Small menu and done well. Great service always. Nice bistro atmosphere with nice jazz music in the background. My kind of place
Lovely place to have dinner if you are going to an SF Jazz performance. The cocktails are great. The food is nice but the menu is not very varied.... I recommend the grilled Brussels sprouts! The staff is very nice and helpful. One issue with B-Side is that it is rather small and fills up quickly --- but my wife and I love the warm atmosphere.
Although B-Side is very convenient for dinner before a show at SF Jazz, we won't be returning. The food was average, and the waiter appeared to be extremely inexperienced. He didn't know if they had Bombay Sapphire, even though when I looked at the bar area it was sitting in plain sight. He was not friendly or welcoming in any way, just robotic. My blackened salmon was decent, but the carrots accompanying it were inedible. The tator tots had an odd spice and none of our party of four liked them. Salad with prawns was okay, but not worth returning for. We'll eat elsewhere next time.
What a great find! Really loved this restaurant. The brussel sprouts were to die for, the salmon amazing! The bread pudding...OMG! We would FOR SURE go again. It was a lovely dinner with great vibe.
The food was average. Nothing great. A solid B. Crazy loud when full. Obviously part of the SFJazz scene/clubhouse.
I would recommend b-side to a friend with the caveat about the excessive noise level.
B-Side is a very convenient spot to dine before a performance at SFJAZZ or nearby venues. Menu is limited, but offers variety enough to please any palate. Good wine and beer selection. Our waiter provided outstanding service. We'll be back.
Our second time here this week. On Sunday and Thursday we attended shows at SFJAZZ. We had brunch on Sunday and dinner on Thursday. Food excellent and service spectacular!
Perfect spot for dinner before a concert at Bill Graham Civic Auditorium!
Service was really poor. We would have ordered more food but it was taking a very long time for the wait staff to pay us any attention at all. We both ordered salads to start, were expecting we’d order another entree to share and a dessert. After finishing our salads, drinks and water we sat for 20 minutes with our waiter never appearing and no other wait staff coming around.
This was our second meal here and it will likely be our last.
A great place to eat quickly before going to see a performance.
Bar is good.
We had the best time. Arrived to have brunch at the restaurant before the 3:00 PM SFJazz performance. The host was very nice and let us know we could sit anywhere. The bartender and waiter was exceptional! He provided the best drinks and was great in servicing us.
Will definitely be back!
It is convenient if you are going to a show, and the food was ok.
Great brunch drinks and menu! Hidden Gem
Meh. The chive dish needs a different description on the menu. No serving utensils came with the shared plates. Waitress should notice empty plates and glasses and have a sense of the time when most diners are attending a show.
The best thing about the B side is its location at the SF Jazz Center. It was very convenient to have a drink and some salads before a concert. Service was good, and we enjoyed the choices on the wine list.
We ordered two different cocktails, one base on gin the other on rum, and both tasted exactly the same. The food was pretty bang average with the exception of the bread pudding which was very good. We had also sort of expected to have jazz playing in the restaurant, but no such luck. Not a place I would go again.
Quiet setting, attentive service, tasty comfort food, below typical SF prices. Great place to catch up with a friend in a contemporary living room-like ambience. Key lime pie a double thumbs up!
Wonderful food. Great menu for small appetites or large. Drinks yummy too.
1/3 orders was wrong and overall the feeling was that there was disarray from the waitstaff and kitchen. For the prices and ambiance, I was disappointed with the food quality.
Waiter hit on us as soon as we sat down. Ordered the Portobello Benedict and they brought out the veggie omelette for me. Had to send it back and when I got the original entree I ordered, it was incredibly bland. I’m really not the type of person to complain about food but this just was not enjoyable whatsoever. Probably our fault for going to a cocktail bar for brunch but they didn’t have an espresso machine or almond milk
Just a bit understaffed but even still great.
I was beyond very pleasantly surprised. The food was off the charts!! The tater tots were amazing as were your Brussels sprouts. I had the beet salad which was the best I have ever had. The service was equally fabulous. The vibe is cool! I would go there just for the food alone even if I was not there for a concert. Keep the chef!!!
I am a repeat customer as I enjoy B-Side and it is ultra convenient for pre-SFJazz dining. I went knowing this was a peak night as it was Saturday and very sold out performances. They are great about seating for reservations. the help were superbusy but managed to be attentive and amiable, which is really really commendable... that is something that can so easily fall apart so I give them credit for being on top of it.
One minor hiccup: I ordered the beloved Fried Chicken Sandwich with the option of the "side salad" that is lightyly dressed "mixed baby lettuce", cherry tomatoes etc. Mine came with 99% spinach - I can't eat raw spinach - a couple of leaves is ok but for sure not a whole salad. I worked out w/waitress to replace with a romaine w/same dressing (AFTER she tried to get me to order a separate Cesar salad, which I did not want to do); it took a bit too much work to make the simple fix for this but, as they say, all's well that ends well and I did get an alternate salad, AND know in future to handle this issue while ordering. (I have ordered this side salad before... the mix they had Sat. PM was spinach-heavy which might work for most, but I can't do that ... ) No biggie. Everything else about this dining experience fell nicely into place and set a great tone for an evening of amazing music. Highly recommend.
The food was so-so due to the soggy hamburger bun -- not a good idea and impossible to eat without a fork and knife. That was what I had to do and take the burger off the bun. Perhaps, toasting the bun properly would take care of that problem. I loved the service, and especially the bartenders, and one in particular. Please note his name is Desmond! The wine he suggested was excellent and superb to enjoy!
Average restaurant. Food was undersalted and nothing special. Would not go back.
Understaffed. Our entree never arrived. We were there for a birthday celebration and we had to go elsewhere to get our meal
Fabulous! Thank you.
Had a somewhat pleasant experience for Sunday lunch. Food was very good and arrived in a timely manner. Unfortunately there was only one waiter for the entire place. There were many tables for two available but we need more seating so we chose a 4 top that needed clearing. Our waiter cleared but I had flag down to ask for it to be wiped down. I had to eventually get up and get napkins and flatware setups from another table. Ice tea came and had to flag down waiter for sugar. Meal came and had to flag once more for salt and pepper. Food was great and we were able to take our time and enjoy the place. I like this place a lot and have eaten several dinners there. I think perhaps they were short staffed. I will be back again.
Perfect for before-theater dinner. Wonderful selection and great service.
Delicious food and excellent service. I would come back.
Love this place. Good menu and my favorite salmon dish makes me a happy diner!
It was a pleasant experience. I mentioned ahead about my special occasion and the staff was very accommodating.
Our waiter was very mindful of our immediate show after dinner.
Highly recommend for date or dinner before a show.
No Open Table points awarded for some reason
The restaurant's food, service and ambience were excellent. I love the food and if I could, I would eat there once a week!
The person who waited on us was spot on. She was courteous, accommodating, patient and engaging, that within itself boosted the ratings of the establishment.
Great find in civic center area. Very good service, great music, tasty brunch.
The best thing about it is the bar. The drinks are good, and if you're going to a show at the Jazz Center, it's nice to be able to bring your drink in a plastic cup into the auditorium and sip it at your seat. But I can't recommend the food at B-side. My husband said his fried chicken sandwich was fine, but my burger was awful. I asked for it "as rare as possible" and got it well-done and so dry it was brittle. Hard to cut with a knife!
It's in a great location for civic center attractions. The food and staff were great, too.
THE ONLY THING THIS RESTAURANT HAS GOING FOR IT IS ITS PROXIMITY TO SF JAZZ.
