B&G Oysters has received many accolades over the years for its cuisine and wine program including "Best Seafood" in 2007 and 2008 by Boston Magazine.
This subterranean spot draws energy from its open kitchen which is surrounded by a white marble bar. In warmer weather, enjoy drinks and more on the stone patio; a favorite outdoor dining spot in the city. Please note that all reservations are for the interior of the restaurant. B&G Oysters Ratings and Reviews
We have been to B&G several times after theater performances and it never disappoints. Beginning with the greeting from Randy at the entrance making us feel most welcome and keeps us coming back for more of that fine hospitality. In addition, the food is excellent, we especially enjoy the Fried Oysters and some of our party eat them raw as well with good comments. The scallops, gnocchi, and cod are our favorite entrees. Prices are a little steep and portions a tad small for hardier appetites but neither would keep me from coming back again and again!
B&G really hit the mark after hearing so many great things. It's much smaller than I expected, maybe 10 tables and a bar. Our server was incredibly nice and attentive. The oysters were so good we got another round. Highly recommend this spot for a date night or a casual dinner.
This place was recommended by a friend as a great local spot for seafood in Boston. We enjoyed a selection of East Coast Oysters on the 1/2 shell, we each had an wonderful Lobster Roll and a nice glass of Muscadet and followed it by a very decadent chocolate mouse. Definitely worth seeking out when in the city.
Our experience at B&G Oysters did not live up to the hype and reviews that it receives. The food was average, our server was a bit awkward, and there wasn't very much that stood out about our experience. The extensive raw bar options were definitely a very defining part of our meal, and I would absolutely go back if I was only doing the raw bar. The dinner portion of our meal was rather boring and unoriginal, we were expecting much more from a long-standing and popular restaurant.
The quality of the food has steadily declined over the years. The menu selections rarely change and the prices keep rising. My recent meal included nicely fried salt cod croquettes. For $17, the croquettes we 80% potato and 20% salt cod. The greasy saffron aioli added insult to injury. The Atlantic Blue Cod Al Limón ($29) was severely overcooked. The parsnip puree was verging on inedible. The crispy mushrooms were cold and pallid. My friend's scallops were way overcooked as well.
One star for the wine. One for the always-friendly service.
No one with cooking talent (though Kristen Kish was in the kitchen at the time) seems to be on the line or managing this kitchen. Chef Lynch, I know you're leaving the business, but please stop by your restaurants once in a while.
3 WORDS... OYSTERS, FRIED CLAMS & WINE
A winning combination coupled with the warm hospitality of Hilary equates to a fantastic dining experience!
If you LOVE OYSTERS you have to go here! They are beyond superb! Each carefully picked, super fresh oyster tastes as if it had just been pulled from the sea. They are plump, firm, briney and full of the delicate precious liquid nectar. However, to enjoy an oyster to its true potential, one must have a skilled technician. Brenda is a true professional with excellent oyster opening skills! This is a skill people and Bernada never loses a drop of the treasured liquor! Nobody plates oysters like Bernada!
If you LOVE FRIED IPSWICH CLAMS you have to go here! The clams co-exist on their plate with sides of delicious bread and butter pickles and tasty coleslaw along with the customary pile of fries. Together... when mingled, makes your mouth pop with salty, savory, sweet and zesty flavors.
The wine list is quite formidable. We concentrate our focus on chablis or bubbles.
OVERALL... JUST AMAZING! KUDOS to the chef and restaurateur, Barbara Lynch... for opening this restaurant and using excellent purveyors! KUDOS to Hilary, for just being Hilary and always making us feel welcome!
This was our first time at B&G Oysters, and--wow--what a meal! The whole bronzino fish topped the charts. It was crispy and delicious and one of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. Great glass of burgundy, too. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. We'll definitely go back!
The oysters and wine selection were excellent! We had lobster rolls too, which were way smaller than expected. The food portions could be more “proportionate”, as it seemed like the lobster roll was the side with fries, instead of the other way around. Our server was excellent and had really good wine recommendations!
We went to B&G for our anniversary - they didn’t miss a beat. The maître d' greeted us with a congrats and gave us a great table with an option to sit together on the same side. Followed by 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly by our waitress. Oysters were amazing as well as our meal. After we declined dessert, they bought us one anyway with a candle...which of course we finished. Thank you B&G for making our occasion an even more special one.
Always a blast to sit at the bar and watch the uber talented chefs work - plus seeing the oysters get shucked right there is fascinating. Love the work that goes into the food - all lovingly prepared with the freshest and highest quality ingredients. Can't miss dining in Boston!
