Azzurro’s is the absolute best fine dining in Richmond. We dine there several times a year and also on special occasions. The Chef is creative, everything that he creates is delicious!
Food was ok but the server / waitress was not attentive and if we weren’t with friends I would have been more vocal about it.
I have traveled all over the world and eaten at some very fine restaurants and by far this was the worst experience in all my 54 years!!!
Stay away from this restaurant !!
Service was not only horribly slow but the waiter was extremely rude.
I had never filed a complaint over any dining experience until this . The manager acted like he didn’t care either !!
Would never go back!!
I ordered one of the specials which was a trio of salmon, rockfish and snapper. The fish was grilled there was absolutely no seasoning or sauce which made the fish taste very bland. The green beans were over cooked and just the presentation of the dish was lacking. The dish was not worth the money spent for it. Very disappointed!
Terrific place both in food and service. Can't wait to go back.
We had yet another very good lunch at Azzurro. One of our favorites.
Fresh, simple ingredients, outstanding service.
First timing dining at Azzurro’s. It is a lively, somewhat noisy atmosphere. The service was very good. We all enjoyed our entrees, except for the rockfish fillet special that was under seasoned and had a few scales. Still enjoyable and would go back.
Would have rated the food higher but 2 of our 4 were a bit underwhelmed by their meals. Our waiter was very attentive particularly for the full Friday night restaurant and was consistently in good spirits. He brought no baggage from other tables to ours. It is quite a loud restaurant on the inside (where we dined), but every so often we enjoy the electric atmosphere! We loved being able to make a same day reservation on OpenTable at a restaurant we know to be a highly sought after weekend dining experience.
As always, the whole experience was great but in particular the first class service!
From start to finish, good service and great food. Staff is attentive.
I had a GF Verdura pizza, it was excellent, very good GF crust. I would return for this.
My husband had the risotto shrimp special with asparagus. Nothing special about it, shrimp ok, one asparagus tip and the remainder thick stems, and the plate looked bland and was not “special”.
The tiramisu was good.
Pleasant host and server. Nice little touch at the table to acknowledge my husband’s birthday!
We hadn't been there for a few years because we live fairly far away, but we were reminded again of how good the food is, so we will make the trip more often. We had the spinach salad to start, followed by the rockfish piccata entree which was the special that day. Both were well-prepared and fresh. The portions are generous enough to share or to save for lunch the next day. The area around the bar is a bit loud, but the back dining area is much quieter. We did not have difficulty having a conversation. The wait staff were attentive and helpful, and they seemed genuinely happy to be there. There were actually enough staff working so that they were not frenzied and overworked like so many other places are these days.
My fiancé and I went here for date night and the food and service were fantastic! After ordering our entree's we needed to rush out for a dog emergency and the staff was so kind., They got our food to us super quick and they were so nice and understanding.
We ate our meals later that night and even after they had cooled off they were fantastic! We will be back :)
Always enjoy dining at Azzurro. Great place to eat, drink and run into old friends.
Consistently awesome food, great service, friendly, perfect timing!
very attentive staff, prompt, knowledgeable, delicious appetizers, well presented entrees. Only disappointment was the veal dish. Beautifully presented but very dry not tender and almost impossible to cut. the desserts were delicious. Ambiance is charming.
Service was great! food was good! however Need to update online menu as actual restaurant menu prices were 20 to 30% higher than online menu!
A friend had long told me of the place. So glad i finally got to try it. Had the best birthday! So happy to find a proper restaurant! Loved the table settings!
Second time we have visited Azurro. Both meals have been very good and always good service. The restaurant is hidden, somewhat, in a small shopping center and somewhat small. It was very busy both times we have visited and been an enjoyable evening both time.
The wait staff was attentive and efficient. The food was fabulous!
Never a disappointment! Regardless of the extensive and authentic menu of Italian delicacies, we tend to go with the evening "special". This week it was the veal marsala. So many chefs will tend toward using thickener making the marsala sauce more of a gravy. Not here. The marsala reduction was perfect. And, as always (and at our request), we had Brad as our server. One cannot say enough about his service excellence and his always "spot-on" selection of a nice Italian red (this time he selected a nice Amarone) to compliment our meal.
A favorite of mine when I want Italian and not the same Italian as everyone else. Although they do that well, too, they offer some terrific specials. Everything that I have ever had here has been terrific. The outdoor dining is lovely in better weather, too. Nice that they have that option.
Azzurro is a restaurant I can always count on - good food, sophisticated atmosphere, good service, friendly staff, great location and easy parking!
One of my Richmond favorites for more than 20 years. Always consistently delivers wonderful Italian cuisine!
Where else can one dine on linen with a wood fired pizza.
I’ve been here many times before and this was by far my worst!
I’ve talked to my wife about Azzurro’s each time, so she wanted to go their for our Valentine meal..
What a mistake!
We had a very tiny table for two that I kept hitting my knee on! And we hardly had room for our meal, bread and wine glasses to fit on!!
This table was in front of a very noisy and loud bar, it was located near the front door where each time the door opened you felt a breeze!
This was far from the experience I wanted to have with my wife on valentines, I truly wish we shared this romantic day in another establishment.
great food, but we waited 3o min. beyond the time of our dinner reservation
We chose to try this restaurant for a nice dinner date before seeing the Richmond Symphony Orchestra for the first time and it did not disappoint. The wine, the bread, the entrees, and the service were all outstanding! Would definitely love to return!
Great dinner at Azurro! I would recommend this restaurant to University of Richmond students when their parents come to town. Great date night spot also.
THe location of the restaurant is good with easy parking. The decor is pleasing. Service was very good an food was excellent. Only problem was the level of noise was almost intolerable. I would urge the owners to find a way to reduce the noise, perhaps by putting large groups in one area while reserving a section for quiet dining.
Always a good feeling when arriving at Azzurros for a dining experience. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Food and service are never a dissappointment. We appreciate the willingness of the staff to customize dishes where needed.
We Love Azzurro! They are consistently good! Service, menu, bar, ambiance and location make it one of our favorite places to dine!
Needed to request a change of tables --- first one was too near the wall and we could not sit comfortably. Second was directly under the air conditioning and was too cold. Service was slow, noise level was too high. They are crowding too many tables in a too small space. Food was good, bread needed to be sliced, lack of attention from waiter, etc. Generally okay, but could stand some improvement.
This used to be so much better. They were severely understaffed leaving most of the dining room worked by one server. She was certainly doing the best she could but it was an impossible expectation. Perhaps the restaurant is trying to save on labor costs since it was indicated by other staff that she had that heavy of a load every night. That certainly did not wreck the experience however the very mediocre food preparation and presentation certainly did.
We will not go back.
Great as is always the case. Two glitches: lost order and dessert of choice wasn’t thawed out! Order was expedited and didn’t need dessert anyway. Server was excellent.
We’ve been to Azzurro and enjoyed it, but it has not made it into our rotation for regular dining. A gift card we had from Christmas put it back on our radar. Our experience was a mixed bag.
We had a nice table and were greeted promptly. We ordered cocktails, which were properly prepared. However, I discovered that the bourbon I ordered wasn’t what I was served. I suspected something was amiss with my drink, but chalked it up to variations in how the drink can be made. I should have asked.
Our food was good, but not great. Both our pasta dishes were prepared with fresh ingredients, but were unremarkable. Generous portion sizes ensured we had lunch the next day.
Our experience was marred by sub-par service for a restaurant of this caliber and price point. We never learned our server’s name. I asked for a wine list when our entrees arrived but he never returned so I could order a glass. A table next to us was told specials we didn’t hear about.
We left full, having had drinks, an appetizer and entrees in the course of an hour. What was intended to be a nice date night out ended up being a rather mediocre experience.
The food and the service was outstanding!!
I enjoyed everything about the restaurant.
I look forward to going back!!
