great food and good service.
and super convenient for SFJazz performance.
I understand they are under a tremendous crush before a show, but dealing with that is why they exist. Poorly cooked, slapdash food, cocktails that take a half-hour and several requests to arrive. I know they can do better.
Love this place! Ate here pre-show & had a great dinner w friends. It's very open & attractive setting, great for people-watching. Ate in comfy bar area on a leather couch. Small plates which were all very well-prepared & tasty. Flawless cocktails. Great waitress who boxed up leftovers & stored for me to pick up post-concert. Now THAT is a class act in & of itself, Rebecca Fantastic service on all levels. Will be back soon w more friends to introduce.
This was our second meal at B-Side. We'd tried the two spots that preceded it and didn't like either. B-Side has finally figured it out. The food was vastly better than in prior incarnations and the service was great as well. It's finally a worthwhile choice before shows at SFJAZZ (or nearby). The prices seem a bit high, though. The two of us had 2 small plates, an entree, 3 drinks, no dessert, and it came to almost $100.
Service was very good -- friendly and attentive; food was decent though not memorable.
Started with the Brussels sprouts, which were really good. Tater tots were also good. The burger unfortunately wasn’t as good as the pictures look. Two burgers: we asked for medium rare and both were overcooked. Maybe 1/2 pound burger isn’t the best idea. The bun was also sub par, good bun is crucial. Fries weren’t great either. We ordered two of there new spicy mezcal drinks, which were ok, not great. But the ambiance and the service was fantastic. Our server was super friendly and helpful. The music was great and dining area very comfortable. Not sure I’d go back though, maybe for a simple drink but probably not for food.
It is a simple place in the SF Jazz building. We came here for a burger or something light before a show. It was fine for that. Nothing great or special, but it was good. I'd go back before a show again
It was a busy pre-concert crowd and we were warned when seated that the kitchen was short handed. We were pleasantly surprised that the rest of the staff was doing everything possible to expedite. Our drinks and first course came quickly, everyone was hustling, and the situation seemed to be handled well.
Probably almost everyone at B-side is there before or after hearing music at the Jazz Center. It's perfect for that. Menu is very limited but what they do is tasty, fun, a bit adventurous; likewise the drinks. Excellent bar with wide variety of beers (ales, stouts, the works) and adequate wine list. Mixed drinks run from a bit boring to whoa, "awesome" . . . the staff will give good advice. Love the servers. It's hip, of course, very SF, and yet not intimidating for the older crowd coming to hear our heroes and heroines from decades past. Or maybe it's just the good drinks.
Service was a bit slow and waiter needs to upgrade his wine service knowledge.
Great spot for any occasion. Great price and service and options.
A very relaxing place for dinner before the symphony. It doesn't have a large menu but every item was vary good. The service was excellent. I have been there twice and will be going there again. The Brussels sprouts are fantastic.
Love to sit at the bar at B-Side. Manny and his brother, Ricardo are awesome!
Perfect place to eat before a performance at SF Jazz!
We split an order of roasted Brussels sprouts. My wife liked them a lot and then she had an order of roasted chives with calamari which she also liked. There was a lot of food and we had a couple of doggy bags going home. I had the steak frites and again the portions were very large. I hadn't had a steak in a long time and it was well prepared and good and the fries were excellent.
It was just kinda blah - nothing was bad, to be clear. We were there a little on the early side and it very quiet. The space is very nice, cool actually. But nothing impressed. We had the burger and fried chicken sandwich, and they were both just boring.
Salmon was excellent, as was the rainbow cauliflower. My wife lived the artichoke, and, my son enjoyed the chicken sandwich and fries.
Very convenient for pre-SFJAZZ shows, but the veggie-burger was pretty much the worst I've ever had.
Reserved a seat at the bar before a performance at SF Jazz. Varies choices for dinner or snacking with a nice whisky/whiskey collection and a wonderful staff! Perfect for a solo diner.
B-Side was one of the best overall restaurant experiences I’ve had in a long time!!!!! I’m going again.
It is great place to come before or after the the symphony, opera or any of the other theatre options near civic center. It is very close to those places and the food was very good.
We had seats reserved at the bar before a concert at the SF Jazz Center and we loved our pre-concert supper! We had a grilled artichoke that was perfectly cooked with a tasty dipping sauce. Our cocktails were superb and it was fun to be able to see our drinks being made by the personable bar tender - mine was the 45 RPM (loved it!) and my husband's was an excellent Manhattan with his choice of Bourbon. We had a simple meal - fried chicken sandwich for one and a burger for the other. Both came with great fries, portions were large and accompaniments were delicious. We could have taken drinks to go into the concert but decided not to do that - however, it's a great option.
Finally a restaurant in this space has got it right. In the past the restaurants had their pacing wrong, the service was so and the food was inconsistent. At B Side the service is great, the food was wonderful and their mixed drinks were creative and really good. The bar tender has been tending that bar since the very first restaurant was opened in that space and he is wonderful and really creative. Thank you Manny!
My party and I all give this place a big thumbs up.
Extremely loud. And the service was ok but perfunctory. They were very busy.
But - I must say it was the best fried chicken sandwich I hav ever had. Beautifully crafted ones crisp but not dry. The big n was perfection, the greed fresh and bright. My friend had the burger. It was perfectly cooked. Lovely French fries. he absolutely loved it.
The folks next to us had gorgeous- looking salads. Go there for the excellent food and the convenience if you are attending an event. But make a reservation. It’s pretty small.
The staff is excellent...welcoming and helpful. The food is delish, especially the brussel sprouts. It's the perfect place to go for SJ Jazz concerts.
We enjoy eating here before concerts at the SF Jazz Center within the same building. Their burgers and fries are very tasty. Only problem is they serve them on plates that are way too small, so food constantly ends up on the table (all of us experienced this same problem). Please use bigger more appropriate size plates!
Very convenient pre and post SF Jazz shows. Food is ok, nothing special
Our server was wonderful! Didn't catch his name but we told him we were catching a 7pm show and he made sure we weren't late. Very on top of it.
Not too good.
We dined early, before the theater. The food and service were great. We were a group of five, shared small plates and then the entrees. I had the steak frites - a big rib eye! Two people had what looked like fabulous burgers, one had the pasta - cavatelli and the most picky person had the pork chop. All were happy. Great deserts too. But the best the waiter, friendly and efficient. There when you wanted him and gone when you didn't. I was impressed.
Love this place! I came here with a group of friends and it was wonderful. Staff are very kind and accommodating.
Server was very good - anticipated every need
Good spin on American comfort fare. Great for pre-show dining!
We frequent this Hayes Valley eatery often. Food, service, ambiance, etc are all outstanding .
Highly recommended. Only caveat: wines, beers and cocktails are quite pricey.
An obvious choice to grab food/drink before SF Jazz turns out to be a good choice. Great cocktails, wine/beer selection, decent menu options all well prepared as reported by our table of 5. Food prices reasonable ... in fact bar tab could easily be higher than food tab.
Dinner prior to jazz. Wonderful Brussels sprouts! Great, friendly service.
I had lifeless chicken salad and an over priced glass of wine. Better to go there just for a drink before a performance at the jazz center
The menu was interesting and on the whole tasty. Portions were surprisingly generous. We ate the bar and the service was outstanding.
We had a show to get to so it was convenient and fast. Food was good but not a place I’d go unless I was in the same situation.
I would not recommend this restaurant because of the food. I do want to credit the waitress with listening to our concern and being proactive in not charging us for a very poor dish. We never asked her to do that. Also, to make up for it, she also did not charge us for a dessert we ordered which we did like. The dish that was not good was the skirt steak with pomme frites. I could not cut the steak because it was so tough. Any piece I did manage to cut into an edible size was very difficult to chew. I basically gave up after managing to eat only an 1/8 of the steak. The pomme frites ended up being my dinner along with the tasty key lime pie for dessert. The restaurant was toasty when we walked in but then in 15 minutes it became frigid and we asked another server if we could turn off the air conditioning. He told us that they are having this hot and then very cold temp change all the time and there is nothing they can do to control it.
Bottom line, the servers should not be blamed for the environment or the food and I especially applaud our personal server who took it upon herself to not charge us for my steak and offered us a free dessert. That's customer service. Unfortunately the environment and the food did not measure up enough for me to say you must go.
