Very convenient location for jazz show patrons but food is unacceptable. We have tried to persevere to support the B-Side and have eaten dinner pre show three times. Will not return fo a meal. Appetizers spicy meatballs and brussel sprouts are tasty.
great food, great vibe! Enjoyable as always - wonderful location for visiting SF Jazz, Symphony, Ballet, etc.
Let me start off by saying that the food was pretty good. We were sitting at the bar and still our service was slow. But the thing I did not like at all about the restaurant was the bartender used his hands to put ice in drinks. That is completely unacceptable, and I won’t be eating there again for that reason.
It wasn't bad. I didn't expect it to be in the SF Jazz Center. I was looking for a little more atmosphere. But the food was good and the service was swift and kind. So, I'll likely be back.
Beware! They charge more than the menu prices list! For instance, the printed menu lists $6 for Brussels sprouts but the bill listed $8. We paid after looking online which lists $8, but then we looked at the printed menu at the door and saw it was as we remembered— $6 so approached the hostess who then disappeared for several minutes so we had to give up in order to go to the performance. Definitely a worrisome behavior by this restaurant since the waitress should give a heads up to inconsistencies in printed menu with prices being charged when ordering.
Excellent, friendly service. The food is good but the portions are HUGE, too large for our taste.
The hamburger was very good. The Key Lime pie was amazing.
really nice folks and great service - but the kitchen is pretty slow and has been every time I've been there. Food is quite good.
This was my first visit to B-Side before the SFJAZZ performance. I was so pleasantly surprised. The food was incredible as was the service. What a wonderful experience - I will most definitely be back!
Excellent in all ways.
Menu is now more varied, with options for vegetarians, pescatarians and meat eaters alike. We sat at the bar and got friendly prompt service. Brussels sprouts remain a standout.
only had a drink and chips with guacamole that's all folks
The staff is very cordial. Our waiter was slow with the beverages and kept forgetting things. He may have been slow to pick up my brunch dish as it was lukewarm. It is a nice sunny place close to the theater, so I would go again.
Great food and great atmosphere! Our group of 8 really enjoyed our brunch!
service was great but food for the price range was nothing special. would not return for food but would return for a drink before a show.
Good casual place to grab brunch, food was tasty and they had a lot of options for different dietary restrictions. Only downside—it was very hot sitting by the window since they have no blinds or curtains but we were told they were coming soon!
Super convenient if you're seeing a show. Very nice atmosphere. Food was quite good. The charred chives were delicious and I don't generally like squid. Worth ordering!
Food was experience. Great selection of vegetables beautifully cooked. We will back.
I would not recommend going there for Sunday brunch. I wanted a small meal so I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese. The bagel was probably toasted on #1 since I barely could see any toasted areas. The decaf coffee was weak. Denny's coffee believe or not is better.
All good but salmon was dry, a little too well done.
Love this restaurant! Interesting menu, fresh ingredients, good food prep & presentation, charming servers. Cozy, too.
Great, As Always! I sometimes eat there before attending SFJAZZ performance. It is always great, and most convenient.
So perfect before a performance at SFJazz!!! And so good, I'll go there even when not going to a performance. Great menu...something for everyone. I had a skillet french toast for brunch that was absolutely delicious!!
Nice place to eat when going to hear jazz.
This reasonably priced restaurant is located next to SFJAZZ, an excellent jazz venue. We had brunch and the food was good. The staff was very friendly. My only criticisms are that the bread under the eggs Benedict was not quite right and the mimosa was a little weak. My friend's drink, rye with chocolate, did not have much chocolate. In spite of these minor weaknesses, we enjoyed the place.
Tasty food, prompt service., reasonable prices and a nice range of food choices.
Convenient place to dine and experience SF Jazz. Limited food selection, but yummy.
Had at reservation at the Bar before seeing Chris Botti at SF Jazz. Service was great, Michael was friendly and engaging and knew exactly what to pour when we explained what we liked. Husband ordered the Steak Frites and I had the Salmon with Cauliflower and Brocollini which was absolutely delicious. Will definitely return.
Good good before a performance, maybe a little pricey
Great pre performance venue for dining! Nice menu - not a lot but just enough to make it fun with friends.
My initial reaction was that the menu was rather limited and pretty expensive. I have to admit that my pork chop dinner was extremely tasty and exceptionally well done. The portions are also quite substantial. It's connected to SFJazz, so it is extremely convenient if you are attending the jazz club. I would go back just for that pork chop.
I have been to B-side several times and this is the first time that the service was horrendous. We actually never figured out who our server was - one took a drink order, another came over for the food order and drink order, no one brought the drinks to the table until we asked for the them, there were 4 of us and 3 meals came out at once - we had to ask for the fourth person's food. And all the food came out too quickly. We were never asked if we wanted another drink, so we left and went to the bar. First drink bartender forgot the orange juice, second drink he forgot the cranberry - it is a drink that includes both. Good thing the place is so convenient when you're going to a show....
Great! I have only been there once before, and this time it was great. The food was not fancy, but was tasty. Fun ambiance.
Very convenient for going to a concert at the venue. A simple menu, well executed. I think they have finally worked out the kinks (though still had simple minor issues like having proper settings on the table - missing forks knives etc.). Food was decent, nothing extraordinary (the bread pudding was pretty darn good though), I had the crab cakes, and it didn't taste too crabby, mostly fish and potatoes I think. My husband had steak frite, the steak was tender and very tasty, but lots of fat. I think over time, the restaurant will continue to evolve and will become an excellent companion business for the music venue.
For a pre concert meal, a really good choice. All about it is good. A little loud when it’s full but, hey....and you’re supporting jazz.
Perfect on a chilly night before a concert. Make reservations because it fills up before showtime.
We have eaten at BSide multiple times before concerts at the SF Jazz Center. The service has been attentive, the menu full of sides and appetizers to share (the Brussels sprouts are really good), and a wide and eclectic mix of wine/beer/drinks. There are not as many entrees and they are simply constructed. It's a great spot to grab dinner ahead of a concert and we will continue to return.
An addition to breakfast spots in Hayes Valley. Not crowded lovely environment.
Very convenient to a performance at SF Jazz, but some glitches with service and in the kitchen. We were seated promptly and a friendly woman took our drink order right away, but then the drinks didn't show. After a delicious appetizer of spicy meatballs appeared, we inquired after our drinks. More confusion, one of two cocktails was overwhelmingly smoky from an overdose of mezcal. A manager quickly appeared with a replacement and was very apologetic.
The "blackened salmon" was a nice piece of fish, perfectly cooked and very moist - but it was not much more blackened than a bowl of ice cream. The "steak frites" was as rare as requested, but had never been touched by a lick of salt before it was served. Apologies and efforts at service recovery were frequent, but the challenges were many. The makings of a great spot are here if the glitches can be worked out.
B-Side used to be a fun place to grab dinner before JF Jazz. Not sure what’s happening behind the scenes, but the former, fabulous bar tenders are no longer there, replaced by a rookie who mixes the WORST drinks, the food portions are now skimpy, and it’s not fun being there anymore. Will find another dinner fav; there are plenty of other spots in the neighborhood to choose from.
