b, A Bolton Hill Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We made early reservations for dinner on a Friday and had the restaurant to ourselves until 6:00. It was very pleasant atmosphere. I noted that there was no bar, thus no t.v. in the background and this contributed to a great atmosphere/ambiance.
The menu was simple and the meal of char and a selection of cheeses was delightful.
We began our experience with an unusually long wait for our food. We then had an issue where I let the server know that my wife didn't eat pork however he provided a breakfast with bacon on the plate. I am usually a satisfied customer as I've been to this restaurant at least five times. But it appeared that something was off this particular day. We noticed something off the time before but we overlooked it. We probably won't revisit this Bistro for some time.
We had a NYE reservation. It is a small place and There is nowhere to go if you are waiting for your table except outside. Fine in the summer but it was a little chilly and since the NYE crowd were lingering over their meals we walked down to the Mount Royal Tavern and got a drink, we had arrived about 10 minutes early. When we returned, our server was very attentive and the food was very good with a beautiful presentation. The only tiny complaint was that some of the food was not as hot as it should have been. But overall we were very happy with our meal and the evening and would recommend B Bistro
Took some friends for their first visit to B for Christmas cheer. They loved it. 1/2 priced wine on Tuesdays is hard to beat. I had steak tartar that was so fresh. Followed up with my regular of moules frites. Mushroom risotto was perfect. My friend enjoyed the fish and chips. Batter made with Natty Boh!
Excellent food on a Friday night. We enjoyed duck, braised short ribs, spaghetti and arctic char fish, along with caeser kale salad, and for dessert, an amazing key lime pie and pistachio ice cream sundae, along with creme brûlée. All wonderful. Wait staff was delightful, but could benefit from some more professional training. Also, the restaurant ran out of bread as they apparently did not anticipate the size of the crowd that night. But overall, a delightful evening.
We went on Sunday at 5:45 following Handel's Messiah at the BSO. A perfect finish to a wonderful date. The food, service, and ambiance were great. My wife had mushroom risotto which was fantastic. I had tuna tartare (sushi grade and delicious) and mussels. This has become one of our go to restaurants for almost any occasion. Keep it up!
b has been one of our favorites for many years and we have never been disappointed...Until Sunday. And that was a disaster. We were the first customers to arrive for Sunday brunch, promptly at 10am. We placed our orders (egg breakfast and French toast) before any other guests arrived. After 45 minutes, we wondered where our meal might be? A table of five got their meal and ours still had not arrived. Just as we were about to question the waiter, our food was delivered. My English muffin was delayed because as the hostess noted, "there is nothing worse than a cold English Muffin." Unfortunately, the French toast (without butter or syrup which we had to request), eggs, and bacon were ice cold. And the English muffin arrived 5 minutes later frozen in the middle. After an hour wait, we gave up. Something wasn't firing in their kitchen on Sunday. I suspect we will give them another try as this was not our usual experience there, but clearly a disappointment.
We booked here honestly because it was very near where we were staying and they had very good reviews. I personally was not that inspired by the menu choices but thought that they must be doing something right to have earned such accolades.
Everything that we ordered was well executed and presented. We also had a couple of really delicious wines. My family, who was visiting from out of the country, was especially thrilled with their experience and were still talking about it days later.
I had the mussels in a Thai curry sauce which was really lovely and finished with a really delicious creme brulee which I can never refuse.
The building in which the restaurant is situated is grand. Love the high ceiling and open space. It was our first time there despite living in Baltimore city since 2001. It was a clear neighborhood gem in Bolton Hill. Our server was new but was really pleasant and knew her stuff. She made the dinner very pleasant.
The only thing we didn't like is the eagerness to clear the table by the manager (Saturday night) when my husband just finished his starter. He was so surprised by her eagerness to swoop away the plate, his jaw was literally opened. As she took his plate, she picked up his used knife from the empty plate and put it on the table, assuming we are fine with that. I told her to take it away and he would like a clean one for the main course.
We tried to enjoy the rest of our dining experience at b-Bistro. Again, our actual server was EXCELLENT.
To the manager, clear the table when everyone is done, otherwise it seems you are rushing your potential returning guests away.
It was nice sitting outside under the heat lamp on a mild fall evening. We were warm, but would have liked better lighting at the table. The food was very good and the service was exceptional. I was happy to introduce b, my neighborhood restaurant, to my date for his first time there.
A new favorite! The perfect place for Sunday brunch with friends. Everyone's meal was great (try the challah french toast and the shrimp and grits) and the wait staff was amazing, attentive but not intrusive. The ambiance and the food encourage you to linger and to return for another great meal.
First time dining here...very tight seating arrangements...beet salad was good as a starter...crab cake platter was good (on the small side)...arctic char was very good...cheese menu is a nice touch...service was less than stellar...this seemed like a management issue as the server was simply thrown into the mix...had a billing error as well...overall its a decent place but just not sure about making the drive again for it :)
a few issues during our recent visit. they were "out of menus" when we arrived, hard to believe on a Saturday night they wouldn't have enough menus. totally messed up the bill - charging us incorrectly and then chasing us down the street as we were hurrying to make a performance at a local theater. once returned, couldn't find correct bill, and were having a hard time canceling prior charge.
disappointed on the service side, not "b's" usual level of service.
The restaurant was just opening & we were invited to sit and look at the menu. After saying we had to be finished at a certain time to attend an evening event, the service was prompt and efficient. We chose the 3 course pre-fixe dinners. The celery root soup, beer salad, bolognese, and Arctic char were delicious. The beer and wine were also excellent, Resurrection and red Bordeaux.
We will definitely return there.
We have been here multiple times and the food is always good. Foods are present to satisfy almost all diners wants and needs
There is not a full bar. That as never been an issue for us as there is an adequate selection of beer and wine by the glass and bottle
On this occasion every step of the service was excruciatingly slow from water glasses to dessert. The waitstaff though was quite pleasant. Maybe this was an off night and hopefully not a new norm
Upon entering the restaurant, one notices the small kitchen. Do not let this fool you, this small space produces some big miracles. We had dinner on a warm summer Friday evening at an inside table. I had the Duo Chicken and my partner had the Bolognese. The chicken breast was served with crispy skin - heavenly. The bolognese was absolutely delicious. For desert I had the Blondie with Salted Caramel ice cream, one of the best blondies I have ever tasted. Service throughout the meal was professional and on point, one very minor complaint - our waiter had a dour expression the whole time we were there.
We eat at this restaurant fairly often. Its one of our stand by casual places with interesting and usually excellent food selections. Sometimes the service has been a little slow or we have gotten a mixed up plate, for example. That's normal. This time, the service was so poor, our meal was ruined. We received the wrong wine, our appetizer was so long in coming that we asked 3 times for something to eat with our wine. Our waiter was clearly in need of training, but the restaurant should have backed him up. The hostess finally brought the cheese herself and said she was 'comping' an additional cheese choice because it had taken so long. Didn't matter - the tiny extra piece of cheese was hardly worth the long wait with wine and no food. We really needed bread or crackers. Even the cheese plate had only a couple of tiny crackers My dinner arrived, but my husband received the wrong entree, so I ate my alone. When his Bolognese came, he said it was so salty it was not edible, but he ate most of it because he was so hungry. He could have sent it back, but the whole experience was not what we were used to at Bolton. It will be hard to return.
