Azurea at One Ocean Ratings and Reviews
The noise level is very high. The meal was mixed, the tomato salad was not very good as the tomatoes were not ripe and hard. The rest of the meal was very good. However my credit card was charged 3 times and I have yet to receive a call back from the manager.
Excellent service and really good food on NYE 2017-2018. I flagged my difficult allergies with the restaurant during booking and all waiters were prepared and organised my pairing menu accordingly. My group of 4 enjoyed the food and wine and promptness of service all night. I highly recommend this place. Beautiful decor too.
We expected much more based on the reviews we had read. The food was average and overpriced in our opinion.
The service was worse-slow and several mistakes in parts of our orders eventhough it was not a busy night when we were there. We had a group of 7 and the concerns very universal after a 3 hour prolonged experience with only one round of drinks in a group with several seniors.
Even worse, we were charged a mandatory gratuity for this size group although we were not told this when we made the reservation and it does not say this anywhere on the menu. The tip charge was 22% which is perhaps why our waiter was disengaged.
Afraid we will not hurry back.
A number of people in our birthday group enjoy choosing Azurea for their b'day luncheon. At this particular luncheon one in the group could not eat the soggy flatbread. I took my brisket and potato salad home so I could rinse off most of the salty/vinegary dressing on the potatoes and mix in Greek yogurt and wipe off most of the sauce off the beef.
We were all surprised to see that the added tip was 22%! Some in the group have already secretly opted out when One Ocean is chosen. I must now agree.
Azurea is usually over-the-top special, but this time they really missed the mark. My advice is don't go during the holidays if you are not in a party as the staff is stretched too thin. We went for over 25 minutes with our first course empty plates sitting in front of us and no sign of our waitress. Not that it's a big deal to pour my own champagne, but for the restaurant mark-up I feel like I'm paying for that service. I marked only good for the food this time as I ordered the Bouillabaisse, wanting some nice broth with my seafood. Theirs should be called porridge as it has so much cous cous it is not even served with a spoon. Very disappointing, but my Veuve Cliquot was delicious and the moon rising over the Ocean was lovely.
Honestly, we were disappointed with the food. The amuse bouch was drowning in sauce and one dimensional in flavor, not to mention soggy since it was obvious the wonton wrapper had sat in the sauce for some time. I got the James Beard nominated entree but it arrived terribly overcooked and didn't boast any unique flavors that made it memorable either. They didn't have the only dessert I wanted that was listed on the menu but made up for it by comping us for a substitute. The service was perfection and atmosphere was beautiful. I just think this is a place that gets a lot of business from people who don't really know what good food actually tastes like because they're too focused on getting their money's worth with dishes that are overdone and too heavy compared to fresh and refined. I honestly can't recommend this at all, especially considering the exceptionally high prices charged for what you get on the plate.
We were worried that the restaurant would not be open during the first night of our trip. It reopened at 6 pm on first night at One Ocean. Which so happened to be our 21st wedding anniversary. Azurea welcomed us with a card signed by the staff. Our server Hannah remembered us from our first visit August 2016. There is a review for that first dining experience also. We started with the Ceasar salad and Mayport bbq shrimp and grits. The salad is a work of art and delicious. The shrimp and grits were bit different from other shrimp and grits I had before. The grits were smooth and shrimp bbq was amazing. My wife had the Char for her entree she wanted the Salmon but that was not available. Hannah recommended the Char instead not as fatty as the Salmon. She was right it was simply delicious with spinach. I had the Sea Bass which I had before. I love the way the chef cooks the Sea Bass (Perfect) not dry or hard. I truly recommend Azurea especially now the kitchen as completed renovations the chef will probably go to another level. Ask for Hannah, she is professional, and knowledgeable on the wine list and the menu.
My experience as Azurea can only be described as mind-blowing. I was taken here by my fiancée for my birthday. I knew it was a luxury restaurant but this was a step above any other “luxury” offerings I’ve enjoyed yet in the Jacksonville area. The service experience made me feel like a foreign dignitary! The servers and waiting staff were so professional and paid such careful attention to detail, checking in just at the right moments.
The appetizers and entrees were perfect. I happen to LOVE Italian, so one standout was Chef Jay Mendoza’s Eggplant Meatballs. The Marinara sauce rivaled any number of standout East Coast Italian joints from Miami to NYC. This dish was so succulent and creative – just perfection on a plate!
The entire crew also came out to sing me happy birthday and deliver a colossal chocolate birthday cake with edible pearls, so huge and finely crafted it resembled the Leaning Tower of Pisa! It was opulent and left me speechless.
Overall it was beyond fantastic! I highly recommend One Ocean for a truly special experience for any special occasion -AS
This was our 2nd time to Azurea, our first was in June 2017. The server remembered us as one in our party had a number of food allergies. We had 6 people in our party this time. The server was very professional in handling the allergies issue for 4 of our 6 people and discrete. All the food was fabulous in taste and presentation. With significant deviations from the menu description the food was very flavorful and cooked to everyone's satisfaction. The pace of the meal was relaxed from the chef's appetizer to desert and coffee. We will come here every time we are in Florida.
We got together for "ladies' lunch" to celebrate our birthdays, which are two weeks apart. The food was delicious, the ambiance was very pleasant, and the server was friendly and efficient. I can definitely recommend Ocean One Azurea for a special lunch outing!
We had high expectations due to the previous reviews but we left feeling that we could not recommend this restaurant with the same ratings as others had given. The service was very good; the server was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good from the dips/spreads to the salad to the entree (we skipped dessert). But was most annoying was the noise level. The restaurant opens up to the nearby bar area and that noise just floods the entire dining room as they don't have any sound barriers in place to muffle the sound. So, instead of a nice quiet meal to celebrate our special occasion, we were left to almost shout to be heard and had to ask the server to repeat herself several times. Too bad because the rest of the experience was really good.
My dinner at Azurea at Ocean One was truly amazing from start to finish. The location, view and décor are fun and inviting. The service is top notch. The meal choices and variety of preparations make it nearly impossible to decide on an entrée because some variation and unique feature about each draws you in and makes you want to try it. I would go back over and over to try different items on the menu. I normally do not like bread with a meal and their bread course is even fun and delicious. I recommend dining with someone who will share so you can try as many of the menu items as you can. I found each appetizer and entrée that I was able to try to be prepared perfectly and the flavor combinations were exceptional!!!
Fantastic customer service, amazing ambiance, fantastic menu and views that are spectacular.
Celebrated our anniversary here. Fantastic selection, the drinks were great the wine list was extensive and the menu was exotic but not too crazy. The only negative I have from this wonderful evening was the overcooked wagyu ribeye. Somehow the chef mistook medium-rare for medium well. The meat was still so tender it was easy to eat but disappointed. Wife loved the choice and it was a beautiful evening.
As we had invited friends from the Netherlands, we were a party of 4.
We started with Burrata & Heirloom Tomato, and Crab Cakes. So far so good.
-X2 Sampling of Fresh Catch @ $28
Actually, the fish was kind of hidden by a huge amount of mashed potatoes.
-X1 Coriander Dusted Sea Bass @ $38
According to the menu, it should have been served with Maine Lobster. If it was there, it was invisible. Again, it may have been replaced by a ton of mashed potatoes.
-X1 First Coast Bouillabaisse @ $40.
Yes, I found a so called Maine Lobster but it was obviously a dwarf, hardly bigger than one of our First Coast shrimps. Moreover it was looking strange, distorted, like shrunk.
What about the calamari? There was one, tasting like rubber, undercooked, almost raw.
Overall, this can be called a mediocre dinner. I don’t know if the chef was out, or if he’s become a simple cook, but he served nothing to be proud of.
What about the wine? We had a French white wine. Our waitress immediately filled a max in our four glasses and her job was done!!! She does not know that white wine should be served chilled, in small glasses to refill and kept in a cooler.
Other than that, we were seated near a double door opening on the patio. It was a very windy day, and people kept opening the doors and going back and forth. Each time the door was opened, we almost had to buckle to keep seated. We asked our waitress to lock the door (there was another available door with nobody around) and it was done only near the end of our dinner.
As a conclusion, this has become a mediocre restaurant, hardly deserving 2 stars.
It was very embarrassing to invite foreign people to this place.
It is for me a huge disappointment because I had eaten there several times in the past, and always been happy.
I will never set foot again at Azurea.
Our meal at Azurea was one of the best experiences EVER! The food is world class and the service phenomena! The menu is so diverse that it was had to make a choice. The presentation of each course was beautiful and the food was delicious. If you are traveling in the Jacksonville, FL area this restaurant is a must!
Our family group of 6 chose Azure for my Mom’s 80th birthday dinner. I requested a table ina quiet area, but that request was not honored, perhaps because there is no quiet section of the restaurant. The hostess asked who’s birthday it was & my husband gestured to my Mom & said, “my mother in law”. She then promptly wished my mom a “happy birthday, sir”. Huh? The server was friendly, but service was very slow. Our reservation was for 6:30pm, we were seated at 6:40pm, but did not get our water until 7:05pm with our drink order a bit after that. Most of the food was good, and the squash soup was excellent. However, both my brother & husband ordered the wild boar, and both found the meat to be very tough. My husband sent his back to be cookeda bit more, and was then able to chew the meat. My brother likes his meat medium to medium rare & simply couldn’t eat his. No apology was made, no offer to substitute the entee. For the price & reputation of the restaurant, I was extremely disappointed. I was and still am embarrassed by my choice of restaurant for the occasion. We will not return.
The cuisine is outstanding. We had the grilled shrimp appetizer, and ahi tuna appetizer, and both were prepared beautifully, and tasted delicious. The Alaskan Halibut was good, but the special preparation of the catch of the day which was very moderately priced was superb. I would highly recommend this for a special occasion or a gathering of good friends. The views are of the ocean. There is not a bad seat in the house. We found the service to be excellent.
The wifey and I ate here for our 26th anniversary and I couldn't be happier with that decision. We went on a Thursday so there was no crowd, our table (complete with a bouquet of roses) was waiting on us. From the hostess to our server Anita, the service provided was exquisite. My wife had a Hawaiian style sea bass and I had the filet mignmignon pon. Both were cooked and presented perfectly. At the end of the meal, Anita came out with complementary desserts. While this may not sound like much, she had paid attention to our conversation earlier, knew I was diabetic and brought me a bowl of fresh fruit whilst bringing my lovely bride a key lime pie. Each had a small chocolate candy banner with "happy anniversary" in gold letters. My wife loved the pie, I loved the fruit but the attention to detail by Anita really separated this dinning experience from others.
We were very excited for a sunset dinner to celebrate a special occasion at Azurea. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no staff at the front to direct us to the restaurant, and no signs. We ended up walking around the hotel and had to call the restaurant. Once we sat down, a waitress pressured us to order more items and a wine than we liked to. I ordered a seafood risotto and was unable to eat much of it as I started to feel ill. I asked her to box up what was about 3/4 left of the 40$ entree. She forgot and it was thrown out. The coffee I ordered was frigid so she brought another and offered us 6 chocolates instead of the regular 3 as an apology. This was after we waited almost 25 minutes for a new cup she said would take 4 minutes. She offered to bring us some more complimentary chocolates for her entree mistake. Luckily, I did not take this home because I spent the evening in the restroom. My significant other did not become ill, but stated his entree was severely overpriced and the fish was not cooked well. The dinner took over two and a half hours with long waits for entrees. We ended up spending a great deal of money for very little value. Would not return.
