This subterranean spot draws energy from its open kitchen which is surrounded by a white marble bar. In warmer weather, enjoy drinks and more on the stone patio; a favorite outdoor dining spot in the city. Please note that all reservations are for the interior of the restaurant. Our patio is available solely on a walk-in basis.

FAVORITE place in Boston!
Incredible food and personal, attentive, unhurried service ... even at a barseat
Really great selfish and our waiter was very helpful and efficient
This is the best place I’ve ever been to in Boston. The menu is simple, but pretty much everything is executed perfectly. The seafood is beyond fresh and expertly prepared. The steamed lobster was the best lobster I’ve ever tasted anywhere. Support this place, they deserve it!
Fun restaurant with quality food, the waiter was awesome!
Service was friendly and the food tasted fresh. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and experience at B&G! I look forward to my next visit.
Varied selection of “usual & not-so-usual” oysters that were excellent !!
Very well-prepared plates, it rather smallish portion for the price, hence the mid-value rating.
Fairly-priced wine options...
Very recommended for the quality.
we have eaten at BG several times and of course like the food or would not return.
I did however find my fish a little dry and overcooked.
Great seafood and service
We always recommend B&G to any friends visiting Boston, and people we meet while we're in Boston.
This night's meal was really great! The octopus was yummy, the raw shellfish so fresh, the Roederer champaign perfect... and the lobster BLT? Fantastic!
Wonderful staff, ambiance and food!!!
Wonderful and delicious experience!
My clam role had very few clams in it and waitress forgot to deliver fries for the table. Otherwise food good but pricey for lunch.
Hilary was one of best wait persons we have ever had - and there have been thousands. It was our 25th anniversary and she made the evening perfect! Go to this restaurant and ask for Hilary!
Oh and the oysters, crab legs, and crab cocktail were spectacular. Wine list is outstanding...
One of our favorite places. We were there for a romantic birthday celebration. Relieved to be seated outside as volume inside was much too loud.
Have had dinner at B&G previously but today was lunch for an out of town friend who wanted a lobster roll. It did not disappoint.
Our server was very helpful and fun! We had a sweet table for six that provided coziness. The oysters were spectacular! We also enjoyed the octopus and crab and sweet potato appetizers. None of us particularly liked our entrees, which we all found just so-so: lobster rolls, halibut, bouillabaisse. The French fries were awesome!
B&G always surpasses expectations. A regular stop when we’re in Boston.
Great meal, seated quickly and the wait staff were excellent
Cramped quarter, service not up to par with prices
I chose B&G because I was in the mood for the perfect lobster roll for my birthday. B&G did not disappoint! We are a family of five with varying tastes and there was something for everyone. We sat outside which was a fun, urban atmosphere. We started with the Tower which was an excellent collection of seafood apps. Hubby had the octopus which was presented beautifully and was very tender. The youngest devoured his fish and chips while the eldest loved her crab salad. Oh, and the fries are the best ever. We took the left overs home and were told they reheat well. The coleslaw was a perfect combination of thinly chopped cabbage and light but creamy dressing however, I wanted just a bit more of the subtle flavor.
Absolutely wonderful friends night out at B&G oysters. The place always inspires me with its thoughtful and fresh array of seafood, choice wines and festive atmosphere. Definitely try the lobster blt. It’s our favorite. We enjoyed the swank seafood tower with a side of fries and it was plentiful and delicious.
the best place ever for oysters, always changing the variety, and the quality of flavors are excellent. They are shucked perfectly. The wine selection is unique and the servers help with descriptions to find a wine you will like.
Great Mother’s Day celebration!
For. 9:30 pm reservation for six we were seated at 10 pm. However they were so nice to forcefully sell us a bottle of wine while we waited standing outside! We didn’t know we were going to be standing there for half an hour. Once seated our service was very slow and the server kept missing things. We had to ask for utensils like spoons as we shared the food probably five times. For waiting half an hour there was no apology or attempt at comping anything. Food wise, underwhelmed by their choice of oysters, lobster roll was bad, and warm bread pudding Was just plain terrible. We tried more stuff but nothing worth mentioning.
The food is great, but the service was top notch. We made a reservation, but were not seated for almost 20 minutes afterward the start time. They were apologetic, kind, accommodating while we waited, and then gave us a few complimentary sides to turn a negative situation into a really nice one.
It was a perfect reunion with a friend from university.
The lemony roasted brussel sprouts were perfectly prepared and lemony without being too sour. The lobster roll was an extravagant treat and the squid was grilled to perfection.
Our only disappointment was the shrimp ceviche. Unusual prep would have been fine but we both found it to be too milky and not as satisfying as the rest of our meal.
I cut my teeth in the fine dining world as a Gramercy Tavern waiter in the mid to late 90s and I believe Barbara Lynch is Boston's Danny Meyer. No other Boston restaurants meet his standards for excellence in service and food flavor & quality.
I love the Meyers & Chang husband & wife team but their establishments are a different beast all together.
Thank you for a delightful meal!
New England clam chowder is not classic ;too salty and not creamy. Lobster bisque tasted good however.
Phenomenal as usual.
Great! Shared oysters & the chowder was amazing. Also had the crab & sweet potato salad which was really good!
B&G is an incredibly consistent, great experience. Service is fabulous, the oysters are always tasty and they have the best lobster roll in Boston. Two thumbs way up for B&G.
Love this lively local restaurant. Our food was excellent and the service was terrific. We'll be back!
We, 2 sisters had a reservation but were seated in a table which was less desirable than 2 different tables given to two couples who did not have a reservation. Should those with reservations not expect the bests tables before those without? I’m interested in opinions of others.
Phenomenal meal. Everything was excellent. One of the best Lobster rolls I have had. Lobster BLT was also excellent.
Food was fresh, tasty, well presented. Service was good- the restaurant has a very knowledgeable staff. Will be back for sure!
I love this place! Whenever I come to Boston I always pay a visit and gobble up a dozen oysters with a glass of Champagne and a glass of Muscadet! Brilliant!
Our servers were fantastic and super friendly. Had the Halibut and assortment of Oysters and both were delicious!
I originally had set a reservation for 7 PM on a Monday to celebrate my fiancées birthday, but I had to attend a wake unexpectedly and coupled with the rain and rush hour, wasn't able to make it until 8:30. B&G was extremely helpful the whole time and was ultimately willing to allow us to arrive when we could make it. I'm not sure if this is the case always, but it was a very kind gesture, and it's much appreciated.
So tough to get a reservation here, but it's worth it--if you love fish. It's always good, service is great, good wine list and generally charming atmosphere, with a true South End vibe. The patio out back is a bonus.
