Another great evening at this restaurant. Although we usually opt for outdoor dining in a wonderful neighborhood setting, this night we ate inside because of some extra hot/humid weather. Service was awesome. Due to some allergies, etc., we needed some extra attention and we got all that we needed: thanks! We were all in the mood for some comforting food, and the chicken, the pasta, the crab cake, and the steak with fries all filled the bill. Chocolate bread pudding and a chocolate mousse filled hard chocolate cup were the desserts of choice ... both were tasty.
The crispy salmon was a hit: moist tender fish with a crispy skin and tiny vegetables as accompaniment. The chocolate bread pudding was delicious, even with those who don't like bread pudding. And we substituted salted caramel ice cream to go with it: yummy.
b is a lovely setting for Sunday brunch. The food and service are very good. The ceiling is very high gives a very open feeling where talking with others at the table can be easily heard without speaking loudly. Our servicer was smiling and cheerful.. I would definitely return.
The entire waitstaff were fantastic and the food was simply extraordinary. The brunch menu has something for everyone and the food arrived promptly. I would love to return for dinner sometime. Tuesdays are 1/2 price wine nights!
Food outstanding. Flavorful and succulent. Have been to many outstanding restaurants, but the cuisine at B was some of the best I've ever had. Will being going back.
Great food but very few options for non-fish eaters. Had to go for a small plate and it did end up being quite small and not filling.
Excellent. Perfect late summer and fall outdoor dining. Good portion sizes, with great choices for every course. I love the crab tomato starter and the pistachio sundae at the end. Can't lose with all the choices in between .
This was probably my 8th or 9th time at b. I am always so happy with the service and the food is always consistently fresh, interesting, and thoughtful. I'll continue to come back again and again.
My wife and I were in town and decided to take a chance on "b, A Bolton Hill Bistro" for our anniversary--what a find! This corner bistro was as inviting as the server we fortunately had. Her knowledge of wines and the night's fare were impressive, not to mention her wonderful personality. Our starters were an indication that an artist was in the kitchen. My lobster mac-n-cheese still makes my mouth water just thinking about it; my wife's beet salad transformed her into "I'll never eat beets" to "give me more". The entrees took things to the next level with seared scallops on hunter style grits and my wife's salmon was magnifiicent. Relaxing ambience, delicious food and wine, and caring wait staff made it memorable. Guaranteed Great!
I love b and over the years have had some excellent meals (though the bread had always been more like a cake). But in the past couple of years we have had a number of disappointments at b. Is the problem that we always seem to go on a Sunday night? Last Sunday we had crabcake, which was not Baltimore's best. Though fairly tasty, the crabcake had a flat and oddly unbumpy surface. Had it been cooked twice? The succotash corn was days old. The salmon was overcooked. The caprese salad had too much balsamic vinegar, and the basil was essentially nonexistent. I couldn't tell if the house-made mozzarella was not very tasty or overwhelmed by vinegar. This is still a great place in so many ways! Let's bring back the excellent food.
Food here has that extra special something that makes it standout, plus it leaves the attitude behind. Six of us, something different for all. Lobster mac: perfect, great cheesy flavor, a bit of pluck, tasty not heavy (for m&c) and I compare this to m&c in LA and Vegas. Virginia oysters on the half: outstanding--picked right and not messed with. Made special by a vinegary spicy light dip. The standard dipping olive oil also one-upped others: learned it was a mix of all good italian spices and fennel. My expectations for the crab fettucini were very low as crab is such a delicate taste: wonderful, light as if the pasta had been infused with crab. Salmon: a standout--perfectly cooked but, again, a unique glaze so nothing ordinary there.
My husband and I wanted to try out "B" for sometime and decided to go during Baltimore restaurant week. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and will be back!
Disappointed during our last visit. Usually food is good, but my oyster app was almost inedible due to so many shells in the batter. My friend's duck entree was almost laughably tiny. Service was very slow. Dessert were really good though.
I usually don't participate in restaurant week, but a friend wanted to go. There isn't any waiting area or a bar, which is a little inconvenient if you aren't seated immediately. The outside patio was really nice. The food was good, but not great. I can't imagine spending full price there, but $30 for a 3-course meal was an OK value. The portions were pretty small, but I expected that for restaurant week. Our server was very nice, but the overall experience felt unorganized. We weren't greeted for a few minutes, had to wait 20 minutes for a table to be available even though we had a reservation, and the silverware was set after we got our first course. Understandable for a busy night.
I have always loved b.....and it has just been so hit or miss the past year!
Went for restaurant week and felt that the food was very lacking.....had the chicken and the whole plate was just steeped in salt....and the presentation was NOT attractive....I had an out-of-towner with me and was taking her to one of my "favorite restaurants" but the meal just did not live up to it.
The service was also very short and not attentive and like obviously just revolving us in and out the door.
Oh - and the air conditioning was busted.
I understand that restaurants still need to make a buck during restaurant week --- but either don't do it or don't fail your long-time fans.....
Loved sitting outside- very picturesque setting. Great food and atmosphere. Servers allow you time to relax which was nice.
Restaurant week special 3 course meal was one of the best in the city. Tempting choices in each category which made it difficult to settle on one in each category. Hot dishes were hot, cold cold, service was excellent and we came away, as always, feeling content and satisfied. The bistro is consistently good in both food and service and a real credit to the city and the Bolton Hill neighborhood.
We are so fortunate to have it in our midst.
We had absolutely delicious meals during restaurant week, and the staff was wonderful. We were having such a nice time that we stayed much longer than our meal, and there was never any pressure to leave. Baltimore needs more restaurants like b!
My wife and I dined at B, a Bolton Hill Bistro during Restaurant Week and were very pleased with the food, service, and the outdoor seating. We were lucky to have perfect weather as we ate outside. The portions were the perfect size to finish feeling satisfied, but delicious enough to still want more. The pistachio ice cream sundae was awesome as were the salmon, fried oysters, and shrimp and grits. We will definitely be back.
"B" is one of our favorites and we go for just about every special occasion we have as a couple. This last visit was restaurant week and we got the duck (as usual). The portion was much smaller than usual. I'm going to guess that each plate was a half a breast or less. The sides were a small handful of peas and few small carrots. We were so hungry that we had to order another entree to split (the fettuccine which was a better size and excellent). I still recommend the duck breast here but I'm a girl that likes to eat so I'd like to see them step it up next time.
Went to b on 7/27 during restaurant week. Food was disappointing. Hopefully, the chef and owner can get this bistro back on track.
Sat outside on a beautiful evening. Scallop BLT appetizer was to die for!
Baltimore is so fortunate to have this fine bistro tucked into a residential neighborhood and cater to folks who enjoy a pleasant ambiance and deliciously prepared food. Service it attentive and gracious. It is always a pleasure.
When I arrived, limping badly from a sprained ankle, I was left waiting at the door for quite some time. There were many open tables. I was then offered a tiny table and when I said I thought I'd have a bit of trouble navigating into the space, I was left standing again. After a bit longer, I was offered a central table; when I asked if we could have a quieter side table, I was told it was reserved for 'someone important'. Can you imagine?
The server was absolutely lovely, gracious, and very knowledgable. The food was delicious.
But, I do believe there are good servers and delicious food in places where one is treated with kindness.
I've gone to Bolton Hill Bistro for dinner at least 6 times and have always had an excellent meal.
The entrees were quite good. We gave high marks for the soft shell crab, the crab cake dinner, and the salmon.
First, according to the menu provided it was chef's special under $20 entree night. However, that was a bit of a misnomer. The entree I ordered was just an appetizer, for the regular menu price. In my book, that's not a "special".
Second, it was hot. I don't know if the A/C was broken, but it was uncomfortable.
Those two could be forgiven, however, if it wasn't for our service. He never told us the specials, took 15 minutes to take drink orders, and on it went, capped off by a 20 minute wait for the check (which another server brought).
In took over two hours to eat a 2 course meal.
This meal was disappointing. It happens. I'll eventually go back, but at a neighborhood bistro with $30+ entrees, I expect much better service.
One dish was excellent, salads were very nice, salmon was under-cooked.
A Paris neighborhood Bistro in Baltimore's Bolton Hill.
Have heard and read many great things about this restaurant but never made the effort to visit. What I found out was I've been waiting a lot of quality dining time by not going. Small space inside, probably seats 60 and maybe 20 more outside. From start to finish it was wonderful. Not a big menu but nice mix and if you're watching your diet the chef will accommodate your needs without hesitation. The organic salmon is to die for as we're the scallops w/ grits and soft crab special. Will return very shortly. It's our new favorite place. At least new to us.
This was our 4th visit over the course of about 1 1/2 years. The food is consistently excellent and a twist on classic dishes given that it's a Bistro. The only negatives each time are that sometimes service lags because its so busy and the spaces are crowded. Would recommend this place to anyone: families, couples , group events.
Another very solid meal. Always enjoy the b. Great burgers!
several families with children who looked like they walked from home. too hot to sit outside, but have in the past. it's very pleasant.
Very bright and airy space. Menu has a modest number of items but all were appealing. A limited number of great choices is better than a voluminous menu with too much to consider. Our server and her back-up were very cheerful and attentive.
Great service real local gem. Food was delicious and good price point.
Patio full of locals who were great to us and ended up having such an enjoying night we went back the next night.
6 people including one 13 year old all loved it.
This is one of our favs, especially to sit outside in summer. Salads, shrimp and grits, crabcake, roast chicken were all top notch, and the pear tart was wonderful. One sour note - the vegetarian enchiladas were dry - no sauce, no cheese, just a bunch of black beans in a thick tortilla that was more like pastry which added to the dryness.
The black cod on risotto special was one of the top fish dishes I've ever had .... and I order fish regularly when dining out! My dining companions also loved their meals. My chocolate encased chocolate mousse (Carillo purse) was a real treat, too.
We love you, B Bistro -
Even when you had some kitchen changes and things were getting a little uneven. Now you are back in full swing. We can TELL. And we love it! You will always be one of the most pleasant places for us to enjoy a meal with out-of-towners or dear Baltimore friends.
Always get a phone call back. Always get help with reservations. Always get treated with respect and warmth. Sometimes servers can feel a bit moody and/or overly-casual and unprofessional but even with THAT said ----- we LOVE YOU!
Thanks again for a wonderful dining experience. This was my third or fourth visit. I was so impressed with my dining experience that each visit afterward I would introduce a friend to B, A Bolton Hill Café. Each friend has walked away also with a wonderful experience, loving the place and wanting to return and wanting to share it with others.
great meal as always. Service was great
What a find. Highly recommend. Ate at Woodberry Kitchen the following night and while a also a great experience, I think they are trying to serve too many with a kitchen their size. b Bistro was great from start to finish. Food was flavorful, service was just right, priced appropriately for the high level of cuisine.
Definitely coming back
