Nice place to eat when going to hear jazz.
This reasonably priced restaurant is located next to SFJAZZ, an excellent jazz venue. We had brunch and the food was good. The staff was very friendly. My only criticisms are that the bread under the eggs Benedict was not quite right and the mimosa was a little weak. My friend's drink, rye with chocolate, did not have much chocolate. In spite of these minor weaknesses, we enjoyed the place.
Tasty food, prompt service., reasonable prices and a nice range of food choices.
Convenient place to dine and experience SF Jazz. Limited food selection, but yummy.
Had at reservation at the Bar before seeing Chris Botti at SF Jazz. Service was great, Michael was friendly and engaging and knew exactly what to pour when we explained what we liked. Husband ordered the Steak Frites and I had the Salmon with Cauliflower and Brocollini which was absolutely delicious. Will definitely return.
Good good before a performance, maybe a little pricey
Great pre performance venue for dining! Nice menu - not a lot but just enough to make it fun with friends.
My initial reaction was that the menu was rather limited and pretty expensive. I have to admit that my pork chop dinner was extremely tasty and exceptionally well done. The portions are also quite substantial. It's connected to SFJazz, so it is extremely convenient if you are attending the jazz club. I would go back just for that pork chop.
I have been to B-side several times and this is the first time that the service was horrendous. We actually never figured out who our server was - one took a drink order, another came over for the food order and drink order, no one brought the drinks to the table until we asked for the them, there were 4 of us and 3 meals came out at once - we had to ask for the fourth person's food. And all the food came out too quickly. We were never asked if we wanted another drink, so we left and went to the bar. First drink bartender forgot the orange juice, second drink he forgot the cranberry - it is a drink that includes both. Good thing the place is so convenient when you're going to a show....
Great! I have only been there once before, and this time it was great. The food was not fancy, but was tasty. Fun ambiance.
Very convenient for going to a concert at the venue. A simple menu, well executed. I think they have finally worked out the kinks (though still had simple minor issues like having proper settings on the table - missing forks knives etc.). Food was decent, nothing extraordinary (the bread pudding was pretty darn good though), I had the crab cakes, and it didn't taste too crabby, mostly fish and potatoes I think. My husband had steak frite, the steak was tender and very tasty, but lots of fat. I think over time, the restaurant will continue to evolve and will become an excellent companion business for the music venue.
For a pre concert meal, a really good choice. All about it is good. A little loud when it’s full but, hey....and you’re supporting jazz.
Perfect on a chilly night before a concert. Make reservations because it fills up before showtime.
We have eaten at BSide multiple times before concerts at the SF Jazz Center. The service has been attentive, the menu full of sides and appetizers to share (the Brussels sprouts are really good), and a wide and eclectic mix of wine/beer/drinks. There are not as many entrees and they are simply constructed. It's a great spot to grab dinner ahead of a concert and we will continue to return.
An addition to breakfast spots in Hayes Valley. Not crowded lovely environment.
Very convenient to a performance at SF Jazz, but some glitches with service and in the kitchen. We were seated promptly and a friendly woman took our drink order right away, but then the drinks didn't show. After a delicious appetizer of spicy meatballs appeared, we inquired after our drinks. More confusion, one of two cocktails was overwhelmingly smoky from an overdose of mezcal. A manager quickly appeared with a replacement and was very apologetic.
The "blackened salmon" was a nice piece of fish, perfectly cooked and very moist - but it was not much more blackened than a bowl of ice cream. The "steak frites" was as rare as requested, but had never been touched by a lick of salt before it was served. Apologies and efforts at service recovery were frequent, but the challenges were many. The makings of a great spot are here if the glitches can be worked out.
B-Side used to be a fun place to grab dinner before JF Jazz. Not sure what’s happening behind the scenes, but the former, fabulous bar tenders are no longer there, replaced by a rookie who mixes the WORST drinks, the food portions are now skimpy, and it’s not fun being there anymore. Will find another dinner fav; there are plenty of other spots in the neighborhood to choose from.
A Christmas treat
We enjoyed dinner before the symphony and it was much more than sandwiches as I had originally thought.(steak, salmon, etc). Our waitress was awesome, super personable, and down to earth. We'll definitely be back!
If you are attending a performance at SFJazz, it makes sense to eat here. Noise level is a real problem, but motivates one to get out ASAP to go listen to some jazz
Fabulous as always. Great, attentive bar service (food and drink.) Excellent food. One of our favorite places to go before SF Symphony performances. We'll be back.
Great location for a drink or meal before or after a show at the jazz center or opera house.
My friends and I really enjoyed our time at B-side. None of us had been before but all agreed we would be back again. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. They had a fun cocktail menu and a specialty cocktail deal. We each had a different drink so that we could try them all, all were very tasty. The noise level was loud enough that you didn't feel like others could hear your conversation but not so loud that we had to yell. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
We sat at the bar and had a quick dinner before a show at the War Memorial Opera House. We were earlier than our reservation and that was no problem. Very nice experience - everything was good, the food, the beer, the service. We definitely recommend B-side and will go back when we're in the area.
It was tasty. It was quick. It was moderately priced. It was a perfect meal to have before our performance at Davies. I wouldn't call it fine dining, but for what it is, they do it very well. I had seen a cheese plate on their menu online which they didn't have on the actual menu. That was disappointing, but you must get the fries! So so good. We'll be back.
Great place. Food was outstanding and it is centrally located to theater, music, shopping. I give it two thumbs up.
Dining prior to an event at SFJAZZ
A hidden gem so don’t tell anyone! Especially about their inventive and delicious cocktails. Brunch or dine here and skip the Hayes Street insanity.
Wonderful dinner with exceptional service.
This is a great place! We loved the appetizers (roasted Brussel sprouts and artichokes). My friends loved their burgers. I had the chicken sandwich; the chicken was moist and all the fixings were good. My husband had the roast chicken and said it was excellent. The service was friendly and swift; we had no trouble making the upcoming show. We will return.
We were attending a performance at Golden Gate Theater and stopped here for brunch. It was fabulous. I am definitely coming back and will attend a performance at SF Jazz!
More menu choices than expected for a small room. Good selection of wine by the glass. Very attentive wait staff. Obviouisly, convenient for a quick, nice meal before SFJAZZ concert.
It's right in the SF Jazz Center so it is perfect for pre-show dinner.
My friend and I had a good pre-concert dinner at B-side. We appreciated the moderate prices. The food was very good, including my grilled chicken and his salad. The place was full prior to a Sunday evening concert - be sure to get reservations.
The service was great. The food was good, but not exceptional. However, the brussel sprouts were delicious. The cocktails were also pretty good. The place is perfect before a show at the Jazz Center.
very average. Portions are large. The brussels sprouts were tasty. My fried chicken sandwich was fine. The french fries were undercooked - limp and cold, not crispy at all. My friend's pork chop was ok, probably overcooked for most people, but he likes his meat well done. His mashed potatoes were cold, they did bring some new warm ones. Cocktail was pretty small portion. Glass of wine was decent pour. This place is probably OK before a performance. Service was OK.
Food was just meh. Only one vegetarian option - a veggie burger that was bland and only tasted of rice and black beans. Brussels sprouts appetizer was good. Service was a little slow and unattentive.
The food was very underwhelming and so was the menu. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was good, but the side salad was pretty much 90% cabbage and was so small. What made the experience worse was the staff. The waitress we had was so rude and the entire time we were there, I felt like she was pushing us out. Would not recommend.
B-Side lost one of its best assets in Manny behind the bar. Without him this restaurant has lost a great deal of its appeal. Food is fine but not exciting & with a menu that doesn’t change much I’m going to be looking to other nearby restaurants for my dinners before SF Jazz.
The cocktails were perfectly executed and delicious. Ditto for the sweet and crunchy Brussels sprouts. Unfortunately the rest of the meal didn’t live up to this start. The fried chicken in the eponymous sandwich was over fried and hard to bite into. Would go again for cocktails only
B-Side has a small but excellent food menu. The three of us had a dinner (salmon), a burger, and a meal salad, and all three were very tasty and seemed of high quality. The venue is attractive and busy. We all had wine, though we noticed a full bar and some specialty drinks. The service seemed a bit desultory, but not enough to undertip, just a little odd--our waitstaff did not stop by after the food delivery to check whether all was well for instance. We were able to draw the attention of others and we did not really have to wait for anything. Convenient location for jazz, symphony, or opera.
