B-Side Ratings and Reviews
We were EXTREMELY distressed by the Manager's response/open hostility to my complaint about the abnormally long 'wait' time for our entre to be served. Cecil the manager was a complete JERK and verbally threatening!
This was a special occasion for us and we were very excited to see Chris Botti in concert; too bad the event was over-shadowed by Cecil's surprisingly bad attitude. Here's what happened:
~ our Server(who was actually quite nice) kept telling us our food 'would be right out'
~ after 45 minutes of waiting (and starting time for the Show approaching), I went towards the kitchen to investigate myself
~at the kitchen I found the food on the way to be served, but then Cecil intervened; he told me I was "making a big deal" out of the delay for the sake of "getting free food" and I should be "happy".
~Cecil walked to our table and proceeded to put the plates in front of us in a HARD manner & repeat his accusation I was trying to "scam free food". I questioned his bad attitude and he then responded "GET OUT" twice in an attempt to eject us.
~ upon conferring with my date, we decided to stay and not succumb to Cecil's rude behavior. We hurriedly ate the food, paid the bill and then barely made it on time into the Show. Yes, I paid the bill as no insulting SCAM was ever intended.
I cannot, in good conscience, recommend B-side to anyone based on this egregious behavior by management.
This is a cute, casual little place that's a nice choice when attending SFJazz events. Hospitality is personal and superior -- perhaps because it's frequented by SFJazz members and donors, but welcome in any case. The small, not-boring menu is appropriate to a place that sees a lot of pre- and post-concert patrons and must turn covers fast. Understand, though, that the $24 Steak Frites (for example) is going to be what you expect: just okay. Still, if you expect only a pleasant bite when attending an event on the premises, I think you'll be well pleased. Someone talented has put thought into the B-Side operation, and it shows.
We decided to make reservations at B-side for its location--it's inside SFJazz, where we were seeing a show that night! We were going to be a little late, so I called to tell them this and they were nice enough to move our reservation time back by about 15 minutes so we can still have a spot by the time we got there. The bartender was fun, quick, and efficient and made great cocktails. We got 2 appetizers, 1 main entree, and 1 dessert to share, and it was perfect for 2 people. We'd definitely come back here again and I would highly recommend making reservations--the restaurant filled up quickly a little before 6pm.
They were so nice! I called because I was stuck in traffic and was going to be late. The host said , " don't worry, we'll hold your table." By the time I got there it was less than an hour till show time at SF jazz. The service was great, and we got to our seats in plenty of time. Very good experience, and the steak was great.
B-Side was a nice surprise. We met there before a performance at SFJazz, as it was convenient and gave us max time to visit. It's a warm, lively, and comfortable place, with good and friendly service, and an interesting menu that is small but has something for everyone (same for the wine list). The chive blossoms with squid were terrific, as were the brussel sprouts. We enjoyed the pork shoulder, steak frites and a good burger. "Artisan cheese plate" was the one dish that underwhelmed (and should be easy to do well.) A great place to eat and visit, and we will go back.
Reserved a table and was seated at the bar. When I asked I was told they had a”processing error”. Annoyed because $20 was necessary to reserve the table so kept the reservation despite a chance in plan. Apparently they can change but customers can’t.
Not impressed. Will not return
Very irregular service. Not waitress’s fault the meals just came out all at very different times.
Falafel dish came out a few dry balls rolling around a plate and small smear of green paste. Very un- appealing in presentation & taste.
Wine list pricey, for the type and level of food presented.
I loved my dinner at B-Side! The food and service were great! I want to give a special shout out to the kind host! We were attending a concert at the Jazz Center. The concert started at 4 so I made a reservation for 6. However, the show ran much longer. During the intermission I asked the host if it would be possible to move our reservation to a later time. He cheerfully moved our reservation to 7, allowing us to enjoy the rest of an amazing show! Thank you kind sir for giving us a wonderful evening!
We reserved bar seating for dinner before going to the symphony, which was a short walk away. As soon as we sat down at the bar, we knew we had come to a special place. The bartenders were brothers who were quick, funny, very attentive, intelligent, and wise about food and drink. They love their work and really get people. The house cocktails are handcrafted, complex and perfect for those who love creative and great tasting drinks. For dinner, we shared the Brussels sprouts, deep fried by someone who understands how to use hot oil, and dressed with a sesame vinaigrette that vanished pretty quickly. My wife had a cabbage chicken salad, and I had the B-Side burger. Oh man, those pickled onions. Just enough flavor to make each bite interesting. Followed it with a piece of key lime pie. Very smooth, made with vanilla. Sigh. We will be back.
Perfect for pre or post show bite to eat and drinks. Food is consistently tasty, service is friendly and prompt, and atmosphere is hip and laid back. Really appreciate that it is open after the shows. This space has turned over a lot since SFJazz opened. B-side feels like it has found the right groove to make it work.
We had reservations before a 7:30 show at SF Jazz. Our cocktails were excellently prepared and the bartender was very knowledgeable about ingrediens. We shared an appetizer which was delivered copy's as was the main which we also shared. I highly recommend this restaurant
The food at B-Side has great flavor, the chicken sandwich did not disappoint. The bartender, Manuel, makes a very tasty cocktail. We even had an unexpected surprise when presented with a fruity non-alcoholic beverage for my non "drinking" companion. We will definitely make reservations to be seated at the bar again for our next concert at SFJazz.
There were four of us who were having a bite to eat before a jazz show at the Center. We had read about the tater tots , crispy Brussels sprouts and braised pork shoulder and they lived up to the hype! The service was top notch. We did ask to move to a quieter spot in the dinner area and they were happy to accommodate. I had the roasted chicken salad and it was yummy. We would definitely go again before a show.
