to live up to them, but it did and more. Everyone there was extremely warm and welcoming and the service was great. The food was FANTASTIC!! My boys and I went to Spain for Spring Break earlier this year and sought out the highest rated restaurants eating lots and lots of amazing Spanish food. B44 was as good as any place we ate in Spain and that is a very high bar. I definitely recommend B44 to everyone.
