Sadly tired decor and food. Used to be great. Chowder poor. Calamari greasy. Fish and chops unremarkable
Oysters were the best I’ve ever had! A few minor mistakes with the service but our waitress made up for it with free dishes. So good and will definitely be back soon!
The service was incredible. I needed some extra love and care this evening and I received more than I could have ever imagined.
fanfreakingtastic all around. service was excellent food was even better. we’ll be back.
Beautiful restaurant with a great vibe and amazing service! our waitress was so engaged and helped us customize our meal to perfection. We ordered the lobster special with a side of homemade tagliatelle. Everything was delicious and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Also, one of the most amazing white wine lists we have come across!
My favorite place for oysters. They always have a great selection and the oysters are impeccably fresh,
Excellent meal, good service. Gnocchi was to die for, fried clams, oysters, everything was great. Will be back.
Amazing meal. Not only the best seafood in Boston, but amazing service that made our night really special. Celebrating college acceptances and an 18th birthday our daughter enjoyed every minute of it, and is now an oyster lover (B&G fried anyway!) Warmly welcomed by the host, followed by great service and incredible food. Highly recommend.
The boss is just : AWESOME !
The Food is very very good
The place is very Nice
The waitresses are not welcoming and not smiling
Terrific pre-Super Bowl dinner! Everything served was excellent.
Recommended by a fri3nd. Great seafood, service and cozy atmosphere.
Usually I like sitting at the bar to have a meal. but the kitchen is right there and so dirty. Everything is pre=packaged or premade (not sure which), and at the end of the evening the 'fresh' oysters are just thrown into a plastic bag and put into the frige under the counter. The lobster roll (no price, market rate listed under price) is so deceiving. All of the other sandwiches are in the $14-$16 range and this came up at $32. For cold pieces of lobster on a hat dog bun. really? Ditto for the fried oysters, with way way too much horse radish sauce. You couldn't even taste the oysters. The only thing good was the glass of Ale, but at $7, not exactly a good deal. We were recommended to this place, but I can't see why. Oh, the chowder was watery and had too many bits of bacon, which overwhelmed the taste. You eat much better at Legal Seafood or at Atlantic Seafood.
B&G has a great selection of oysters. Their other appetizers and main dishes are well crafted and delicious. There is also a wonderful list of wines by the glass. Try their signature lobster roll or one if their seasonal entrees. The halibut was perfectly cooked. A really fine seafood restaurant.
Enjoyed an absolutely delightful lunch. It was middle of the week and a late lunch so we felt like we could linger and chat. Our waitress ( Michele ) was attentive and friendly which I appreciate. We had the oyster and charred octopus for starters. You can not go wrong with either dish. The branzino was crispy and tender. Will return on our next trip to Boston
A winner every time! Just disappointed with the table we were placed at- crammed up against the raw bar and a corner table where two women both facing us bitched about the men in there lives all evening! Since we live out of town but with every return trip B&G is always on our list the table placement would be the only sad note. Food and service spot on!
It was our five year anniversary, we had such a great time in every way
Great food and great venue! Really enjoyed the experience, and the size of the restaraunt felt cozy without being cramped. Would definitely come back!
Between the food, ambiance, and oyster knowledge of the staff (so key) B&G never gets old. Glad I never gave up on this joint from the original fried seafood experience in the beginning.
Quite outstanding! We cannot wait to go back! The oysters were amazing. Our entrees were really really good.
Always superb! Food is elegantly prepared w perfect attention to detail. Staff is so happy to be there and engage in conversation. Would go here again.
this is our 2nd time at this amazing and quaint establishment. It was quiet and the lighting was set just right. We had a lovely cushioned round table near door which was perfect. It was my boyfriend gregs birthday and it was wonderful. Waiter was amazing also
amazing food, atmosphere, the staff was great!!! thank you for a delightful dinner!
One knows what to expect: good and timely service, fresh foods, especially oysters & clams, and a casual ambiance. Perfect for pre theater at Calderwood across the street.
Delicious! Don't forgot the chocolate mousse for dessert!
The dinner exceeded expectations and service was phenomenal. They knew it was my husbands birthday and they treated us to fried oysters and dessert.
Best seafood around
Overall very underwhelmed. The room was dated and wall paper coming off at the corners. Food was very high priced and the dishes suffered from poor execution and no seasoning. Oysters were good but pricey. Fried calamari were chewy and not crispy on the fry with no seasoning. It went downhill from there. Service was OK at best. Overall seems like a dated restaurant that won’t be around much longer with that quality at those high prices
It was a very cold day and we didn’t want to go out, but then we started thinking about the lobster roll at B&G and calculating the pain involved in the 10 minute walk over ice to get there. B&G won, as usual, and we had another perfect lunch. With a commitment to quality and a reputation for freshness, this small spot in the South End always punches well above its weight. I have never been disappointed. Great tight wine list, fresh oysters, smart servers, and delicious food make it a classic.
Excellent oysters & seafood food and lots of fun to sit at the counter and watch the prep.
The food and drinks were great! A small place but has a cool vibe.
My kitchen away from home! A creative menu, impeccable ingredients and the best staff. Not to miss.
Great place to bring out of town guests.
B&G is always terrific. This week was no exception for a lovely lunch with a friend.
My fiance and I went to B&G for an anniversary dinner and couldn't have been happier with our restaurant choice. The staff was very friendly and made sure that the dinner was special for us. On top of the outstanding service, the food was delicious. 10/10 would recommend the lobster BLT and the oyster selection was awesome.
Definitely worth the visit!
Very enjoyable. Great food. We will be back.
We love B&G. Haven’t been in a while and was so glad to be back. Great lunch and exceptional service from Katy.
Wish you had a full bar. Loved our waiter. Noisy but fun!
I was quite disappointed when I took a friend here for lunch yesterday. I had been here about a year ago and remembered it to be so much better. It looked very run down, chipping paint, dirty floor, worn vinyl topped tables. Service was average, a bit slow considering it was not busy. Our server was friendly enough. We ordered 12 oysters for a starter, these were brought out quickly and were very fresh and delicious with the accoutrement. For this, I would have given 4-5 stars, however the rest of the food was not so great. Everything seemed fresh, however, very under seasoned and bland, I had to use more salt than I would have liked. I ordered the halibut tartare, which, again, was fresh tasting, but the accompaniments and the fish itself was underwhelming. The lobster Bisque was ok, a few chunks of lobster meat, but again, bland. My Friend had the fish and chips, he seemed quite satisfied. He’s a very polite guy. You can’t really screw up fish and chips in New England though! Another thing I’d like to point out is that the location is great for locals or those taking public transportation, but it’s all residential parking and meters on Tremont st, with a parking lot within walking distance. They do offer valet parking for around $20, but only during dinner. Being located in the South End, it’s a great eclectic area. Being located in a basement like level, it does have windows looking onto Tremont Street, so there is a bit of natural light. It does have a very cozy, neighborhood feel to it, which is great. One problem I saw was that the bathroom was accessed by a tight spiral staircase, very quaint and quirky in a good way, but not good for those with physical limitations.I would give it a try again if they made some minor refurbishments and updated and expanded their menu. For the prices they charge, it should be better, it is a Barbara Lynch managed restaurant, and she is well known as fabulous Boston chef after all.
great spot for getting together with friends, drinking good wine and eating great food!
Some of the best oysters in the South End. Service was great and all the food we ordered came out in a timely manner and was well seasoned. Presentation compliments to the chefs!
