We sat at the bar and had a quick dinner before a show at the War Memorial Opera House. We were earlier than our reservation and that was no problem. Very nice experience - everything was good, the food, the beer, the service. We definitely recommend B-side and will go back when we're in the area.
It was tasty. It was quick. It was moderately priced. It was a perfect meal to have before our performance at Davies. I wouldn't call it fine dining, but for what it is, they do it very well. I had seen a cheese plate on their menu online which they didn't have on the actual menu. That was disappointing, but you must get the fries! So so good. We'll be back.
Great place. Food was outstanding and it is centrally located to theater, music, shopping. I give it two thumbs up.
Dining prior to an event at SFJAZZ
A hidden gem so don’t tell anyone! Especially about their inventive and delicious cocktails. Brunch or dine here and skip the Hayes Street insanity.
Wonderful dinner with exceptional service.
This is a great place! We loved the appetizers (roasted Brussel sprouts and artichokes). My friends loved their burgers. I had the chicken sandwich; the chicken was moist and all the fixings were good. My husband had the roast chicken and said it was excellent. The service was friendly and swift; we had no trouble making the upcoming show. We will return.
We were attending a performance at Golden Gate Theater and stopped here for brunch. It was fabulous. I am definitely coming back and will attend a performance at SF Jazz!
More menu choices than expected for a small room. Good selection of wine by the glass. Very attentive wait staff. Obviouisly, convenient for a quick, nice meal before SFJAZZ concert.
It's right in the SF Jazz Center so it is perfect for pre-show dinner.
My friend and I had a good pre-concert dinner at B-side. We appreciated the moderate prices. The food was very good, including my grilled chicken and his salad. The place was full prior to a Sunday evening concert - be sure to get reservations.
The service was great. The food was good, but not exceptional. However, the brussel sprouts were delicious. The cocktails were also pretty good. The place is perfect before a show at the Jazz Center.
very average. Portions are large. The brussels sprouts were tasty. My fried chicken sandwich was fine. The french fries were undercooked - limp and cold, not crispy at all. My friend's pork chop was ok, probably overcooked for most people, but he likes his meat well done. His mashed potatoes were cold, they did bring some new warm ones. Cocktail was pretty small portion. Glass of wine was decent pour. This place is probably OK before a performance. Service was OK.
Food was just meh. Only one vegetarian option - a veggie burger that was bland and only tasted of rice and black beans. Brussels sprouts appetizer was good. Service was a little slow and unattentive.
The food was very underwhelming and so was the menu. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was good, but the side salad was pretty much 90% cabbage and was so small. What made the experience worse was the staff. The waitress we had was so rude and the entire time we were there, I felt like she was pushing us out. Would not recommend.
B-Side lost one of its best assets in Manny behind the bar. Without him this restaurant has lost a great deal of its appeal. Food is fine but not exciting & with a menu that doesn’t change much I’m going to be looking to other nearby restaurants for my dinners before SF Jazz.
The cocktails were perfectly executed and delicious. Ditto for the sweet and crunchy Brussels sprouts. Unfortunately the rest of the meal didn’t live up to this start. The fried chicken in the eponymous sandwich was over fried and hard to bite into. Would go again for cocktails only
B-Side has a small but excellent food menu. The three of us had a dinner (salmon), a burger, and a meal salad, and all three were very tasty and seemed of high quality. The venue is attractive and busy. We all had wine, though we noticed a full bar and some specialty drinks. The service seemed a bit desultory, but not enough to undertip, just a little odd--our waitstaff did not stop by after the food delivery to check whether all was well for instance. We were able to draw the attention of others and we did not really have to wait for anything. Convenient location for jazz, symphony, or opera.
Mediocre food. Poor service.
wonderful food, very friendly service, reasonable prices
High point was the crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer and the cocktails. Food went downhill from there. Chicken was dried out like supermarket rotisserie. Vegetables looked and tasted like they were spooned from a steam table.
Perfect when you are going to a concert at SFJAZZ. Great service, really good food. You can get your drink to go if you didn’t finish
Wow dinner service at the bar seating! Very lively atmosphere.
Food was absolutely excellent. Prepared to perfection. Bartender made me a personal drink after I told him what I liked to drink in general (it wasn't on the bar menu.) Our 2nd visit and we will be back.
A short walk to Davies Symphony Hall afterwards for concert.
Hostess was incredibly gracious to hold our table as we were rather late due to unexpected heavy traffic (despite using WAZE--we were still late!) Made the call, explained our problem and she still held our table. So nice...this exemplifies the service from front to chef in the back. Excellent.
A small but mighty menu! Well made, creative cocktails. The crispy brussel sprouts were exceptional, just the right amount of char & subtle glaze. Michael Bauer was right about the burger, one of the best! I loved the fried chicken sandwich, the pickle & slaw added just the right notes! Service was great!
Nice food - but surprised they didn’t have an espresso machine given the extensive brunch menu! No cappuccino 😬
Food was alright, big portions but not great. However the location inside the sf jazz center was great. Also seems like it would be better for drinks and apps.
When we arrived at B-side service was just starting it was quiet and efficient. As the restaurant filled in the noise rose but the service never flagged. The menu was small but had good choices we shared a salad and a steak frite -- good choices. All in all, we were pleased and we will return.
The menu choices are inventive.
I have eaten here a few times and have had pleasant experiences.
However, this go round didn't meet up to my standards. They seemed shorthanded, and the other
employees tried to pitch in. Service was not good and our server never came around to ask if we wanted another drink or if everything was alright. The need to flag "someone" to get any service is not what one would expect from this restaurant or any restaurant.
Ambiance and service OK but food is mediocre. Very convenient for pre or post SF Jazz performances.
Attentive waiter, fast service but not pushy, good food. Good wine and good cocktails. Would definitely eat here again.
Always great. Servers get a bit overwhelmed I think because they’re trying to make everyone happy. Not sure how to suggest helping them.
Have been wanting to go here for a while, considering that its location in the SFJazz Center, but thought the menu was too small to "deliver the goods." Was I wrong!!! The food was delicious, varied and more than enough options for 4 people to have a terrific meal. We all agreed that we would come back even if we weren't seeing a show. And the service was excellent and even fun.
Great before and after SFJAZZ. Delicious, great wine list and cocktails. Terrific service. Open after the show, too. Love it!
B Side is very convenient when you have a show at SF Jazz. The food is okay, the service is good. We had a salad and a fried chicken sandwich. Both were okay, nothing sensational. With all of the good restaurants surrounding the theatre it is odd that SF Jazz hasn't chosen a restaurant with better food for the venue. By my count this is their third try; the Louisiana cuisine was terrible, the Mexican was pretty good, and now B Side. Maybe the next one will be the best. They could make it a destination with a better food array.
Great dinner opp for going to SF Jazz. Excellent service, outstanding bartenders!, very good food, convivial/informal atmosphere, reasonable prices - a atep away from SF's premier jazz music venue.
Everything was good, but they do play the music pretty loud, so it's a little hard to hear if you're trying to catch up with a group of friends like we were doing.
B-Side is just... fine. You will eat food that is fine, ordered off of a menu that is fine. You will experience fine ambience while listening to music that is fine-bordering-meh. Nothing will offend you, but you will leave dumbstruck wondering how a place with such potential is really just.... fine.
I've got a new favorite place. The food was fantastic, drinks were even better! The bartenders are extremely personable and made some of the best cocktails I've ever had. Chicken sandwich was phenomenal and the tater tots are a must have.
Perfect spot for dinner before a show at SFJazz. Small but creative menu, awesome cocktails, Manuel is a great bartender.
So easy to have dinner here before going to a concert. The hamburger is very good, better than most. The fried chicken sandwich could've/should've been more crispy. Good french fries and lots of 'em. The margarita was yummy. (Nice choice of beer, wine & cocktails) The bread pudding was done well, but was a little boring, needs some Creme Anglaise and fruit or jam. The sundae is a celebration. We will be back and I might eat here even if I wasn't going to the SF Jazz Center.
