Azzurro Ratings and Reviews
Was very disappointed this time,. We went to have a Christmas lunch and there was only one waiter for the entire dining room. Service was slow and not very accomodating. Our hot tea was not hot, he seems rushed and unwilling to repeat the specials when there was a elderly person at the table that was hard of hearing. This was not the usual special attention that we are given and service was very slow.
Was a busy night as usual. Noise level was so high that the four of us could barely hear each other. Service was extremely slow. Took 20-30 min just to get our drinks. Three of our four entries were served 5 minutes before the fourth so while politely waiting to eat-our food was cold. Same old menu that they have had for years--would like to see something new. MISS WES-he new how to run the show.
It was our date night dinner and the food was absolutely delicious and we looked forward to our leftovers the next day. But our waiter for evening was absolutely horrible which ruined the night for us. I think he had larger groups to take care of that night and never returned except to deliver the check. Someone from the kitchen delivered our food and drinks. I told my husband that we could check off our list of restaurants to go to because of the horrible service.
Quite disappointed in this visit to Azzurro as my OpenTable reservations were on file, yet the hostess scrambled to determine where to seat our table of 2. Service was mediocre and the food was overpriced. The pinot noir was rancid and lack luster. This was my 8th visit here and yet still I would not recommend.
All food courses were outstanding. Service was very, very good — very accomplished waiter, but even busboys were good. Restaurant was very crowded (which is good, we’ve been coming here for a long time) and makes for a very high noise level. One thing I would change is something to dampen the volume (don’t know what that is).
Azzurro has long had a reputation as one of the classiest restaurants in Richmond but maybe there’s been a change in management? Because, over 4 visits in recent months, the food preparation, presentation, and service seems to be slipping. Wood fired pizza is soggy in the center. Caesar salad is bagged romaine, bottle dressing, and pre-shredded parmesan. Entree items ordered do not match items delivered. Service is either indifferent or overly familiar. Not at these prices and, more to Azzurro’s brand, not in this part of town. Please pull it together, people!
The location is unbeatable. The ambiance is wonderful but the menu is old and tired. They haven’t updated in a very long while. No LOCAL food sources, no special branching out for food experiences. I’ve seen the traffic dwindle to a trickle in the last two years. With a little oomph they could nail,it- especially the lunch crowd...
And the music is bad also... sounds like a beer joint.
Love to go to Azurro but we were 6 people seated at an 8 top and we could not hear any conversation except with the person next to us.
If you go to dinner with 6 people, you want to chat with more than one person if you ate there for 2 hours.
We were way too spread out.
Hostess at first refused to seat our group outside, said reservations couldn't be made for outside dining. Said was first come first serve, even though seating was available outside, initially tried to force us inside. We had clearly stated on our Open Table reservation requesting outside dining. Finally agreed to seat us outside, after preparing to take our group to another restaurant. Hostess then placed our group at the worst possible location outside walking us past more desirable seating.
Restaurant Manager attempted to seat us at the preferred location after checking our Open Table request, however the hostess sat another group that arrived after us at that location. Whatever the problem, miscommunication, misunderstanding, etc. the Manager did a terrific job of making our dining experience a great one. Our waiter and busboy were very attentive, the food was fantastic, the restaurant even created a specialty pizza for us. Highly recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable dining experience, whether dining inside, or outside, but confirm reservation to avoid confusion or embarrassment. Thank you to the Manager on duty Saturday night August 26 for a super evening.
